this would have likely saved gaming "discourse" for the better had it actually made it out, Infinite Warfare rather infamously had severe backlash directed towards it's setting. with it's trailer becoming the most disliked Youtube video for a bit. and the flames fanning into a war over Battlefield (then going into a full recreation of World War 1) being the "superior" title,
at least until the criticism loop™ completed, with people tearing into Battlefield V instead for being "woke" as it featured a few women fighting in World War 2, but that's really a story for another day.

once that initial controversy rolled over. people eventually realized Infinite Warfare wasn't even remotely that bad. with it notably having one of the better single-player campaigns in the series. and the next yearly installment rolled back into using historical settings again regardless.

as for the footage itself, former Neversoft director Brian Bright provided context for the project. noting that the studio pivoted from making Guitar Hero games to this shortly after Infinity Ward initially imploded (not to mention the market for instrument peripherals drying out around the same time.)

I still don’t understand, why do/did people hate infinite warfare when it was shown off?
