Still bizarre DKC DK lives on through Mario branded merchandise and movies.
To be fair, I believe it's appeared in more Mario spinoffs than there are Donkey Kong Country games. It's in Mario Party 1 and 10, Mario Kart 7 and 8, Mario Power Tennis and Tennis Open, Mario Golf World Tour, Mario & Sonic Rio 2016, Mario Strikers Battle League, Mario Super Sluggers and Mario + Rabbids Kingdom Battle. Also most of the MvsDK games and the Kingdom Battle DK Adventure DLC but I feel like those are much more expected due to DK being in the title.I was listening to a Mario music cover compilation the other day on YouTube, and like several minutes in they go right into Jungle Groove from DKC - and like, I appreciate it, but my brain started to hurt…my heart and soul still separates Super Mario and Donkey Kong Country.

Shamelessly using this to point out some of the really great remixes it's gotten in Mario games.
It’s undeniable that DK is very important to Nintendo. BUT I’m beginning to believe that DK as a character is more important than DK as a franchise. They seem to have gone all in on portraying DK as a goofball that has a rivalry with Mario above all else. I think DK as a franchise is an afterthought now guys. I think we’ll get 1 new game a gen and have DK folded into the Mario franchise. Think of the DK series like Luigi’s Mansion. It’s still its own series but just a Mario spinoff. That’ll probably be the fate of DK moving forward.
At least we'd get a game every 6 years, it's better than nothing for a decade, lmao. It’s undeniable that DK is very important to Nintendo. I was implying that Tropical Freeze is the “new game this gen” even though it’s not. But it ticks a box to corporate Nintendo of having a DK game on their current platform just like how the 3DS version of Returns ticked that box even though it’s also just a port. It’s pretty fucking sad but I think this is how Nintendo views it.Yeah, I pretty much agree with all of this, although at this rate my hopes are dwindling that we're even going to get a new game this gen. I'd love to see it proven otherwise, though.
no they fucking don't lmaoWhat broke me is that the KremlingKampaigner on Twitter who I’ve always admired has given up on this franchise and that account definitely knows more about what’s going on behind the scenes than I do.
"It's okay that there hasn't been a new DK game in ten years. The Mario vs. Donkey Kong remake will be used to advertise the Super Nintendo World DKC expansion!"
Meanwhile, the Japanese commercial for the game doesn't even show Donkey Kong.
Don't get too excited about that.Oddly, the rumor of Switch 2 in 2025, makes me more hopeful for a DK this year as the holiday game and swan song for the Switch.
If by that you mean open world, then I do too. The issue is that I believe monolithsoft helped a lot in creating the world in botw and totk. Would Nintendo take monolithsoft away from zelda and xenoblade to instead work on a donkey kong game?I really want Nintendo to give DK the BoTW treatment.
Donkey Kong is not immune to FOMO, he is, however, immune to "you will give us all your stuff".Imagine if the Tiki Tak Tribe had known that spamming a "buy them all! buy them all!" commercial would have been more than enough to hypnotize Donkey Kong.
Damn, the Donkey Kong fandom can't catch a break. Not even Wikipedia articles are safe. How is Diddy less "notable" than Geno and Rabbid Peach?
The idea of the potential story where DK pisses off the moon aliens after DKCR sounds like it could have been a really fun idea. I'm happy with the Snowmads but it would have been crazy if we got DKC: Alien Invasion instead of Tropical Freeze.
we could have been in the timeline where playable Xananab was Nintendos big announcement at the Spike 2013 game awards instead of Cranky
I’m positive the Land games and maybe the GBA Country games are coming. The question is when.
Same with DK64 and DKR.
They are about to drop a theme park based entirely on the DK franchise in 2 months. You don’t drop a theme park on a franchise you don’t see having a futureIt’s undeniable that DK is very important to Nintendo. I just wish they'd let you play the Land games in Super Game Boy colors. They're an eye strain in black/white, IMO.I’m positive the Land games and maybe the GBA Country games are coming. The question is when.

Also localizing the GBC version of Land III wouldn't hurt, either...
You mean Land 2? Land III was the only game in the trilogy to receive a Color version.I’ve always found it so weird that they just skipped part 2 on GBC. Not to mention the fact of why it received a Japanese only release.

Well, I'm torn between coming back to speedrunning Tinykin or starting Yakuza 4 very soon, and doing the two things at the same time will be impossible due to the amount of time I plan to put in these. So tonight I wanted to play a little game, and since I beat the DKC SNES trilogy for the first time this last week, I decided to give a shot at Donkey Kong Land, which was one of my childhood game (in which I saw like 5 levels at best lol). Turns out I really like it and most of the concerns I had completely vanished. Controls are... well, let's be honest, they are kinda bad, but also when you start to know how to play it, it's not so bad. Actually I read terrible things about that game and I have to disagree with a lot of these.
Currently at World 4-2, I'll finish this tomorrow. So far I consider only one level to be awfully bad (3-5, with these platforms you can change the direction by jumping on it). Everything else was really cool, even more considering it's a Game Boy game.
I still wouldn't rule out a Pokemon BW remake being announced later, but it's certainly looking like a question mark what will be this year's big holiday game. With Pokémon Legends Z-A coming out next year, the Switch's holiday lineup is completely empty. I think it would be poetic if Metroid Prime 4 and a new Donkey Kong game were the swan songs for the system; the last time a new DK game came out, people complained because it wasn't Metroid. To get both in one year would be a redemption story for the ages.
I personally wouldn't care about long wait between mainline games if we had at least spinoffs in the meantime to hold us over.Getting EPD DK on Switch 1 this year only to spend the next 12 years pondering if the next DK game after that will be a late Switch 2 or early Switch 3 title is an appropriate fate for us DK fans
