As expected, Super Mario Wonder will be a monster in the holiday sales. Warioware might be gearing up, too.

... wait a damn minute, Pikmin 4 sales are up too! JP will be hitting 1M sooner than I thought.

And one last thing: looks like the man did not, in fact, erase his name

lookin’ like pikmin 4 will reach 1 milli before years end! those cute commercials really did the trick. also happy to see SMBW up this week, hopefully it’ll get some consecutive 100k wins!

switch HW on the other hand… first week of the holiday season and at 70k. not terrible considering it’s deep into it’s lifetime, but still crazy to think some people are saying a successor is unnecessary with holiday numbers like this.

Honestly these Switch HW numbers are not good for the holiday season. If it continues to stay flat it will be a real struggle to reach 15M for this fiscal year. Hopefully it isn't as bad in the other markets.

The comparison versus previous holidays is only 'bad' looking at the last 2 weeks and it should be obvious why that is: Nintendo usually launched their major selling holiday title in mid November and that's almost always Pokemon; this year they had their biggest seller launch in October with a mid-tier launch in Pokémon's usual spot.

The key comparison is going to be this December versus previous years, especially the last 2 weeks of December, which is a big sales period for Japan. As it is, I've always been interested to see if 2023 could outpace 2019, and it looks as if, next week, 2019 will finally overhaul 2023. A lot of Switch titles posted bigger numbers this week, suggesting we're seeing a small upswing as December approaches.

Chris on installbase posted
The lack of mega November title means Switch hardware will follow different sales pattern from last few years when it missed the big December peak. Since real holiday period doesn't begin until the end of November better hold with the posts for big YOY decline and imminent Switch 2 release because there will be again many backfires.

We're just now barely creeping into December and the console is in its 7th year.

To be fair Nintendo seems to have recognised this reality, even Furukawa has said that hitting the target 15 million sales will be a hard challenge to do for them. They know Switch interest is declining fast everywhere.

That Switch performance this time of the year, compared to other years… 🫠

Granted, there’s still the rest of the Holidays, but pretty much everyone has a Switch
I said it would happen, that 2023 would track way above 2019 but it would concede massive amounts in November and December then fall behind. Holiday sales can't compete with previous years because not enough Switchless gamer's to sell the Switch to.

Holiday sales will decline that is certain, here's how i think it will decline versus last year.

Japan: 2.09 > 1.57 (-25%)
Americas: 3.07 > 2.45 (-20%)
Europe: 2.42 > 1.94 (-20%)
Other: 0.65 > 0.71 (+10%)
Total: 8.22 > 6.67 (-19%)

Year over year "Other" was 250k up in FYQ1 and 110K up in FYQ2 so i expect it to be slightly up in FYQ3. If it does sell what i predict (6.67m) then it would only need 1.5 million in FYQ4.

My sentiments exactly. But if there's any data Nintendo can consider, is that the console replacement market is big enough to give an aging brand some breather.

So does anybody know how Mario RPG sales compare to other switch games? Really hope it’s doing well

I was on holiday in Japan last month and I knew pikmin was more popular there than other regions, but I really was surprised how often I saw marketing (or even merch) for it, especially this long after launch! My wife even noticed and mentioned it, although she's never played Pikmin.

Ads running on trains and subways were very regular, along with Wonder and SMRPG. They even had these pikmin themed "Guess the object" ads running that change every week where they zoom in close on sections of a treasure (e.g. an Ocarina) and countdown until they reveal the whole object and what it is. Was very cute.
