Impressive legs on Kirby

I did not expect Kirby to hold up quite this well, that’s awesome!

Also feels weird to see a 2017 game charting in the JP weekly charts but Zelda keeps on trucking. Great game.

Kirby did fantastic. 71% drop is a good hold considering how high the FW sales were.

Ok, now Kirby has outsold Elden Ring in Japan
Kirby eats Tarnished for breakfast. And possibly other meals.

Good PS5 hardware sales, let's see how software did when they release the top 30
304K hardware units sold in Japan and not a single title can even hit 5,101 units sold? No need to wait, PS5 software situation is awful. The attach rate is <1.

Two weeks in a row PS5 has sold 30k+ but no games (that aren't new) have been able to sell more than 5k in either of these weeks , this doesn't speak well for the state of PS5 software in Japan. Because if 60k new consoles are in the market they should at least buy some game like GT/ER but both of the games sell have sold less week after week even with the number of units sold every week doubling from 15-16k to 30k

Maybe they jump on the digital side for PS5? (Makes no sense to buy a console just to admire it, considering it is awful looking IMO).

Or digital sales are represented in the chart as well?

Like many have said before these PS5 appear to be scalped to other places
But worldwide PS5 are also being scalped and in countries like UK and Spain most of the PS4/5 split its in favor of PS5 in some cases heavily . There is more than just PS5 being scalped , PS4 was already struggling in 2018/2019 outside of the big franchises (FF,DQ and MH) and some surprising hits like Spider-Man and GoT . It’s a combination of scalpers, rise of f2p console games and the poor state of PlayStation software in general.

Why is Switch hardware so low?
It’s actually ahead of 2019. It’s more like we’ve gone from weirdly high to more normal ranges.

Digital sales aren’t counted for the chart, but 1) Japan has always skewed physical and there’s no reason to believe they suddenly jumped to digital with PS5, especially when physical Switch games are selling gangbusters and 2) PS5 digital sales would have to be selling crazy high if we want to believe PS5 software has actually been doing decently beneath our noses.

Nintendo 1st party games tend in Japan to have similar digital splits to PS games and even sometimes they have a higher digital split than PS games due to vouchers and how expensive some games are Japan in retail.
Edit: This could change with the PS5DE but it’s only around 17% of PS5 sold right now and even if PS5 software sold a 17% more (which of course isn’t realistic) the numbers would still be really poor

third parties really need to create some games to get people interested into playstation
Why would they do that ? If you create a game focused on Japan at that point you make it a Switch game (which is what we have seen with Japan focused games from Konami or Bandai) , only if Sony pays for the game to exist it would make sense to do so but it doesn't seem to be something Sony would do nowadays.

Why is Switch hardware so low?
Well it's year 6 and past it's peak. Not much to talk about other than to say that it will clearly enjoy a very healthy tail end of it's life. The OLED is propping up hardware sales to such a degree that it's outperforming 2019. The base hardware itself is reaching saturation, but the OLED model will recapitalize existing users until the next model/successor.

Why is Switch hardware so low?
The OP misses some data. Old Switch and lite sales numbers are similar to last week, only Oled saw a decline. This is a strong hint that it probably just sold out on many places. Anyway still record sales numbers for a console in its six year.

PS5 Software sales are awful. Why publisher even bother selling PS5 games in Japan?

I don't usually copy the OG numbers but you're right: 21,304 (this week), 21,784 (last week) 423,088 (YTD). OLED last week was 49k so declines are mostly in OLED which is the primary driver of Switch sales.

Mmm... Interesting, I hope we get digital sales of the PS5/4, I know that even Nintendo do good sales on the eShop in Japan, I would assume that 70 usd games are far more expensive there in Yen, so, digital would be the way. Sony pushes way harder digital sales all over the world.
Now I really wanna know! 🧐
