I haven't seen anyone ask the most important question about Xenoblade 3 yet: Will Dunban be over there?

Sooooo this trailer made me really wanna play say Xenoblade.

I played and loved Xenoblade 2 when it came out, but as per usual with me, I finish the game but don't go back for the DLC.

Is Torna worth it?
Torna is fantastic.

And to some, arguably the best Xenoblade game due to its tighter focus.

100%. I enjoyed it more than the base game personally. Loved the changes to the combat and the short, but bittersweet, story.

Totally, it took me a while to play it (actually just played it this year) but it's an absolute blast. I'd say on par with the base game but with different strengths (much tighter pacing, more dynamic but less customizable combat). Definitely worth a playthrough if you enjoyed the base game

Literally just posted this in another thread, but for whatever it's worth, a different opinion:

"XC2:Torna is a frustrating experience if you like to keep it moving in Xenoblade games. This is the chapter that forces you to mire down into the minute. Forced, boring sidequests until you want to scream. If that's not you, watch the synopsis on Youtube and move on. There's not any compelling gameplay outside of that. For me, it was all the worst parts of Xenoblade with none of the highlights. I loved the main adventure, hated the DLC. Un-yeah if you wish."

I'll add a bit more detail since it's a main thread:

There's a slightly tweaked battle system that does little. You can now swap between your blade and main character if that makes much of a difference to you. I believe a main draw is supposed to be that you can control Jin and Mythra directly, but that just amounts to a few button presses inbetween "go here, do that" gameplay. Once you've figured out everything interesting, there's way more fetch-questing to do if you have any hope to move along the story. For real - there is a hard gate of like 25 more side-quests every time you turn around. You'll be begging for a "skip" button in no time.

Just when you think you're through the worst of it, it will double and ask for more.

Painful.

I got it included with a bundle and still hated it. If I'd paid extra, I would have been pissed.

YMMV

I agree with both sides listed above

Torna absolutely gets filled/fetch questy BUT it’s not a massive timesink, the story is great, and the combat is fun and streamlined.

I've already got 2 digitally on Switch so that's not an issue.

I did have 1 but I sold it cause I kinda fell off it. Thinking I might get a voucher and finish both games.

Though tbh I just didn't really like 2 that much - especially when it got to the "you have to deal with the gacha system," parts. I'm not sure I want to finish it, and there's no 'easy mode' to make finishing it just for the story a possibility.
The only thing you "have to" deal with the gacha system is making sure you have enough blades for field skills, it doesn't matter if they're rare blades or not, you don't even have to work on their skill trees(infact you can unlock a good number of them just playing through the game regularly). It's not some awful thing. But if you just can't play it again, then you can watch chuggaaconroy's let's play of the game

I thought Torna was great. The gating does not take long to overcome at all. And doing the side quests is kinda the point… It gets you to spend time with the community you build throughout the expansion and for me personally, made the ending hit that much harder, because you feel the impact of what gets lost.

rewatching the area segments in slow mode, it seems like they improved the draw distance on grass/foliage by a bit but it's still present unfortunately, that was my biggest issues with the visuals of XC games. Too bad there's no switch pro.

There's no reason those purple orbs couldn't represent XC2-esque collection points.
In the trailer they look randomly scattered, especially in that area with the flame-like leaves at ~1min into the trailer. There's at least 4-5 of them in that split second.

I know some spots in 2 were close together, but not to this extent.

I posted this on the general thread, but it might be better here.

So now that we know XC3 is releasing this year and that the Switch will probably last at least two more years (until the last DLC for MK8 launches), things are looking much better for a possible XCX port, right?

I mean, Monolith is most likely moving on to the next hardware after XC3 is completed, which should leave them some room to have a team working on porting X to the Switch. And that might even mean that their first Switch 2 game could be XCX2? That sounds like a plausible timeline, they would probably leave the XC line alone for a while to avoid fatigue.

I just really want to play XCX and I don't want to do it on my Wii U.
I haven't played X since I did not have a Wii U and was always hoping it would come to the Switch as it looks great. I will be patient and complete 3

Orbs, shmorbs — what I want to know is whether we will have customisable outfits again, after we didn't in 2.

Did anyone here make this connection yet? Xenoblade 3 seems to like these circles lol.

I certainly hope so!

The Definitive Edition of XBC was developed alongside XBC3 from summer 2018 to early 2020. It's possible those staff then joined XBC3 to help with that, but it's also possible they were assigned to another, 'smaller' project. An XCX port would fit the bill.

It could also be the case that an XCX port is commissioned as XBC3 wraps up; or XBX and dlc for 3 enter development soon. I wouldn't say it's 100% guaranteed, but the odds are decent. XBC 3 wraps up a narrative arc which will be present in its entirety on Switch, and Monolith Soft's Xeno team have been pretty productive on Switch. XBC 3 expansion in 2023 and XBX in 2024 would be great.

I think
[=" we've all ready heard part of Vandams' 'death' speech in the trailer and by the sounds of it, it'll be a factor in what brings the 2 parties together"]

Torna is fantastic. It's basically a self-contained game in its own right, and at ~20-30 hours it's longer than many other games too! The gameplay is tight and polished, and the world is beautiful and distinct from the vanilla game. The characters feel more grounded and the VA performances are much better than base XC2, even with the same actors.

Yes, there are a lot of sidequests as others have mentioned, but if you do them alongside the main story it's absolutely fine. If you're the sort of player who tends to ignore all sidequests just to power through the story, then you're gonna have a bad time. Completing many of them is essential for getting to the ending.

Speaking of flutes:

At some point Noah changes from the black flute to the white flute, and Mio ends up with the black flute. Could be related to the scene where he gives her a flute, but I'm guessing the different flutes have different purposes/significance.

I registered once again to point out that the game will inevitably have a "indirect kiss" gag with the flute and the internet will whine about how this game is anime and it forever ruined the first Xenoblade for the next 5 years until Xenoblade 4 is announced and the cycle repeats once again.

Looks like XC1-style collectibles are back as purple lights this time. I'm not sure why they'd go with this again after XC2 did collectibles in a much better way, it kind of ruins the picturesque landscapes and it's much dumber mechanically.

While XC2 added more context to the collectibles, you had to stop every single time and wait for the animations of field skills too for bonus drops.

I prefer the XC1 and X way where i can just run past them and it won't break the flow when exploring.

Speculating a little while reading the dev diaries and interviews for XC1 DE i think the devs realized that not all changes introduced in 2 were for the better.

Plenty of people. Keves seems to take after Future Connected Shulk fashion. Called Monado style in-game, with the actual equipment itself being called REX ironically enough (from Replica EX). Presumably those glowing circular pieces of equipment have something to do with supplying energy to their replica style weapons.

On the other side Agnus is mostly fashioned after Tornan style (the country, not the terrorists), this is especially apparent on Mio whose clothes could be easily described as a female version of Addam's, futuristic jacket aside, but you can see it on their foot soldiers as well. Besides Torna, you can find slight hints of Master Driver Rex and Pneuma in Agnus characters, most apparent in the greaves and gauntlets of Taion and Sena.

I hope and expect this to be a good mix of all Xenoblade‘s before it. I’m interested to see how they are going to tie everything together tonally.

It looks darker than the first game and miles away from the second game. I can’t wait to see how they balance all these characters in this new title.

Nia’s quite an easygoing character with good banter in XC2, but she seems very different based on the admittedly scant footage/audio we’ve seen/heard so far.

Again, regarding the tone of the trailer, it‘s crazy to think it follows on from XC and XC2 when you look at the endings they got.

I trust the team to honour those games and characters, but it’s going to be a trip by the looks of things!

They really are having Xenoblade 1 vs Xenoblade 2 be the premise.

Maybe it's the fan in me, but I can see bits of Sharla, Reyn (just listen to her!) and Melia in her. Maybe she's the daughter of Sharla & Reyn's child, and Melia herself (or Melia's child)? I'm also seeing Shulk, Fiora and Dunban in Noah, so he might be Shulk and Fiora's descendant. Characters from the Agnus side also show traits from several XC2 characters.
Or something like that, yes. It seems that a lot of time has passed between games, so any kind of descendants would make sense. That could also explain Eunie's black wings perhaps? Like, the brown hair from Reyn, the black wings from Sharla? Noah also has a hairstyle similar to Shulk. Though that one flute-playing character also looks like a mix of Shulk and Fiora with the longer hair making them almost look like Zanza.
Could flaming hair Blade girl be related to Brighid?

Nah, guys this world is xB1 and 2 combined.

Which means there now has to be 2 freindzoned characters.

So MiO and Eunice are going to be in an unrequited love triangle with Noah, who, with very little deliberation, and great confidence and affection, ships with himself. A moment crowned by the epic and moving narcissistic love song 'I am so beautiful, to me.'
I know this a joke post and all, but wouldn't it be a nice change to have same-sex love interests? Say, a love triangle between Noah, Mio and Eunie, where Eunie loves Mio? Other than the bathtub Blade Sheba and potentially? Mórag and Brighid, there haven't been much implied same-sex feelings, right?

Her design is a lot closer to Kasandra though.
Because of the markings? I read about that. There's nothing flaming about her though.
It's also not like everyone has to be related to someone we know from past games. I don't mind the The One trope, but Shulk and Rex became The One by accident basically. Making a whole party of characters descended from past heroes become the new heroes might be overdoing it with The One.

I have to say that I like that the party seems a lot more varied than in past games. Homs seems to be in the minority this time.

I actually sometimes call XCX Xenocross, I think. lol
I actually thought that XC was XC also in Japan, then XCX was XX in Japan though, and I thought "Why add the C then?" Later I learned it's actually only called Xenoblade in Japan. 😅

Real talk here, I hope they implement something similar to the Blade System in XC2 (which I feel was a big part of its success). Having unique characters as collectables that could also work as weapons made the game much more compelling.

The markings and their weapon. I don't think they'll make them related through the story, a lot of connections will just be nods.

Just without the badly implemented gacha thank you.

Eh, I kinda liked that too. Added a bit of the whole "collectible" aspect.
It also added tons of discarding and farming if you wanted access to the rest of the rare blade quest contents. Nothing like that should be locked behind gacha after you've completed the main story.

Then again, there were ways to improve your luck at it. I didn't have much problems getting most of the Blades in that regard.

On the other hand, I think a more traditional way to collect them could be an improvement.

Yeah, I have strong feelings about the gacha blade system having soured me hard on base XBC2, so I hope they don't revisit that concept.

The knock on effect of the blade system wasn't even just the collectible aspect, or the flexibility in team building, they had so much content linked to them.

Dozens of blade quests, all with voiced cutscenes. They offered up a crazy amount of content and unique stories.

I hope they can plug that gap somehow. XC had the main quest, then nothing.

I was able to summon them all, but I hated the grind. I didn't even end up doing all the quests I wanted because I wasted so much time getting the blades first. I pretty much lost my motivation at that point.

We already have a blade in the party, they seem to be fully autonomous beings now.

If I had to guess the combat system will probably revolve around some aspect of the lore that has not been revealed yet or at least has not been explained.

I've been banned from era for two weeks because I said XC2 characters were dressed like sex workers lol I wasn't trying to offend sex workers, I just think those designs are inappropriate.

Caught me by surprise, i had never even been warned since I joined the site, and two weeks is a lot. Anyway, I'm removing myself from any discussion about Xenoblade designs ever again.

We'll surely see a new combat system, seeing that the two weapons shown in this game are hinted to be multi-purpose. Lanz sword also acts as a shield and Eunie's staff has a gun barrel at the other end.

Xenoblade X's combat was varied until I learned how to infinite overdrive and then I started cheesing everything using the exact same arts in the very same order without taking damage.
