I guess the VGC tweet people were talking about earlier may have been because they gave Chocobo GP a higher score than Gran Turismo? lol

So cancelled my pre order for now. Going to wait what y’all think first here. I love me a good TRPG and Tactics Ogre, which this reminds me of… but Kirby is coming out soon and I want to play that first and this seems like the story heavy game that will need my full attention once I start playing.

Hopefully y’all have good feedback here!

I might have students when reviews drop. Stupid job taking time away from looking at stuff on the internet.

I think what you touched upon, with skill progression, especially with magecite and how customizable it was in 6 with the skills you can have a character learn. Octopath obviously took it to a much more expansive level.

Sure, CT also took it there, but it wasn’t as customizable IMO
I realized this morning that the skill acquisition system is largely the same as how Jobs worked in Final Fantasy Tactics: jobs have a buffet of skills you can purchase it's up to the player to prioritze them. However, unlike FFT you're not hamstrung by a set number of slots to squeeze them into, so it looks more like a synthesis of FFT and Chrono Trigger to me rather than say FFVI's magicite which allowed for a larger set of things to acquire (and also solely focused on magic).

To reiterate my point though.... the game draws on so much prior art that you can easily point to most of the design and know which game they cherry-picked pieces from. And I think people are going to see different sources of inspiration depending on their own experiences with their genre. I think that's cool.

I was starting to think my bet on it achieving a metascore of 85 was too optimistic, but it might get there.

Rings were so last week, Triangles are the thing now

he said in this thread so people would notice it

I would have loved to get this as I enjoyed the demo well enough. However, it is just not enough for me to get at $60. Hopefully will pick up if they ran a discount in future. My next full priced game will be Advance Wars.
Ok I am changing my mind lol. Reviews have convinced me the content is going to be strong. Buying now

The priase for the story got me really excited! Looks like another solid Team Asano game. Can't wait!

I was going to get the game no matter what scores it got because I enjoyed the demo, but I'm glad it's getting some great reviews since I know some decisions hinge on these.

Team Asano hits it out of the park again; They are in my opinion one of the best teams at SE and I love this resurgence they have had on the Switch!

That the story is getting some praise pretty much addresses my only reservation with Triangle Strategy. (Octopath Traveler was a massive disappointment in this regard)

I'll be picking this up.

Ultimately excited for the game because the combats look great, but this phrase in the Eurogamer review got me a bit worried for the pacing of the game

A battle is often followed by over an hour of cutscenes [...] I've played visual novels that involved their players more heavily than Triangle Strategy

Yeah the reviews are pretty unanimous on there being a lot of dialog. Apparently the demo might have actually been underrepresenting that

I don't think I'll mind since I liked the story portions of the demo but it's a good thing to note

glad this seems to have turned out well. definitely don’t mind long story segments on principle, but here’s hoping they’re actually interesting
