Discussion The Famiboards Fantasy Critic Thread (2023 in threadmarks)

Derachi with the early wild card!

I know we can all see it on the site but maybe it would be cool to have the info on who has picked what here too? I picked Elden Ring, @DecoReturns picked God of War: Ragnarok, @mazi picked Starfield and @Derachi picked Tunic. @frog maybe we can keep track of everyone's picks in the OP? It's your OP so it's totally up to you but if you like the idea I can also help you keep it updated
Good idea! I'll get on it soon

Feels like I am going to be the last to pick

Is it only for the 1st round or everytime ?
You are last to get the first draft but then you get to draft two games in a row. And you get first choice for counterpicks. Personally I think being last in the draft order is better since counterpicks are potentially more damaging to your score. There are plenty of high-scoring games in the year yet to be announced that can be bid on later.

BOTW2 is finally chosen! Presumably the rest of us did not want to risk it not making 2023, but the delayed game provision does complicate that math a little

I forgot about BOTW when picking games looool. And I also forgot about God of War not actually having a release date, just window lol.

I got that mixed up with Horizon. I shouldn’t have chosen so late at night 🥴

I'm going to make the riskiest picks in this, partially because I only know and care about Nintendo games

Went with Horizon for my pick since I wanted a safe bet to start out. Has a release date, is a known quantity as a sequel to a pretty acclaimed game and a Sony Cinematic Third Person Action Adventure (TM). Does feel slightly bad picking it since I don't have much interest in the game itself (since I don't have anything to play it on) but hey points are points.

But with how many people are in the draft and how few big titles look to have solid release dates in 2022 I'll have to start playing risky soon

Reminder that if you aren't in the muscles championship and are still interested in joining a fantasy critic league there is a second league in the OP

I have the utmost faith in the game releasing and netting me many points.
And if it gets delayed then I have one free drop
I was hoping to gamble on this one since the forum is so deadset on saying it is going to be delayed.

O its on like Donkey Kong

Wouldn't first pick everyone just go BotW2?

And is there a "Tentative game releases of 2022 list" out there?

edit:
here is one via Game Informer

and IGN

But I am assuming Indies will count as well, in which case I know what my top pick there would be 💅

Not in the Muscle game (first game) at least. Took us 5 picks to get BoTW2, probably because people aren't sure about the 2022 release date

DLC counts as a game release?
I made expansion packs eligible. (so big DLC, if say World of Warcraft or FF14 get an expansion this year that would be eligible) Should I reverse that? I can still pause the draft and undo my MH pick since there seems to be some confusion around that and I don't think everyone knew that they could go for the MH expansion.

I think it’s fine. Expansions get reviews too. Tho I guess if a dlc only got like 4 reviews and it’s all 100, you’ll strike gold I presumed?

Do all expansions receive adequate reviewer attention?

Because if not, I dont think we should count expansions. It could get very confusing, very fast, about which qualify and then how to deal w pick changes in the event u find out your expansion pick didnt really garner reviews.

On that note, I also suggest we institute a minimum "number of reviews" on a game to qualify? Or is that already built into metacritic? I.e. if its on metacritic u can be assured there are eg at least 10 reviews?

I think it'll be fine if we are all careful not to pick an expansion to a smaller indie game that won't get any reviews. This goes for obscure games in general as well. If you pick something too niche it probably won't get enough reviews to even be on the board. I think @Lichtsang has done this before lmao

Turned on Auto Draft, so if it gets to me while I'm asleep again there shouldn't be a long wait like last time!

My feeling would be not to include DLCs or expansions, as it becomes too ambiguous where to draw the line. But I'm happy to go with the majority

Will MPT change to MP1 remaster in the master games list once that is announced? If not I'll make that change myself, don't worry about it
