StarTopic PAC-MAN MUSEUM+ |ST| Featuring Legally Distinct Pac-Ma'am

Can confirm there's not any lag in the xbox version. I wish I could use my x-input switch arcade stick in my Xbox tho

How can you confirm that when it has been 100% proven that the Xbox version, and only that version, has awful input lag?

Other accounts, such as rllmuk, are describing the Xbox version as "unplayable" for certain games.

I found the Switch version fine so far. Haven't tried PS4 yet.

Agreed here. It is frankly unplayable.

So I've been playing a lot of this collection over the weekend. I'm really glad that the coin thing is largely a non-issue. You really have to go out of your way to spend the coins in order to run out, and the free games like Pac-Man 256 are always there to get you a quick coin or two if you REALLY need it. Not to mention that even just playing a game and quickly dying gives you a single coin. It's still a weird choice for flavor, but it isn't the problem I feared.

I haven't played every game yet, but here are the ones I feel I spent significant time with:
  • PAC-MAN: It's PAC-MAN. Quintessential, not as good as Ms. Pac but still super solid. So many small things that really make this one shine - the warp tunnels that slow down the ghosts and the sharp cornering you can do to speed yourself up to outmaneuver the ghosts are my favorite aspects.
  • SUPER PAC-MAN: Namco's first attempt at a Pac-Man sequel. Unlike American devs that iterated more directly on Pac-Man, Super is a very different but still interesting game. For a lot of the early stages you can rely on Super Pac-Man's speed and invulnerability to get through, but much like the power pellet, later stages make it run out very quickly, forcing you to master the layout of the maze and the collection of keys to unlock gates. And without the tight corning and less access to the shorter warp tunnels (though the ghosts fortunately slow down underneath their pen), map knowledge is paramount. I don't think it's as good as its predecessor. It lacks that immediate simplicity that makes the original infinitely fun to replay. But it's worth a shot.
  • PAC & PAL: It's Namco's second go at a Pac-Man sequel, and it's very much like Super Pac-Man. It's...arguably a little too different and complicated? Don't have much to say here. I'm not surprised that the more straightforward Ms. Pac-Man became the sequel most people think about and not this or Super.
  • PAC-LAND: A pre-Super Mario Bros. 2D platformer - one of its big inspirations, in fact! It took some time to get my head around this one, from its unique control scheme to the sheer amount of hazards thrown at you at some points. But it's cool to see a lot of the roots of 2D Mario design - the four stage structure of each trip, walking and running speeds which affect the height of your jump, the different level types and loads of secrets to collect...the DNA is there! Kinda wish we got a home sequel that fleshed this one out.
  • PAC-MANIA: We're back to the dot munching formula of the first game, this time in a isometric "3D" space. It looks really striking, and I like how the ghosts retain their personalities from PAC-LAND. But this one is a brutal game. No cornering, no warp tunnels, you can only view part of the maze at a time (making it easier to lose track of dots and ghosts), and you have many more ghosts chasing after you this time around. The returning Sue chases you more relentlessly than Blinky (nice call-back to PAC-LAND, too), and the new Funky and Spunky clog the map as there are several of them at once. To compensate, you can jump over ghosts now, but you gotta time it just right to not screw yourself as there's some end lag to the move...not to mention that Funky and Spunky jump when you do in later mazes. It's also a very high scoring game. There are less dots in each maze but each is 60 points, fruit are harder to get due to the zoomed in view but are worth ten times the points, and by getting the pink pellet, the ghost score multiplier is doubled until Pac-Man dies - and given how many ghosts there are, you can definitely rack up a good score.
  • PAC-MAN ARRANGEMENT (Arcade): My favorite of the Namco-developed maze sequels, and one of my favorite Pac-Man experiences. Loved it as a kid and still love it now. It has all the great mechanics from the original plus plenty of new gimmicks, powerups, and an overall faster pace that makes its 23 maze-long adventure one to remember.
  • PAC'N ROLL REMIX: I remember playing the original DS version of this as a kid. The controls on a stick feel very loose - I wonder if it control better with the swipes of a stylus...
  • PAC-MAN 256: I played this a lot on mobile and it's nice to have a portable console port. It's the easiest way to rack up coins, too!
So far I've done all the missions for Super, Land and Mania. I gotta try Pac-In-Time soon...

there is input lag on xbox. It's absolutely abhorrent and very noticeable, especially on turning corners in split-second motions. The only game I really found to control well was 256, tbh. Some of the other console games control just OK but they really need to patch this ASAP. Can't speak for the other versions, but I'm not wanting to buy any of em...

I was playing it and it's fine. Tried switch version and don't notice a difference, altho the switch version performs worse in the arcade itself.

100% false, sorry. But great that you can still enjoy it even if itā€™s that bad, tho an entirely different matter is saying it is fine. Itā€™s not, nobody should waste money on it, try on GP if they can and thatā€™s it.

Dunno how you can feel itā€™s the same as on NSW, theyā€™re worlds apart.

Maybe it's different if you're like a high score hunter? That would explain why you notice something that I don't. Like how some people apparently notice issues with F-Zero X on NSO.

So, I got the top score on Pac-Man Arrangement on Switch, huh? Doubt it'll last long, but for now, I'll take it. I applaud anyone who goes for the high score without using the save feature.

So the devs forgot to remove Ms. Pac-Man from the credits of Pac-Man Arrangement console version.

Oops!

The arcade version is way better, by the way. Pac-Man lacks cornering and the mazes are only okay. Lots of dead ends at points and a bunch of alright gimmicks and power ups. Kinda underwhelming despite having the more basic and appealing eat all the dots set up.

Pac-In-Time sure is a European-developed 90's 16-bit platformer.

Is what I just said affectionate or derogatory? Depends on the minute. It's probably the game I feel the most conflicted about in the collection. On the one hand, exploring the sprawling levels and using the rope power in conjunction with the game's physics can be pretty fun! On the other game, this is a game where you need to explore sprawling levels and attempt to work with the game's wild physics and wonky controls to collect all the Pac-Dots scattered throughout the stage. I've gotten through the first world and it felt exhausting at points. I am absolutely not surprised that searching "Pac in Time" on Twitter brings up a slew of negative opinions.

Also, I've learned that there is a reward for clearing all of the collection's missions...

You unlock the ability to play all of the arcade games without spending any tokens.

I bet if this went viral theyā€™d patch it

you could be famous

Have they patched this yet? Player One Podcast said the emulation is not very good.
There haven't been any patches, no. Which emulation issues did they mention, exactly? I see the co-host mentioned the Y button mapping (yeah, that's never gonna be fixed, that's a [questionable] design decision) and the use of Pac-In-Time's Japanese version over the localizations (which, yeah, would be nice to see the English version instead of the Japanese with a translation, but that turns Pac-In-Time from a janky physics platformer with limited appeal to a janky physics platformer with limited appeal in English). Did they mention any others?

...honestly, I don't see too many major patches coming to this game. There's the holiday wallpapers for the arcade, those could be timed updates, but my expectations are being placed very low here.

A few days ago, I finally finished all of the Pac & Pal missions. Yeah, probably not going back to that one. It's the worst of the Namco maze sequels by far. Now all I have left is Battle Royale and most of the console games. I still haven't unlocked Pac-Attack because I feel like playing Pac-In-Time will be very daunting.

I also updated OP with the proper eShop information!
