StarTopic Splatoon 3 |ST| The Mammal with the Three Golden Eggs (World's End Splatfest announced)

Seriously why can this happen
unknown.png

What'd be your ideal Salmon Run rotation (without Grizzco weapons)? For me I think:
1°) Explosher, specialty: Flyfish / Stinger / Mudmouth / Flipper / large walls / revival / horde assist
2°) Dynamo Roller, specialty: Glowflies / Cohock / Chum / Smallfry / Maws / Cohozuna
3°) Splatana Stamper, specialty: everything, especially hugging Cohozuna
4a°) Squiffer, specialty: Steelhead / Steel Eel / Drizzler / Slammin' Lid / Chinook / Griller / Snatchers / revival / horde assist
4b°) Splash-o-matic, specialty: Big Shot / Scrappers / Flipper / ground / small walls / eggs / survival / horde assist
Stage: Gone Fission Hydroplant
Specials: Booyah Bomb / Crab Tank / Killer Wail / Triple Inkstrike

I kind of wanted to include Dapples because it's an amazing weapon but maybe it doesn't do quite as much as the others especially since Dapple's best quality is shredding lessers and Cohozuna which the rest of the lineup already does extremely well

I think the game is better off without Hammerhead Bridge. In its current state it isn't very fun in any of the modes if you ask me, not even when you're winning
i thought it was great as a tricolor stage but yeah it is really not much fun the rest of the time

Sounds good, though I would replace the Splatana Stamper and add the regular Splattershot or the Pro, maybe switch the Dynamo for the Flingza and definitely remove the Triple Inkstrike and add the Wave Breaker or the Ink Jet (or both). The Triple Strike and the Reefslider are the most useless specials for Salmon Run, imo.

Had a match last night where we stopped the timer with 1 second left, and proceeded to win off of that one push.

Replay code: R71D-3TAB-6HMR-7U9V

Feels fitting to have a match like that on the map people here were just complaining about lol

Maybe my memory is fuzzy, but I don't remember anyone complaining about Hammerhead in S1 outside of RM. So I am still somewhat disappointed they changed a very fun map drastically and it ended up being a miss. I almost feel like the map would be better served not being called Hammerhead because it has very little in common with the original.

I'm so relieved the Splatfest is next weekend and not this one. That's more time to finish up Bayonetta 2 and get back to scrubbin'.

every fucking map they changed they made worse

I don't fucking get it. they obliterated hammerhead, fucked up museum, shrank mahi, and are fucking shortening flounder heights. why would they do this? how did they do this? you'd think they might improve a stage just by chance

Nintendo clearly wants the meta to be focused on 1v1 fights with less opportunity for strategy, which I understand but deeply resent

Yeah, it feels like they are afraid of big, open maps.

Maybe is a frame rate issue? Smaller maps = fewer stuff to render the farther you are?

BRING BACK PIRANHA PIT UNCHANGED!

I swear I'm okay and not being held hostage and forced to play this game

How many hours do you have logged so far?

Final impressions: so i have really enjoyed the game to what I think is the maximum enjoyment (obviously multiplayer). Single player was good fun where I learned some basics, while it was engaging and fun; multiplayer shines. Turf war is great; unfortunately salmon mode is where this game shines. The player vs environment is something I tremendously enjoyed (similar reaction I got with gears of war 2 horde mode, me and my brother played for endless hours). To play with a group of randoms and win is something special (especially when everyone sticks around in the group because they played so well together). Great moments. Sadly I think Its almost time to start my next game, however this game will probably be played like Mario kart 8 (on occasion for some quick multiplayer).

I need everyone to use my official title from now on
Eggsecutive VP

Anyone have any tips so I don't get demoted in record time?

Keep doing what you probably did to get there: Don't be afraid to blow your specials on Wave 1 and 2 at the vaguest sign of trouble. Ranking up is all about consistently getting to the third wave and then hoping you luck out with a freebie round like Mudmouths or Tornado. And even if you don't, chances are your teammates probably saved all of their specials. So if they're ever gonna use them, it's gonna be on Wave 3.

435, and I'm not proud of it!

You make me feel better about reaching my fourth catalogue on the same day you did your fifth.

Was doing well on Salmon Run last night until I encountered 3 randoms none of whom knew you have to shoot the egg extraction pipe on the mothership. I had the roller and ran out of ink and screamed at my TV until our eggs were depleted :) My cries of "this way" going unanswered...

Shiver's argument clinched my vote for Team Two-time Two-time Splatfest Champion because she made me realize that I, just like her, am fond of water types but when it comes to starters tend towards Grass.

Nintendo are dropping the ball with support for this game like they did with New Horizons.
Explain? They set a clear roadmap of content every 3 months, with a minimum of 2 years of support. The game hasn't been out for 3 months yet, so we haven't received our first content update. How are they dropping the ball?

I told myself I would go for Water types since they have my favorite starters in almost every gen... but I ended up joining Grass. To be fair I do love Snivy.

They aren't, but trolls gotta troll.

New Horizons was inconsistentent in its update rollout (likely because of the entire pandemic thing), but it also ended up having significant support. If that's dropping the ball, i wish games dropped the ball more often tbh.

they definitely aren't dropping the ball but honestly I don't care for the new update model either

I would've liked a new map by now

I wouldn't say they've dropped the ball, but I do feel that the rollout plan is a bit slow for my liking. Having no splatfests/big runs, new maps, or new weapons for all of October definitely contributed to me slowing how much I'm playing recently. I expect for those who don't play as frequently though, this set-up is probably fine.

They didn't set a roadmap, that's the exact problem. Everyone went in expecting a spltatfest, new weapons, and a new stage every month like what 2 got and we appear to be getting less than that overall and what we are getting is not well telegraphed and is distributed far less frequently. The content rollout is both way slower and less clearly communicated. Maybe the big updates will make up for that but we can't know that right now because they have been playing their cards so close to the chest. People were justifiably disappointed that there wasn't a Halloween splatfest for the first time ever when these games have been active and we still can't be sure if Big Run is even happening this season.

They... Set a roadmap in the direct before the game released? They specifically said when content was gonna drop and how?

This is the conclusion I've come to as well. For people who aren't Splatoon superfans, occasional Splatfests and periodic content drops will probably benefit retention in the long-term.

A roadmap is both information about future updates and a relative timeframe for them. Only the new catalogs and Big Run got both parts. We were informed that additional maps and weapons would come eventually but were not provided any timeframe and in the absence of that information players assumed it would match Splatoon 2's monthly update cadence (and likewise with Splatfests). There has been no communication since the direct more than 2.5 months ago about when this stuff might come. If they had just told us to wait until the next season people would not really be bothered; not knowing when something will happen naturally produces anxiety and frustration.

A lot of peoples are confused about this but it's actually really simple:

The game is getting a total of 8 seasons (one every 3 months), we are currently on the first one, the second is coming Dec 1st.
And every seasons, we get a new batch of content. (Map(s), catalog, gear and ect...)

Yeah, in my experience playing GaaS sometimes hardcore and sometimes as a casual, if the update pace is just a bit too slow for those who post about games on forums, it's usually just right.

But in Splatoon 3's case specifically it does feel like we're still seeing the long tail effects of running behind schedule during development which, if the team keeps playing catch up, would continue the uncertainty well into the future. That's not to say the shift to a seasonal model isn't deliberate. My guess is they have collected data that shows them engagement is better with big drops rather than many smaller updates, but the communication of what we can look forward to when was probably planned to have been more clear.

My point is that they never actually said this and 90% of the complaints would not exist if they had. It's the exact same problem New Horizons and Mario Maker had, good content updates harmed by poor communication. If it's going to be a while, assure us that it will be worth the wait rather than let us stew in our own anxiety

they totally said this at some point

I'll try to find a sauce but I knew from the direct that all new content would be tied to seasons

They did said this, even dataminers corroborated it.

They did not specify basically everything would be tied to seasons (they didn't mention maps or weapons), however it's a reasonable assumption, and I don't think saying "we will do a big content drop every 3 months for at least 2 years" is poor communication whatsoever. We know things are coming and when.

So everyone who disagrees with you is a troll? Come off it.

I don't know about the support since anything relevant is yet to happen, but the base game is quite disappointing overall. Bad maps, lingering balancing issues, absolutely dreadful netcode... Splatoon is one of Nintendo's flagship license, and after 5 years, one could have expected better for such a cash cow.

I mean, you keep saying this but in this same thread you have a bunch of people that did get the memo that all content was tied to seasons. Not sure what more you want here.

there is a very small band on the playerbase spectrum that cares enough to demand to know what's coming but doesn't care enough to be terminally online and know it's tied to seasons

you're mostly right but I feel like this is the most balanced splatoon has ever been in terms of weapons. the poor stage design confounds things a bit

They did say from the beginning that weapons would be added around the same time as new catalogues.

Timing for stages and other updates were up in the air though.

the coolest thing I've ever done in this game is still sneaking around hagglefish with e-liter to take out the other team's e-liter on the perch

more stages that let you be cool would be greatly appreciated
