If a 2D Zelda drops this year, it will be a remake IMO.

It's better to save a completely new one for Switch 2 in order to boost its lineup.
Just saying, 2D Zelda has a history of releasing kinda late into the system's life. The Oracle games came out a few months before the GBA, Minish Cap came out weeks before the DS, Spirit Tracks released just over a year before the 3DS, and Tri-Force Heroes released a year and a couple of months before the Switch.

This is me.

"On one hand, yeah, Prime 4 definitely looks good. BUT I WANNA TALK ABOUT THE NEW MEGA MAN GAME THAT'S COMING."

"But what about Fire Emblem?"

"Yeah, yeah, angsty blue-haired dudes go brrrrrr, now, back to talking about the Blue Bomber...!"
NEW MEGAMAN GAME WTF I DIDINT KNOW ABOUT THAT OMFG!

I don't see why they wouldn't want to sell a new 2D Zelda game to a user base of 100+ million

It’s just good to pay attention to Pyoro. I know a year ago he didn’t leak anything super early, but he does now. When he didn’t chirp his beak away on Friday-Saturday; I didn’t expect a direct anymore for this week.

I honestly would like a remake of A Link Between Worlds from the 3DS. I never actually played it and I don't know if it is any good, but I just recall being really intrigued by its unique mechanic and always wanted to try it out.

I'd rather not have a remake of a 2D Zelda unless it's Zelda 1 or 2 (or FSA because of how hard it is to actually get and play nowadays). I want to see Grezzo actually tackle a new Zelda title for once, rather than a remake.

Would love a new Triforce Heroes. The original had excellent design hampered by poor Internet connectivity on the 3DS

We're two years away from the 40th anniversary, and when such would be perhaps more "timely". Yet, I'd still love to see an ambitious remake of either the first two games.

Grezzo can handle the first game, while Inticreates gets to live up to that longstanding desire to do the sequel.

The last non-remake top-down Zelda was over a decade ago, and even then it was heavily riffing on Link to the Past

So just speaking for myself, the next top-down Zelda being another remake would be pretty disappointing just on that principle. Nintendo should have Grezzo follow the Mercury Steam path and follow up a Gameboy remake with an original, brand-new game

The last 2D singleplayer Zelda with an original map turns 15 this year and I do not like thinking about that.

Same. I don’t want a remake of the Oracle games or Minish Cap. Those are on NSO and still play and even look just fine.

If it has to be a remake, try to do something wild like redo Zelda II. But I’d really prefer something new. The Zelda brand is hot and I think there would be a solid market for it. It might even be interesting to do the BOTW/TOTK Hyrule in 2D.

I'm sorry, it doesn't matter how irrelevant this post is in this thread, I just discovered that Peach talks when I hit "Yeah!" on posts with the Peach theme here, and wtf

I consider my lucky that I am always coincidentally absent whenever conversations about Fire Emblem (especially my GOATs FE4 & FE5) flare up with some… interesting… takes about those games (or just flat out misinfo).

Option 3 all the way. Yeah sure, main characters staying in character is nice, but I'd rather have a weird take on Mario as a character if it means the world around him doesn't become generic idealized nothingness for another decade.

The Twitter user re that above posts is supposedly (on their Twitter bio)

though looking at a thread on one of the old places it seems that this person doesn't have much of a track record at all, so safe to disregard even beyond the unlikelihood of stacking June then August.
