I'm not Canadian either, but our hockey team consistently disappoints in the playoffs, so I think I quality to move to Toronto (though we do have more Stanley Cup wins in the last 50 years than the Maple Leafs).
Yeah but then you'd have to live in Canada.

right on there hosers what you do you say aboot heading down to the local Tim Hortons there and getting a double double and some Timbits! Then we can go home and watch Hockey Night in Canada and drink some Molson!!!
Fukken eh bud, you wanna go for a rip and just give'r after the game?

Anyone else remember Mario Motors?

Had to randomly think about it. I can see why it was cancelled but it’s a shame we never got another Nintendo game by Yoot Saito.

Why are we talking about ginger ale brands again
It doesn't really translate in text but just try to imagine me shouting "Fever-Tree" at you in my best exaggerated Jared Keeso voice.

Famiboards, more like Fam-eh-boards, am I right.
I'm genuinely embarrassed that I didn't think of this first.

I think the majority of Famiboards users are Canadian.
Not Canadian, but currently live in an european country full of mountains and lakes, who get very cold during winter, and in which ice hockey is a major sport, do I qualify ?

Australia is just Southern Hemisphere Canada isn’t it?

Or is that New Zealand?
Laid-back people, bbq culture, nice beaches, different climates, surfers... ain't Australia more like a Southern Hemisphere California ?

Wasn't he in Mortal Kombat? (boooo! get better material!)

I’m not Canadian, but my family immigrated from Canada to the US about three to four generations ago I think. So I’m like 1/5th Canadian?

woke up with a big smile on my face because I remembered they're remaking Dragon Quest III in that beautiful HD 2D

I would definitely just suggest that you stick to arcade sports games, though! I enjoy arcade sports games as well, and they offer that pick-up-and-play approach that you're going for. However, most sim players are serious about the games actually simulating everything about the sport. ;)

Some of us are so sick that sometimes, we don't want to actually play the game; we just want to do the "busywork." Shout out to my fellow Football Manager and OOTP Baseball players here. Um, if there are any of you at a Nintendo-focused website.
I can't speak to Madden, NHL etc, but this is certainly not what FIFA used to be. The focus was on the actual football gameplay, and the management part was honestly pretty underbaked. And you certainly could do what ngp is describing, i.e. play seasons with the same team without worrying about management. I'm pretty sure FIFA only became a full management sim around the time they stopped releasing the dedicated management games.

I'm glad you enjoy the games in their current form, but "this is just what they are, if you don't like them play an arcade game" is definitely not the take here.
I played FIFA last night and it certainly does not have that option! I wish it did. The core gameplay is fun enough, but they mire it in all kinds of nonsense that you cannot skip. It's an option that used to exist that no longer does for reasons that I cannot fathom.

(also, a "season" or "playoff" mode is not what I am looking for; I want the ability to see a team through multiple seasons without having to manage a bunch of nonsense I want no part of)

If I'm wrong, please show me! In my experience, of the games I care about, Madden still allows you to play with most of the off-field action simulated. The last NBA I played did not, and I haven't touched NHL for years. MLB The Show has all of the mini-games in RTTS that can't be skipped, unless you want your player to be bad forever.

I'm fine with the core gameplay if it isn't a chore to get to it. I mean, I may be wrong, but it seems like every sports game I start up now has to drown itself in monotony before you even "play ball".
To add to this - it seems like all the "improvements" they add in each iterative release are not on the gameplay side. I picked up FIFA 22 last year, expecting a fairly dramatic difference from the last FIFA game I owned, which was 14.

I could barely tell the difference.

Honestly, even the management part didn't really seem any different. The main change was that there were now half-baked cutscenes when you started transfer negotiation, which seemed unskippable and I honestly would have preferred they omitted. It seems like all their effort goes into Ultimate Team since that's where the microtransactions are.

Clearly Mr. James is approaching this question from an academic, historical standpoint. While it's clear that the GameCube is the better console, the Nintendo 64 was much more historically significant. That's what he's getting at. Clearly.

We help keep this place sane.
common misconception; we’re part of the insanity but either delude ourselves sane with national marketing or just mimic the insanity in a watered-down way months later

yes this is a dig about a wide range of things

Haven’t been around lately, so this may have already been discussed, but what do we all think of the likelihood of Nintendo having the next direct outside of June (i.e. may or july) due to them possibly not participating in SGF?
I don't think SGF's existence is gonna affect Nintendo's plans one iota. If they were planning for June 14th before E3 got cancelled, it'll be June 14th.

Its highly unlikely imo. Nintendo needs to detail their 2nd half, especially since August is blank. July is too late to announce anything releasing in August and June is already what everyone expects anyway. June direct is almost guaranteed imo

Unlikely that there will be a July Direct since that would be too close to their traditional September Direct. I'd bet an early to mid June Direct is their plan.

I don't think there's much reason for Nintendo to drop their usual marketing rhythm on Switch, with a June event followed up by a September event. It's not like we're back in 2020 - they can and do put together the regular Directs so I see no reason for them to depart from what works.

June means they can announce and promote their second half line up and then September means they can kick off a big year end marketing push. Anything later than June disrupts that.

It's not impossible, but I think it's unlikely Nintendo wait until July.

I have to drive 7 hours for work next Tuesday, so we will definitely be getting some sort of announcement that day. You’re all welcome.

Loling at the fact that anyone who responded to my post disregarded May entirely, amazing😂

Just because they're not participating in sgf doesn't mean they can't have a direct

Lol, same thing every time. Before last June, i remember people on Era saying "i think this Direct won't be a a big deal". Then before the September one some said "well Nintendo has a filled calendar already, they don't need a Direct right now. Maybe a Partner". Chillax, guys. We'll get our Direct.

(I am also Canadian)
