Strikers already at #13. Nintendo can't be happy about this right?

I wonder how its doing in western markets.

I am also happy to realize that "3D World + Bowsers Fury" became a million seller.

I'm sure they wish it was doing better, but prior history would have told them not to expect much from japan

Okay Strikers didn't bomb confirmed , 3rd best selling game in NA without digital

Only in Japan it has underperformed

really glad for NLG, hope they are working on improvements.

Kinda feared that their first project as a Nintendo first party studio would bomb.

Does football have as much cultural cachet in Japan as in other places outside of the US?
It is the 2nd most popular sport, but there is a big difference in popularity between it and Baseball and probably the difference isn't big between football and other popular sports like Tennis. When it comes to Strikers the issue isn't as much the sport but also the type of game it is and presention, it might be too 'western' for a Mario Sport title for the JP public

The Japan national team and foreign leagues are extremely popular, but the J-League lags in popularity behind the the domestic baseball leagues. Rugby is experiencing a huge boom since the world cup was held here three years ago. Now nearly every international between major teams is covered at least on the subscription channels. I'd love there to be a Mario Rugby game in future, but I don't think it would sell well in the USA, so it's probably a non-starter.
