StarTopic Future Nintendo Hardware & Technology Speculation & Discussion |ST| (New Staff Post, Please read)

Did some of you all honestly think that Nintendo would launch a system right after the holidays in January and February? No company wants to launch a system right after people spent a lot of money over the holidays. Of course March was always going to be the earliest.

I don't even care if the device releases after One Piece or Dragon Ball Daima ends, I just want to know if the device really exists and what it looks like.

Shuntaro Furukawa at the Investors meeting: „…It takes a long time and thorough planning to get ready for new
hardware, and those plans are not impacted by whatever the latest business conditions might
be.“

One week later: Nintendo delayed Switch 2 to 2025.

I suggested a few weeks back that the 8 inch screen might be for a Switch XL and now I'm wondering if I'm going to be right. :p

These past couple of weeks have been really hard on all fans of each platform.

First we get leaks saying Microsoft is going third party which makes Xbox fans go into a spiral.

Than Sony's CEO says they want to focus more on multiplat releases which made PlayStation fans go into a spital.

Than we get leaks/reports saying Switch 2 is getting delayed until March 2025 which makes Nintendo fans go into a spiral.

Why does this year hate us all?

I could be misremembering but isn't that quote about the Switch 1's sales affect on new hardware? I think he was saying that the continued sales of the Switch 1 don't affect the scheduling for the new hardware.

Starting to feel like 2020 all over again, "gaming wise not pandemic wise" , so much for Nintendo having a smooth transition , the only time i probably touch my Switch is for Paper Mario and whatever Pokemon game in November

Current business situation includes Switch 1 sales, but the wording makes clear that also other things belong to that. Anything new? I‘m still catching up.

Regarding SEC8N, and the “T239 cancelled” rumours last year.

Is it possible they cannot handle the power draw/heat of a SEC8N T239, and decide to go with 6-10 SMs instead of 12? (Thus T239 “cancelled”) and make SEC8N possible.

I asked this because other people told me some nvda insider said the Switch 2 SoC is some SEC8N chip with 1280 CUDA instead of 1536.

Edit: add more insider Xs.

something feels off about this. it feels like some outside entity is trying to demotivate famiboards and by extension, nintendo fans in general LMAO. fuck this, i'm sticking to my prediction of an early march reveal. ofc nothing's confirmed 100% until nintendo makes an announcement. only if we go by march 2024 and no leaker confirms a march 2024 day then panic. until then i'm waiting

I also get that vibe. It all feels fishy to me.

Well looks like this thread is going to be useless unless something happens in March which i doubt now, this really irks my soul because after 4 years of anticipation we were finally so close to a more powerful Switch being a reality

Seems like every time we are "so sure" the system is right around the corner and about to drop we get dropped some really shitty news that it's now another year off. Must be how Mario felt after tackling those castles only to find out the princess was in another castle lol.

Regardless of everything that happened today, I just don't buy it. It all just seems like the flood gates opened out of nowhere to spell doom. I'm not naive enough to write it all off entirely but it just doesn't add up for me, so I'm remaining cautiously optimistic until we hear from Nintendo.

We literally just had one person claim Starfield was coming to PS5 and that triggered source after source claiming Indiana Jones was coming. Gears was coming. Some people thought Master Chief Collection was coming. Other began claiming that Day 1 on Gamespass could be going away... And none of that happened. It was all wrong.

Btw Mochis Japanese tweet, done at the same time as his "earliest in March" tweet, according to Google translate sounds more specific with "as early as March". While Deeply translates it to "earliest in March".

So the question is how did Mochi translate it himself and what does the original Japanese actually say?

if you were going to make up a fake rumor to catch leakers, this wouldn't be it.
Why not though? Switch 2 is the hot topic, from which every leaker wants a piece. Also wouldn’t it have positive impact if Nintendo revealed Switch 2 to come out in 2024 if all these sources say 2025. It‘s not very likely, but I wouldn’t discount it yet.

My Japanese isn’t good, IIUC it means “at earliest”

But yeah don’t read too much into it.

It’s arguably the most invested pocket of the internet wrt Switch hardware and its successor. Makes sense to me. We’ll move on soon enough
I mean, I don't think there's another place where people talk about Switch 2 every single day like us xD
It's not just how much this place talks about Switch 2, this thread is a lot more than that. This thread practically wrote a ton of what's known about T239, and still is (with the shipping data and such). This thread is so deeply versed in and has built such a trove of information around this console that most major gaming publications sound way behind the curve whenever they mention the specs of the system. I don't think it's too unreasonable that people are getting worked up over something this thread has put literal years into not just talking about, but piecing together. Check that OP, it was no small feat. The people in this thread have put in work.

So yeah, to have an odd, unexpected pivot this late in the game, just as it was starting to sound like we'd be at the finish line soon (a pivot which seems to contradict shipping data and tapeout timing, arguably), I think is worthy of some disappointment. I ain't saying we aughta be dooming and glooming and bringing the whole thing down, but I understand if some feel burned by this recent news after everything. Because some among us have done a lot more than just talk about Switch 2.

My interest in Switch2 has dropped significantly since I recently replaced it with a powerful GPU, but I can't help but be surprised that it will be in 2025.
It is possible that things may change in the future, but whatever the case, this console is cursed.

If any Nintendo employee reads this thread, please tell us that this rumor is untrue and without a foundation.

Anyway, I‘ll leave now and come back if anything new comes up. If it turns out true, I think I‘ll take a break from this thread until 2025.

I personally don’t believe the delay is due to software but regardless of the enhanced BC or strong launch, Redacted will more than likely be sold out since it is viewed as a hot commodity. Having said that a strong launch + pipeline soon after, much like the Switch will probably be for the best. I view the enhanced BC as nice to have but not really moving the needle. But we’ll just agree to disagree on this topic.

I mean that's entirely possible - this could all be due to manufacturing issues, in which case at least the devs will have more time to polish any launch titles.

At least we'll have a feature complete console, and a lot of polished, quality games, also third party pubs will bring more games thanks to the extra time they have now. Right ?... RIGHT ?!?

So is it correct to assume that the internal tech will be around 3 years old when the Switch 2 finally launches?

I would involve tricking large publishers, unless you say they are in on it to which is to much of a conspiracy theory for me.

Or the people that were told this all have the same sources. That is also possible.

For example, VGC, Bloomberg, Nate, etc, hear this from their sources, the same sources heard this from their company/Nintendo and spread the news; we get multiple people confirming the news because they heard it from someone and that someone is patent 0 (plural).

Sounds ridiculous, yes, but maybe not too shocking?

Sounds like peak coping to me.

It isn't, sources tied with some big AAA publishers already confirmed to "some of us" that those reports are indeed accurate
Did the sources say anything about the why? Do we know if the delay is tied to the software not being ready, or is it a problem with production?
