If it can give us a good meme akin to "too much water" it's already served its purpose

It will be criticized for not having sportmates and gyro controls.

I said 85-90. Maybe on the lower end of that, but I think it'll do quite well. The gameplay seems great, with lots of challenge and strategic possibility. The different routes etc seem like it will leave people with lots to sink their teeth into. The HD-2D look isn't new anymore, sure, but I think Triangle Strategy looks great.

I'll admit the voice acting in the demo kind of deterred me lol. Is there language options for that?

Won't be there at launch since I've got a whole lot of Elden Ring to go, but I'll pick this up eventually.

I'm thinking low 80s or maybe even high 70s. From the demo, I don't find it quite as engaging as a FE and, in some ways, I think there's a bit too much going on visually. But it has an interesting premise with how the story can change depending on what actions you decide to take, the HD-2D look is real nice, and the SRPG gameplay is honestly fun

the infamous GS Radiant Dawn review. Always my go to example to prove reviews don't tell the whole story haha

Square enix could be releasing both their highest (triangle strategy) and their lowest 2022 rated game in the same month.

My CE just shipped! Perhaps it's the first time I get something early!

I predict a 84, but I'll love it even more.

I predict at 78, good presentation and content but non-strategy fans won't have much to attract them.

Oh jeez, I thought this was coming later in the month. Need to hurry and finish up Arceus.

Low 80s seems likely to me.

My SE "shipped" over night as well, but I would not get my hopes up. Amazon Germany seem to do that thing currently where they announce it has been shipped the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, but then don't actually move the parcel significantly until Thursday, to make sure you don't get it early.

At least that has been the case for me with Elden Ring as well.

Damn it! Just once I want to get something early! :(

I think similar to Octopath Traveler, since although it is a less popular genre, it will have a more traditional pace for its genre than OT.

Babylon's Fall is what I expect him to be talking about. Given the context is about GT7, another Sony tied game is likely.
Yea, Babylon seems to make more sense in the context.

Also as a side note, I thought that game looked pretty cool at the first showing and man, that opinion has just been going down and down.

Definitely not, I think everyone on earth is expecting Babylon’s Fall to be trash so no one would be surprised or pissed at a bad review

I voted 80-85. I expect it to actually be in the 78-81 range in particular, so I picked the more optimistic side. Could see it being in the 7's.

I also expect to personally like it a whole lot more than reviewers though lol.

these should be dropping today, right?

Famitsu's scores are out, 8/9/9/9

I really dislike reviews but still want games to score nicely. Funny how Bravely Default II, NTWEWY and SMTV are all below 85 but the 3 are on my Top15 switch games and 2 in my top 10

What other reviews other than Triangle Strategy are due to come out? It seems to me that his tease is that VGC will be going well against the commonly held opinion on whatever game that's next.
I suppose it could be Babylon's Fall? that's the only other option

But that's not expected to be good is it? Unless VGC's review is going to be that Babylon's Fall is alongside Elden Ring in GOTY contention, VGC is likely to be down on the game along with everyone else.

At the end of the day, I guess it's hard for me to anticipate the mindset of ppl who get angry about reviews so I have no idea.

I recall people being super pissed at Schreier for his negative review of Octopath. guess the fact that it's a (timed?) switch exclusive brings out the riffraff

Wasn’t Schreier also down on Xenoblade? I know he’s a fan of the genre but I recall he was incredibly whiny in a review of something that wasn’t Octopath too.
I remember the God of War guy threw a fit because he reported on crunch for tlou2

he didn't like Xenoblade 2, either, but I wouldn't characterize the review as whiny

(I'd read it again but the GMG union is striking, and I'm not trying to cross the picket line)

Also some esteemed reviewer is definitely going to snip a point or few away just because they don't like the naming gimmick that Square has had with the HD-2D line. I love that they are willing to jest with it.

After countless iterations on "Final Fantasy", they should know better lol.

I think 80ish too, I liked what I played in the demo despite it being very story focused and quite light on battling. Like, 3 chapters, 6 hours, just 3 fights? Don't think most people will like that, unless it picks up pace after the plot kicks off.

"Game is an 8/10 but title is a 5/7, so I am giving it 3 bananas out of 5 pineapples."

Yes. People were mad. But it came down to people disliking his frequent commenting that he kept getting annoyed at the FFVI comparison Octopath was getting. Which was the headline in his review thus a few didn’t read it and assumed that was the whole review about.

Then he had a very hypocritical comment on era about Xenoblade 2 that was really him being emotional rather then rational in his response. It was a messy thing that in that didn’t really matter. The usual review thread nonsense that happens.

Didn't help that he made an article for both games as a reaction after people started disagreeing with his review.

I mean, the reviews themselves were not the problem as much as him being bitter after them.

Writing a negative review (anything below a 9/10 apparently) is a good business decision because it brings clicks to your old reviews as people look through your entire history in an attempt to invalidate the review. "Their subjective opinion on this game I haven't even played yet doesn't count because five years ago they also wrote a negative review for some other game I like. And eight years ago they wrote a positive review for a game I dislike, and no, I do not see the irony in saying my negative opinion is valid but their negative opinion is not."

The issue with Schreier's review was not that he was not hot on it, but his reaction to people (including other reviewers) liking the game and disagreeing with his premise that the game needs to be a certain way story wise since he is the type that likes sweeping epic stories in JRPGS (which again, is FAIR). And as soon as he found players that were not as hot on the game he went all (I TOLD YOU SO). He can often come off as really immature and narcissistic in general (outside the OT review even), which I never got why. He is a good writer. Not everyone needs to agree with you. Chill dude.

His reasoning for not being hot on the game is perfectly valid - even if I disagree with the premise that everything has to have a sweeping overarching story and must connect - but I get it that many peoples prefer that, and may not be too keen on small scale intimate slice of life style stories for rpgs. I think both options are valid. One is not better than the other. I also do not have a desire for everything to connect, which is why I feel that post game - which felt like a last minute addition - is stupid. I saw each character as its own game, with some good writing and character motivations, each feeling like a different genre. Loved it. The tavern scenes were just cute vignettes to add some flavor, nothing more.

Again, I fully understand it may not be for everyone. It is subjective after all. It's more of how you react to it, especially when others may disagree (and no one was being rude outside of your usual inconsequential drive by twitter troll).

Have you seen his reactions to people complaining about Elden Ring stuff? He can be VERY childish.

At this point I don't really care what the review scores are because I'm very hooked on the demo. Almost done with it and super looking forward to Friday 😁
