News Ninja Theory founder no longer at Ninja Theory. (Also Hellblade 2 is 30fps.)

So this is s little unusual. Buried in an article talking about how Hellblade II will be 30fps, it was stated that Hellblade studio Ninja Theory's founder Tameem Antoniades left the company. And the only reason this was found out was because press at a preview event didn't see him around and asked where he was.

And that's not specifically odd, given that executives at companies acquired in mergers often leave within a few years after the merger. But it is unusual in the sense that Antoniades was not just Ninja Theory's founder but a director/producer on most if not all of their titles, and his departure wasn't even given a press release. It's not even publicly known how long it's been since he left, and I imagine most Hellblade fans assumed he was still there working on Hellblade II.

Not that he hasn't had his share of controversy. He was involved in DmC, including the poor PR that pissed off fans, as well as a GDC presentation about the game that made some wildly homophobic comparisons between OG Dante and Brokeback Mountain, among other poor taste takes.

It's also possible no PR was given due to whatever reasoning there was behind his departure. But yeah. He's been gone for some unknown span of time and Hellblade 2's development is being headed by a team of three.

The fact we're only finding out about Tameem leaving now, of all times, is honestly kinda bizarre. Combined with how long this game has taken, even with Covid, it honestly feels like a bit of development hell.

Also if they really cared about cinematic bullshit, they would have allowed people to run the game at 24fps in a 120Hz container. That would ACTUALLY be relatively novel.

There was a GQ article a while ago where Tameem was talking about the "anxiety" of becoming a multimillionaire after Microsoft bought out ninja theory.

He's also got some sort of VR interactive psychology experience he's finding at the moment which, again IIRC from the same article, says he's had his entire London apartment mapped out in VR.

Dude has made the techbro money and is now pursuing that techbro lifestyle.

Can’t say that’s really a surprise? The ps5 and series x are not super computers. Eventually devs were going to have to choose between visual fidelity or a framerate. As is typically the case in big console games, visual fidelity won out

Maybe he got lost in his VR apartment and stopped showing up at work.
