TTYD remake looks visually perfect. The style is perfected IMO. Every future Paper Mario game could retain this artstyle and I’d be happy. It’s a blend of the old TTYD look and the modern games, and they did a phenomenal job. It looks paper-y, but not too much that it becomes distracting or a central theme. It’s subtle, but present… exactly as it should be.
I’ve seen people on Twitter say that Mario’s maintained his white outline and that it’s just much thinner, but this isn’t the case. It’s not an outline anymore, it’s depth given to each individual piece of his model. Take a look at his model up close and you’ll see that it’s not a consistent white outline around the whole figure, it’s actually the depth of each portion of his body that you see when viewed from a certain angle. This style seems to apply to every other character model as well.
I would never have thought of this, but it’s absolutely perfect. What a wonderful way to evolve the series’ artstyle. I am so excited to get my hands on this.
