9. PS4 Saints Row - 10,013
10. PS5 SD Gundam: Battle Alliance - 9,625

This is definitely a PlayStation dominated week. MK8D reaches 4.8 million. Soul Hackers 2 barely clears 50,000.

Hardware:
Nintendo Switch family (includes OLED Lite and OG) 113,530 (this week), 2,878,418 (YTD)
Switch OLED 87,321 (this week), 1,539,014 (YTD)
PS5 (all varieties) 25,109 (this week), 668,010 (YTD)
Xbox Series 16,726 (this week), 189,616 (YTD)

Massive week for Splatoon 3 OLED, PS5 has a good week, and Xbox had a fantastic week, they're going to sell over 200,000 this year and getting closer to beating Xbox OG.

When will that price bump for PS5 get activated? I expect a huge drop in sales, Japanese audience does not respond well to price increases.

Since availability is still an issue, I'm guessing there will still be enough Japanese players and overseas buyers for the system to sell out each week. Now software in the long run however....

The PS4 versions this week outselling the PS5 version just doesn’t bode well.

I still don’t think the situation is going to change until Sony either throws down a mandate or the PS4 is no longer a “well we’re making a Switch version so why not?” option.

Won't make a difference short term because of stock.

Edit: Hardware, software will continue to stay middling.

This was the best week 35 on record for NSW thanks to the Splatoon 3 themed OLED release.

Nintendo had to come back down to Earth eventually

hopefully they saved the fuckload of money they made for hard times

I'm sure they have enough savings to survive this and the next week until friday. If not, Furukawa definitely will take a paycut to help out in this timeframe.

That pandemic bump wearing off
Also is the 6th year and there is no hardware mover like Animal Crossing and MH:Rise had in 2020/2021, is the best selling console in it’s 6th year ever (quite better than DS in fact the 2nd best). Nintendo has already used all games that move hardware, only traditional game used to move consoles missing is a new DQ mainline game but DQ userbase is probably already on Switch anyway between DQXIS and spin-offs

I like how what was essentially “the hard times” for the majority of the human race was a boom period for Nintendo.

MH World feels like the last time there was a 7/10 Sony performance including the #1 spot. Good for them, but every time I see multiple PS4/PS5 games chart, it just raises more question marks about why it's become so rare. It's not like there aren't millions of PS4/PS5 owners in Japan.

The fact the console is fugly and huge might play a part.
Being new in the Minidisc world and seeing gorgeous designs by Sony it baffles me how they came to the ps5 quite frankly.

My assumption is that the size/form factor are a direct function of the cost/manufacture considerations. Making something that powerful that was smaller in Fall 2020 would have been hard to sell for $500.

wonder how the word of mouth will be for MiA. I've seen some videos of the game being a bit buggy
wom will probably help this game (in addition to the anime running at the moment, fantastic btw). I have not seen any outlet with reviews or previews (the game comes out tomorrow) and yeah based on footage It looks very janky. Being at 60$ might be steep for some.

Things will only get worse until a new model is released i think.

I honestly don't get this kind of doom and gloom posting.
Is it a desire to see Switch lose steam because you want a Pro/successor ASAP?

Because the Switch is on track to equal or best 2019, it's third year, in it's 6th year, and that is incredibly strong sales and nothing that calls for concern.

I mean, it just went from miracle performance to regular good performance. Nothing wrong with going back to not being untouchably dominant

But it's still both the bolded. It's so, so much more than "regular good performance"

You should wait 2 weeks
Then you'll see what a miracle performance looks like

How can be best third year in Switch history regular performance though?O_O That would mean any other year is just weak performance then.
Right, for 2022 Switch will sell close to 5m in Japan and around 21m Global, that is still very high and not regular at all. Consider that PS5 sells around 1m a year in Japan and 21m is Gamecube's lifetime global sales in one year.

And let's not forget that literally every model has been selling out for more than a month now, it's not even just the OLED anymore that faces shortages.

Amazing what a fresh coat of paint can do to a piece of hardware, it even made me sell my old Switch and get the SpOLED. Breath of the Wild 2 next with a limited edition Drake, please? Thank you!

Now I'm very curious what the next 2 weeks will do if hardware is moved in such a way with the game not even being out. Splatoon 3 might end up being the highest selling entry after all (not thanks to its marketing)

Oh god make this a thing.

EDIT:

Do we know the Xbox breakdown? Curious as to how the S is doing.
Yes, Xbox breakdown is:
Xbox Series X 10,044 (this week), 81,284 (YTD), 154,575 (LTD)
Xbox Series S 6,682 (this week), 108,332 (YTD), 163,699 (LTD)

I assumed the doom posts were jokes... was I wrong?
