PlayStation the formerly Xbox exclusive title "As Dusk Falls" is coming to PS4/PS5 on March 7, 2024

On Friday 7th December at the 2023 Game Awards, it was announced that As Dusk Falls will be available for PlayStation 4 and 5 on March 7th 2024, with pre-orders open now on PlayStation store.

“Since its launch on Xbox and Steam last year, we’ve been immensely proud of how our debut game has been received by players and critics alike. We are now especially excited to bring ‘As Dusk Falls’ to PlayStation and its fantastic community that deeply enjoys cinematic narrative experiences.” said Caroline Marchal, CEO and Creative Director of INTERIOR/NIGHT. “We are leveraging the distinctive capabilities of the PS5 with Haptic Feedback to increase the weight of every decision and touchpad controls to make the gameplay even more intuitive. We can’t wait to see how new players will shape their characters’ fates in the world of ‘As Dusk Falls’ in the coming year.”

this always came off as a very strange title for Microsoft to push as a big Xbox exclusive, considering how small-scale it is. Caroline was a designer at Quantic Dream that worked on Heavy Rain and Beyond: Two Souls (the former of which was allegedly pitched to Microsoft back then, but was rejected due to it's dark storyline.) but the marketing didn't really acknowledge that much. they also still own the IP according to the copyright info on the trailer.

it appears the studio originally convinced SEGA (an even odder choice) to publish the game, but Microsoft ended up picking it up after it was dropped by them.

to make things even more baffling, the PS5 version is actually getting a physical release. even though the original Xbox version was digital only.

Be forewarned that there are a lot of plot threads that are left dangling and the game ends with a cliffhanger/teaser for an unannounced sequel. As Dusk Falls starts out a lot stronger than it ends.

No physical on Xbox sucks. I feel like the only hope for a physical for Pentiment is also a Switch/PS port. It is one of my favorite games of 2022.

a rather interesting curiosity considering the recent Xbox rumours. the publisher is explicitly "Xbox Game Studios".
the only other game on GOG listed as this is Psychonauts 2, due to it being a crowdfunded game that started development before Double Fine was bought by Microsoft.

other titles tied to Microsoft use different publishers. (Cuphead is self-published, and Ori and the Blind Forest is published by THQ Nordic. for example.)
