Let’s not forget that Miyamoto also told IGN around Pikmin 2’s release that he already had things nailed down for Pikmin 3 and it likely wouldn’t be too long of a wait for it. Then in 2009 telling game media that Pikmin 3 was in development and finishing completion soon. We all know it didn’t release until 2013.

It is still selling quite well and on top of the Eshop charts in Japan. It has been having strong legs indicating good word of mouth. By all appearances it seems to be outperforming previous entries in other regions and markets as well.
