StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

Well, if it’s 2025, better wait until november and avoid gta6.

I know a loser when I see one. Going against GTA6 will destroy this thing like a Thanos snap. Wow, now we have our Nintendo moment.

Very disappointing news if true. As they were a year ago. And two years ago. And three years ago...
I wonder if the reveal in March is still happening. If they finally showed the thing and some games, at least there would be something tangible to hold onto as we wait. Now they could just release a statement that their next system will release next FY at the investors meeting in May.

If they decide to push it to next FY, they won't talk about it and just say the same dumb lines they always say.
And that will be quite infuriating.

Nintendo should just replicate how Microsoft announced the Xbox 360.

If this rumour is true, it's going to be in March 2025, Nintendo's not going to release it in January and February, and you don't go from early to late 2024 to late 2025.
Of course. But they could decide to delay it to next fiscal year to kickstart it with a bang, while saying to investors to expect this year to be a transition year with low expectations.

It sounds like Wii U 2.0, and nobody wants that. You also have to think of the third-party games and the third parties relaying to release their games on the Switch 2.

Please use inclusive language while referring to others. Not all Famiboards users are "guys" – Party Sklar, meatbag, big lantern ghost
March 2025 ant earliest? XD, if is after March 2025 T239 Drake will be outdated then, this is just so terrible guys

Ah man seriously? After all the hype about a March reveal this really sucks. I hope they at least acknowledge the existence of a successor soon but I'm now thinking we hear nothing until 2024 Q3

GTA6 isn't H1 2025. Their financial reports say so.
We don’t know when GTA VI will be released ,it might be February or March 2025, they finacial slide just said CY 25 beacuse this is what was announced Rockstar dosent want delay like in past that’s why they give only year Strauss Zelnick said, FY25 is April 2024-March 2025, FY26 April 2025-March 2026

@Shareholder Chad is laughing all the way to the bank.

That was the right time to sell your Nintendo shares.
Mentioning a large number of investors browse this thread, contradicting what he heard about the release window to generate hype and selling all his shares, the joker pfp.

Much like TRump, ilumiati and Target; All connected.
He truly lived up to his name.

(this message was a joke)

I was really hoping that I could continue playing TotK on 4K this year. I played half the game after launch, then I got distracted by other games. And them I was like, I can continue the game after the launch of the next gen hardware, hopefully when it gets a performance patch. Now I have to decide if I continue the game on the Switch, or I wait and start over when the Switch 2 finally releases.

You mean the ones that are mega pissed right now because they counted on switch 2 to help them through the shitty fiscal year incoming ? 😅

Well the 3DS didn’t flop, one could argue that it underperformed but given the circumstances it did better than most thought. And we can’t just look at the overprice like it wasn’t several issues combined to have it be that way:
  • 3D that was old hat & had articles scaring away potential customers
  • Relying on inconsistent 3rd parties at launch
  • 1st party drought due to the WiiU
Nor do I really see how not dropping the price of the Switch correlates in confidence that Nintendo may overprice Redacted.
People completely forget the situation Nintendo was in before the Switch was released. The success of the Switch is so phenomenal that people forget.

I well remember that when Nintendo's interim president expressed optimism, many reactions were at best cautious, at worst very sceptical. A lot of people were saying that if the 'NX' achieved even slightly better sales than the 3DS, then it would be a success and a relief for Nintendo, whose future seemed to be at stake in 2016. It just goes to show that the 3DS's sales figures, even if they didn't match the meteoric rise of the DS, Switch or Wii, weren't really all that bad. In fact, it was the 3DS that helped Nintendo keep its head above water during the Wii U debacle.

I fully expect "experts" or "analysts" to talk about a huge failure if the Switch 2 doesn't sell as well as the Switch. That won't mean it's true, it'll just mean that, as usual, this so-called expertise isn't based on any perspective.

At this point, I just hope Nintendo has something to release after Princess Peach that I haven’t already played.

I would imagine if Switch 2 was suppose to launch this year, and their core teams are working hard on games for that console but are falling short, then they don’t have a whole lot in the pipeline for Switch in the back half of the year. (Same goes for larger partners who already aren’t putting much on the system anymore.)

For their core audience, at least, this is just horrible planning by Nintendo. If the reason is really that their games aren’t ready yet, then they should have been working on those games earlier. Apparently they’re lucky their console didn’t start to fall off in year 4 or 5, because if they aren’t ready after 7.5+ years to make the transition, I’d hate to see what things would have looked like on a shorter timeline.

So much this. Exactly how I feel about all this.

So are you suggesting this place isn't any better than the previous place?
I was just joking, but some people will always doom and gloom. It isn‘t as bad as the other place, outside of few people who do it intentionally most are just dissapointed.

I thought people were calming down a bit, did the "at the earliest" thing really get people riled up AGAIN? Notice that was what the partners said apparently not Nintendo themselves

I'm heading to bed; maybe I'll wake up to news saying that this was an early April Fool's joke and the Switch 2 will indeed be released this year.

To answer seriously - it is better, but this place is still a gaming forum in the same vein as Era, and GAF before that.

The same tired posting tropes will always remain. I'm not excluding myself from that either, it's just the way it is.

The specific wording here was "outdated". If there isn't a better device on the market at what it does (graphic performance per watt), it isn't outdated by definition.

Yes Nvidia could probably do sightly better, but it woudnt mean a world of differe
I mostly agee with you. If the final hardware is really what described on the nvidia leak then outdated IS probably not the appropriate wording . But maybe it could be a little more up to date but nothing that could make a Big difference. I think the node will be more telling.

But if it doesn't make a big difference, what value does being "up to date" bring? It's easy for people to tout that or decry being outdated, but of there is nothing better for similar price, then age is a moot argument

They can't.

And even if they could, you wouldn't get it in 2025, you'd get it closer to 2027 or some shit
Are you refering to the nvidia roadmap? Isn 't Thor scheduled for 2025? It s true that i don't know if a derivated Thor hardware dedicated to gaming would make a World difference...

These past couple of weeks have been really hard on all fans of each platform.

First we get leaks saying Microsoft is going third party which makes Xbox fans go into a spiral.

Than Sony's CEO says they want to focus more on multiplat releases which made PlayStation fans go into a spital.

Than we get leaks/reports saying Switch 2 is getting delayed until March 2025 which makes Nintendo fans go into a spiral.

Why does this year hate us all?
I almost said it's good that my secondary gaming platform is PC, but then I remembered that most big PC ports are terribly optimised so I don't win either.

I feel like I've gone through multiple cycles of grief already since yesterday, and the depressing late winter weather isn't helping either. Oh well, backlog time it is.

I just hope they wait with prime 4 at this point, because I'm kind of scared it will be switch 1 only at this point and I really would have liked seeing what it would look like with the switch 2- power behind it.

It wouldn't because Thor is a 4N lovelace SoC.

I was more thinking a 3nm Blackwell-based SoC

I don't know if the market overlap between people who play GTA6 and are huge into Nintendo consoles are that big of an overlap. The only problem is that GTA6 will take away the marketing spotlight from Switch 2 if they are marketed around the same time. But if there are some months between GTA6 and Switch 2 releases it should be ok although not ideal.

Don't you think that Nintendo is deliberately confusing the rumors about the release for this year and giving false dates?
Considering what Necro said about sources being from AAA publishers, this would be a very unlikely thing imo. It is one thing if they offed some small fry leaking publisher, but you can't mislead bigger fish like this without creating bad blood with ramifications I'd think.

This is where I'm at personally. The remasters/remakes do nothing for me so I'm hoping for a healthy amount of new software this year or else it's going to be pretty dry personally.

They‘ll confirm or deny it when they announce it.
yeah for sure, it’s just super weird how they haven’t done their regular direct in feb, delayed their partner showcase possibly because microsoft, and almost immediately after supposedly delayed the launch of their upcoming console. maybe something bigger is happening industry wide, even the sony news was strange. it’s all just hearsay anyway until we hear from the source

2024: chaos of the election year - part 1

is it ok to say Nintendo are leaving it too long & dropping the ball on the Switch momentum now? i know there's a contigent here that believe whatever Nintendo does is always planned & correct but surely more of us can agree this isn't normal and they're coming far too late. 2H 2024 was already on the late side as it is.

on the flip-side 1H wins (1H 2025). but who is to say they won't delay it further - 2H 2025, 2026. i hope the current leadership get a good grilling from investors as the next year is going to be Switch on literal life support if it's true.

There may be some grumblings but that's it. It takes ALOT to out corporate leadership. I still remember all the "Iwata needs to be fired" takes
