Anybody else ready to break up with the Jet Squelcher? I recall we had lots of fans from Splatoon 2 here. Angle Shooter isn't doing it for me. And the Ink Vac is an occasional GG button in Splat Zones, akin to Sting Ray in Tower Control of yore, but more often than not it feels overwhelmingly low impact in the barely coordinated team fights of random ranked matches.

Ima Hydra main now!

Just started with Story Mode and there is already a very cool reference at the beginning when starting up ORCA:

Another update. Best Buy couldn’t help me and told me to call. Tried calling five times but then am told they cannot take my call and to try again later. Finally after pestering Best Buy support on twitter got in touch with me today around noon. Said they got in touch with their gaming specialist to issue me a code. No code yet. Reached out again and was told they don’t know when they’ll be able to issue me a code. Well fuck.

Ok after trying to play in bed last night and then playing more today (and after 100+ hours in Splatoon 2] how do you all sit while you play? The only way that works for me is upright and leaning forward, kinda hunched over the controller. The second I lean back my ability to do anything plummets. I’ve never asked anyone else but like am I doing something wrong or all the squids out there also struggling with proper Splatting posture?
I also sit hunched forward like a shrimp and i'm not proud of it. ✌🏽😔
I do occasionally add a cushion in my lap so I don't bend forward too much.

I'm so sad they changed the look of the sploosh when you shoot it, it looks a bit more misty which throws me off.

Anyways I'm also a splattershot main, its just very well balanced even if I haven't gotten fully used to the trishooter special!

Post-story: That last level is absolutely brutal. It took quite a few tries, especially during that last section, but I did it! I was so mad several times when playing it but I do feel grateful when Nintendo puts in an absolutely brutal postgame level for folks to try to tackle.

They butchered carbon roller so much holy shit. You can't even kill with a horizontal flick unless you're inside someone
It's exactly the same as it was in 2 actually. The parameters are exactly the same, it has been datamined.

That said if you never played 2 much and just remember how the carbon was in 1, yes, it got butchered compared to that and used to be even worse back when 2 first came out.

Okaaaaaaay I thought this EXACT same thing but wasn't sure if I was feeling a little too nostalgic or not lol.

Hell when you get to Splatsville after the tutorial they play that drum beat before the fade into the game logo. So cool.

They know what they're doing......

Finished the campaign! Some thoughts:

  • The levels are way more creative and varied than I thought, you don't really know what they'll be about until you're actually playing. Definitely helped by how many weapons and items the game has, they have so many possibilities and they make good use of them.
  • I'm glad they don't really gate progression too much, some people don't like "rushing" through games but I like getting to the end as quickly as possible and then do all the other content. In and after the third island I pretty much did none of the levels, so I still quite a lot of things to do.
  • Deep Cut! Avatar quote etc. but I love them so much. Wasn't expecting them to be "villains", even if just for a bit, so having them as bossfights was shocking (even though it was obvious they'd end up being good). Haven't ever bought Amiibo but if they ever do a Shiver one I'm getting it ASAP.
  • It was surprisingly difficult? It's very likely I'm just bad at the game but I struggled to beat some levels and pretty much all of the bosses except the first.
  • This really goes for the game in general but man idk how they pulled off visuals this good on Switch while maintaining perfect 60FPS. Definitely a contender for best-looking Switch game.

My only reason to purchase Splatoon 3 was the multiplayer so getting such a great singleplayer campaign alongside is really nice and it elevated my opinion on the game a ton. Will definitely check out the DLC Expansion whenever it releases (and the Octo Expansion one day I guess)

It may not be as evident in the levels, but in some of the more complex areas of the Alterna hub the technical improvement over Splatoon 2 is quite dramatic in terms of how much detail is crammed on screen while maintaining a locked 60fps and a sharp resolution.

Splatoon 3 is definitely one of the best demonstrations of the Lunchpack engine so far.

S50 Japanese player, sherutan. He said he played about 22 hours a day the last 3 days. Sherutan is the player that usually teams up with chokopero in the monthly league. The dude is crazy, really crazy.

If you want to see the framerate drop, just play Salmon Run at a high hazard level and pop some specials during the chaos at high tide. I think it's usually CPU slowdown, though.

I’m salty after my first encounter with Cohozuna.

I realized what I was supposed to do too late into the wave.

And now I have to work my way to him all over again over a bunch of matches.

folks have mentioned that Install Base has confirmed this but here are ZhugeEX's tweets on the matter for additional context and verification

I'm loving Tableturf mode... has anyone discovered what upgrading your cards do? I've noticed I can use my doubles to enhance cards... what gives?

It just looks cool. Once they add multiplayer you'll be able to show off your deck to other players

I gave an honest effort to the motion controls this weekend but kept getting worked. For some reason (my ineptitude), I always look at the ground during engagements.

It didn't feel like a mouse and keyboard "keep working you'll get better" sort of thing, more of a "when you were learning shooters on consoles there weren't motion controls and you are too old for this" sort of thing lol.

It sucks because I know motion is the way to perform better, I just can't make my brain do it.

Started single player yesterday. Played for 4h in a blink.

No one told me it was a super mario bowser fury kind of game.

Man, the media in general has a lot of prejudice against this game. It really feels a 10/10 single player campaign .

Has anyone got motion sickness playing this or 2? I've never felt that playing 2 but I'm feeling it a little after playing for more than 40 minutes with this one, specially the SP.

My partner, who handles the multiplayer well, was a little motion sick after playing the Zipcaster level in single player. So maybe try some multiplayer, given the stages are all arenas it may be more grounded.

Have you tried adjusting the sensitivity? I felt the same way at first but after a few days I'm noticing some improvement. I'm using around -2 for the gyro sensitivity, and +2 for the stick.

I really like tableturf mode but I have no idea what I should be doing to make my own deck
Really fun though but when online comes I’m probably gonna get destroyed

I've left them all on defaults but I can make that my next experiment I guess!

The foundation for 3 is so, so good. After 2 years and meaty DLC's this game will be one of the best Switch games when all is said and done....

I don’t know what it is but more than any other online shooter I’ve played it feels like so many of what should be hits in this just don’t register.

Most Splatoon weapons have either some or a lot of RNG with where the shots go. It gets worse if you're jumping (especially with certain weapons like blasters), and the effect is magnified by distance for weapons with multiple pellets. Personally I find that it just underscores/enforces the weapons' intended ranges, rather than making them inconsistent, but there may be exceptions.

I finished hero mode. Enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than Splatoon 2's, but the grind rail sections still gargle hairy balls. Is there any use for power eggs in the post game?

man this game is great, I've done everything in alterna besides the bonus level and if that was the whole game I'd still be satisfied. can't wait to spend more time online though, I've only played a dozen or so turf wars and 3 ranked matches lol

I was so delighted by the mario sunshine manta storm callback! very cute, odd reference.

I love how
In Splatoon 2 and now also 3 you collect golden Salmonid Eggs for Mister Grizz so that he can produce his fuzzy ooze to create mammals again and the bossbattle with him was glorious. But it truely seems that all other mammal life apart from Judd are really gone...

Range plays a big role along with spray pattern, if you want almost no spray pattern, try the N Zap 85, it also covers the floor nicely to move around easily as an ink kid.

Almost forgot, the splatter pro I'd also an excellent choice, loner range, and almost no spray does wonders.

The fire rate is a little bit on the slow side, but is a great choice for those who play a lot of fps, and the sub weapon Is amazing for long distance damage.

You can spend 999 eggs on the Sheldon drone in Site 1, and a day later it will bring back items (like Ability Chunks) for you to pick up at the terminal. I think it only unlocks after you clear all the stages? Or something like that?

Okay. Thanks. I had a quick look around to see if there was anything new added, but I only saw the replay credits/etc. options.

Yeah I think that might have been it, I've tried a few different weapons now and they seem a bit more consistent than what I was using. Thanks.

Have people seen this image from the developer interview? Love how you can see Octo canyong and Octo valley, Hamerhead bridge and even where Agent 4 is from (and Calamari County were the squid sisyers are froM)

How hard is the secret post-story level? "Inner Agent 3" levels of hard or is it manageble?

It's not as tough as Inner Agent 3 but is much longer with several checkpointed sections so on average it will probably take longer to complete.

This game is hecka good-looking. Only brief moments of fuzziness, but it looks native 90% of the time. Might be temporal reconstruction. So much detail in the stages too.

Also, despite thinking the single player is a big improvement over 2, I've mostly played online xD . Going between Turf War and Salmon Run is very noice.

The matchmaking in this game is really weird. I'm A rank and I keep seeing players with S+ badges in series battles.
