Rumour Kotaku: Gearbox is in the final stages of leaving Embracer

If the last couple days have been the days of layoffs, today was the day of the devs getting the hell outta Dodge

I do wonder who they're gonna end up with now, given it sounds like they're looking for a buyout and not going indie.

You've heard of industry consolidation, now get ready for industry un-consolidation.

Seriously, we might be seeing this start to happen. Toys for Bob, Saber Interactive, and now Gearbox splitting off from their owners. Remedy purchased the rights to the Control IP from 505 Games, and From Software purchased the rights to the Elden Ring IP from Bandai Namco.

If I'm a gaming studio head, I'm doing everything I can to split off from other companies before my studio closes as a cost cutting measure.

Wonder if 2K might make a move seeing as they have Borderlands publishing rights, and with the movie coming out it might make sense to lock that franchise up.

As someone who has always enjoyed the Borderlands games definitely hope wherever they end up, it gives them full freedom and comes with as few layoffs as possible. And good to see more companies escaping the embrace of death.
