Please?

to me it means don't expect a huge surprise in the end that'll blow everyone's minds

got it

btw, I'd like to discuss about this "Partner showcase" in a fair manner, but I'm not sure it's possible on the web LOL

Everyone forgetting that Nate and some other guy I forget both saying with the info they had they would be surprised if it’s a mini…aka they were probably aware of multiple big 3rd party announcements. Forget nintendoomed posting and bring back the hype
Nate said it would be a solid show based on what he had heard. I know people mostly are interested in first party stuff but I'm guessing there will be some decent announcements here.

Considering the length of the Direct this had to be all the planned 3rd party showings for the e3 , 25min is around what 3rd parties get during regular directs

Not sure what the big deal is?

Nothing wrong with having a direct focused on their party partners. How is this 2020? We already know most of their roadmap this year and we have some big games with Xenoblade, Splatoon, and Pokémon.

I feel Nintendo fans biggest enemy are themselves lol
I want to see more Splatoon. And Fire Emblem 17 (which probably lost any chance it had of releasing this year). I don't care about 3rd party

Well, let's see what's in it, at least.

Fixed, to make it a bit more suitable to my desires. Plus, I don't see any other RE game announcements when Capcom's got a pretty full slate on that front, at the moment.

I will gladly accept either a new Mega Man of some sort, or a Battle Network Collection

Hoping for Persona to finally be definitely deconfirmed on Switch by zero ATLUS presence in this show so that we can hopefully move forward from begging.

I didn't get upset with insiders, though. What are you talking about?

If it's the one post where I said "if you're gonna blame someone..." that was referring to another poster saying that the only reason people might have expected a Direct was themselves. Just stating the simple fact that we wouldn't have expected a Direct in this specific week had insiders not mentioned it. It wasn't an indictment of them; they have the information they have and it's not their fault if said information can lead to heightened expectations. I mean, why shoot the messenger?

And, yeah, the curmudgeon thing is a joke lol. I mean, I made a whole-ass bingo competition due to the hope of this being a full, proper Direct. I actually do think that there's a possibility of something really big coming soon as well. It's not serious.
very well then

I encourage you to enjoy the journey over the destination. With our contemporary insider culture, that's all that you can consistently get out of following all this.

(Even though @NateDrake literally said "it's a Direct Partner mini" last week, kudos to him)

I would love to hear Nate’s take. A while back he seemed more optimistic for a general. I wonder what he heard wouldn’t be hear to make him realize it was closer to a Partners.

Were they first party games? Because those could be saved for another direct

Being a bit more serious, sucks that it isn't a normal direct, but I'm not too bumbed, since I love the third party support on Switch.

I'm hoping against hope that we will see a new Megaman X game here, but I know its a pipedream.

I am also guessing that we won't see Bayo and Mario + Rabbids 2 here given that its second party? Guess we will see tomorrow.

But yeah, sucks that its a mini partner direct, but I'm looking forward all the same.

I am feeling insanely vindicated right now, even if I eventually conceded to the general mini camp
People were so against this idea, being dismissive and even rude for the mere idea of it being branded a Partner Direct. Heck, some people were going crazy against the idea that it's possible that there will be no "E3" Direct. Yet here we are!

In some ways I feel vindicated as well, since I voted a while back in the Direct thread that we'd get a Direct in early July.

I hope this will mark the end of people being so against scepticism and stop using "patterns" as proof. Nintendo does what Nintendo wants.

That said, I'm still excited for tomorrow's Direct. I feel we don't need a general one soon. Summer is stacked, third parties may have some new announcements. Nintendo can wait with announcing Autumn and later releases. September/October might be a good time for another Direct.

25 minutes of third party games isn't so bad, though I do find it a bit surprising that they'd do this. How many Nintendo games are dated for the rest of the year? Xenoblade, Pokemon, and Splatoon? I thought they'd want to date some of those fall games asap. I can't imagine they'll wait until September to do that, but this also makes it feel unlikely to me that we'll see any other big releases this year. I hope Bayonetta 3 is still on track for 2022.

Hope we see some new JRPGs tomorrow, at any rate. Is it too early for an Octopath 2 announcement?

There won't be any first-party event before Xenoblade 3 comes out. So we're talking about August at the earliest... And that's probably the timeframe for a Splatoon Direct. If they decide to do a Splatoon Direct, then the next general Direct will be... in September, as usual.

I don't see what the big deal is whether or not this is livestreamed; all Directs are pre-recorded anyway so who cares.
We're about to find out how much weeb can be crammed into 25 minutes.

And I am here for it.

Seriously, Sega, Capcom, Square-Enix, and Atlus don't let me down.
We're going to drown in the weebiness and people will be so pissed. I'm going to love just on those reactions alone.

What I could see them doing for the rest of the year
  • Partners Direct (Silksong, Maybe Mario Rabbids, maybe Bayonetta)
  • Mario Movie Trailer
  • Mariokart Wave 2
  • Splatoon Direct
  • Pokemon Presents
  • September Direct with Switch Sports Update / maybe Metroid Prime Remaster / maybe the rumored Fire Emblem Game / Zelda BOTW 2 and if the stars are right a teaser for Metroid Prime 4
  • maybe Zelda Direct
  • Indie World
  • Mariokart Wave 3

There is when historically they have used this time to show off new first party games. And lets be honest, it is dissapointing to know that we wont see zelda for another 2-3 months at the earliest. People are allowed to feel dissappointed by this. Its great that you are not, but let people feel how they feel.

There's zero chance we have to wait until September for any further first-party news. Not trying to be pessimistic, but we already saw Nintendo use trailer drops to date Splatoon 3 and Xenoblade Chronicles 3. They could go down the same route for Bayonetta 3 and Advance Wars. A 1-2 Switch sequel is potentially the kind of thing that gets announced outside a Direct anyway. NSO updates and Kart DLC can also easily be trailer drops.

Equally, you could end up with a regular Mini by the middle of July which collects that news and announces something like Prime HD. It's just difficult to fathom why they brought back such a reviled branding. Maybe they want to promote third party games more regularly (they do get paid to feature them in Directs) but they don't want to have to include their first-party stuff. Maybe they're experimenting with how they can drive engagement. Again, I'm interested to see what Grubb says about this.

Obviously I would have preferred a full direct but I see why this may have happened. Nintendo has a relatively high number of games already announced for this year. I don't think people realize how unusual it is to have six games announced for the next six months even before E3. Additionally, many of the games they want to show have challenges of their own:

Xenoblade -- When the game got pushed up they needed to squish the marketing cycle. They were planning on a simple introduction at E3 for everyone, but instead it was time to do a lengthy, detailed systems overview trailer for the fans because the release was just a month away. Is that the type of thing you want to put in front of a general audience during a direct? People tend to complain when the segments for games they dont care about are too long.

Splatoon -- The game was internally delayed and swapped with Xenoblade because it needed more time. It has been in three directs already so this would be a fourth appearance, plus they would need to do something later down the line when the global test fire is ready. Were they really going to have them cut five trailers overall when the game is already struggling to finish up?

Advance Wars -- Can not be seriously marketed further due to the war in Ukraine

Pokemon Scarlet / Violet -- The Pokemon company likes to do dedicated Pokemon presentations, so it can't be in the summer Direct.

That really just leaves them with Bayonetta 3 and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope. Nintendo has some remaining surprises, but those are just a bunch of Gamecube remasters (Metroid Prime, Zelda WW/TP). An update on a bunch of games we already know about and some Gamecube remasters (two of which are ports that are not that old) would not be a great direct. Sure, people who care about those games would be excited, but they would be excited in other ways those games could be presented too. Nintendo could drop some teases for games coming out in 2023, but that would just leave them in the same situation they are in now (all the games have been announced too early).

So the solution: Game-specific directs for Xenoblade and Splatoon when they are ready. A partner showcase to fulfill contractual obligations during the summer. Tweet out the smaller things (Strikers and Kart updates, Gamecube remasters) as needed. It's effective and sets them up for success later in the year for a traditional direct to outline the end of the fiscal year.

Overall, I think this may have been the right move for them and I am looking forward to it. Who knows--if we really high roll this might all be because they have a new hardware announcement in the works and, as the Bloomburg article stated some time ago, want to dazzle us with a bunch of games at the time.

But yesterday it was said that new hardware (a better performing Switch revision) was possible.
I suppose that after announcing that it is a Partner Showcase (also mini) the possibilities of new hardware have totally disappeared, right?

On the other hand, yesterday in the speculation thread about Nintendo Direct, the tweets of a Brazilian journalist were shared who said that because of the content that he had heard that the Direct would have, he would not consider it mini (even if it was called that), so no I understand nothing.

Let's all just wait and hear what Grubb has to say in about one and a half hours time. Probably about the same Nate said he heard of but couldn't exactly confirm yet with his sources.

Man, yet another time Nate was right about timing. And he was very careful to never expressly claim branding. When he was reasonably assured it was a partner showcase, he let us know that's what he thought.

I wish people would stop being weirdly passive aggressive about him. He does good work. And you don't have to come here/to his Twitter/to his channel to follow him. People are so weird.

Anyway! I have to be honest, Fire Emblem news is the only thing I was vying for a general direct over (since I didn't really expect Zelda). Otherwise, the rest of 2022 is already pretty full. Knowing release dates for Mario Rabbids, Bayo 3 and maybe some neat stuff like DQ games would make the rest of the year pretty exciting overall. So in this case, I think a partner showcase may make some sense.

Of course, I still wanted a general direct with fun surprises, but, here we are lol

When will the Show from Grubb go on?

Find it super weird and almost offensive to the developers that people treat Mario+Rabbids as if it wasn't a SRPG of the year contender on basically every site. It was a high quality, beautiful game with very good gameplay.

Hoping for some cool indies or something, can’t really think of any 3rd party AAA stuff that I’d care to play, especially after SGF

if they’re gonna waste time on the TERF game (Hogwarts), I’m def waiting for a summary/individual trailers and skipping it, I don’t wanna see that bullshit

hoping I can ignore the inevitable hype thread for it too :/

I don't know if they'd want to announce something new this close to Live A Live but I'd welcome a look at whatever Asano has coming up next

There’s nothing wrong with being negative. It’s a Partners direct and it’s not even being streamed.
Nintendo have dropped Mini's and Indie Partnerships without livestreams before and they've had good announcements. Not to mention these partner showcases in the past have revealed games like Monster Hunter Rise and SMTV, and shadowdropped games like Ori and the Will of the Wisps. Also this is significantly longer than most other partner showcases, a good 10 minutes longer than most.

Let's see what they've got lined up. It just rankles with me a bit that people only seem to care for first party related announcements. Would people prefer they stayed silent if their current 2022 lineup is all they've got left for this year from a first party perspective?

I think the movie got delayed to 2023 so unlikely we'll see a trailer now.

We could see actual partner games, like co-developed games using Nintendo's IP, that we don't know about yet and or Switch exclusives that are going to be announced.

I can't wait for the unironic complainiong that Mother 3 wasn't announced or we didn't see any of Nintendo's major IPs. You know someone is going to type that post.

Imagine if this was WiiU-era Nintendo and they just announced a 25 minute Nintendo Direct covering only third-party titles!
