the associate to "Gimmick!", this game was similarly mostly locked to Japan with an obscure & rare localized release in certain EU territories.
Gimmick notably already had a sequel of sorts in the form of the inexplicably arcade exclusive (in 2020) Exact☆Mix, so it makes sense Ufouria would be next.

Is this a sequel, or a remake? It is titled Uforia: The Saga 2, but the video says "A full remake".

That said, the game looks super cute!

The first game was on Wii VC in NA, right? I've been meaning to play it for years and I thought I remembered purchasing it there prior to the Wii Shop shutdown.

From reading the press release, sounds like it will be a mix of a remake of the original plus roguelite elements with some randomized portions of level design in the Metroidvania map:

I was racking my brain trying to remember where I had seen the original before… I think it was shown off randomly during a Nintendo livestream in the Wii U era? Maybe the Treehouse streams during E3?? If that sounds familiar to anyone please let me know :/ It was on my eShop wishlist forever but I never actually bought it before the shutdown happened.

Anyway the art direction for this looks amazing, I’ll be keeping an eye on it!

The original is a super cozy game, looking forward to the sequel, art style looks great.

I still got a NES copy of this game,
it sold just a bit over 6000 copies in Sweden during the 90's

I hope the Sunsoft renaissance continues. I was pleasantly surprised to see even Arabian show up on Evercade recently.

release date, ports for PS5/Xbox Series are also being considered post-launch.

Japan (at least for now) is also getting a proper collector's edition. which includes a plushie, a pin, a mini whiteboard magnet, and the soundtracks for both this game and the original on CD.

Going head-to-head with Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, I like it.

The OG on Wii VC was dope! One of those NES games that felt ahead of its time.

The sequel is out now and there are quite a few reviews. Sounds like a relaxing gem along the lines of Kirby's Epic Yarn, art and music and whimsy included. That sounds wonderful to me.

On sale for $20. Did anyone end up playing it?

Ended up getting the Platinum trophy on PS5 back in March for this. It was quite enjoyable--with easy-ish boss battles that aren't too imaginative (relatively basic), simple enough platforming with fun abilities to unlock through purchasing them from an in-game vending machine. There's plenty of humor, self-referential and fourth-wall breaking that was really cute. Overall, I recommend it for $20. Was happy with my purchase at full price, even.

Thank you Phil! The bosses weren't too creative, but was the game otherwise pretty imaginative? I kinda got a Kirby's Epic Yarn vibe from a few reviews (which is like catnip to me).

Definitely Kirby's Epic Yarn with the art vibe. Not so much from a level design standpoint. The world is interconnected sort of like a quasi-Metroidvania-lite (the aforementioned vending machine upgrades at the hub allow you to access new areas alongside the additional characters you can play as), and levels/areas are relatively short experiences, but pleasant ones. There's some randomization in the areas too. Sometimes you'll encounter different layouts depending on a given visit. Overall, it's a relatively breezy but also enjoyable game. :)

Sounds like fun! Thanks for sharing your impressions. You've never steered me wrong yet! Excited to see the recent new articles on your site. 😀

Fingers crossed I still have some magic in not steering you wrong. haha :)
No doubt! I never got to tell you, I don't think, but I greatly appreciated all of the info you shared on Crash 4. I absolutely loved the game and it ended up being an all-time fave.

Aw, awesome! I'm glad you enjoyed Crash 4 so much!

(...You didn't go for 100%+, did you? haha)

It's such an incredible and creative game. We decided to go for, I think it was 50%, because that's what would be considered a really tough 100% in any other 3D platformer. So all main gems and all clear gems basically, plus flashback tapes. Just not time trials or the versions of the levels where the only difference is the wacked out aesthetic. It's been a few months since we last played so I may be forgetting some other aspect we included in our goal. But yeah, we played for 3 months straight and then set it down for a bit. When we revisited in December I think we ended up with just one clear gem left to get and a bunch of the mini flashback tape levels to play. Did you end up going for 100%?

Favorite levels included the dino dash, polar bear riding and the ice level with the time dilation. But there are countless fave levels to name in that game.
