We've had Detective Pikachu. We almost had a Zelda Netflix show. We're about to get Super Mario. And with the establishment of Nintendo Pictures, it's obvious we'll get more. So of all the studios and directors, who do you think can nail the tone for certain Nintendo series.

I propose that Gennedy Tartakovsky, the creator of Dexter's Lab, Samurai Jack and more importantly Primal, is the only individual I would trust to bring Metroid to the big screen all the while keeping little to no dialogue with a hostile tone.

Other scenarios that I think could work is Studio Trigger doing Xenoblade, Aardman Animations doing Pikmin and/or Kirby and of course, the not happening in a million years scenario, Ghibli doing Zelda.

I wouldn't mind seeing Madhouse, the studio behind the classic boxing anime Hajime no Ippo a.k.a. Fighting Spirit, get a title bout with a Punch-Out!! film or series.

I think I've said it before but it bears repeating:

Tomm Moore and Cartoon Saloon for Zelda.

This will never happen but I don't care

Zelda with Edgar Wright. Sony Columbia Pictures or Sony Animation. Don‘t care if it is life action or animation, it just has to be Sony. The reactions would be gold.

Fuck yeah, if we can't Ghibli then Cartoon Saloon is the next best thing. They could even do Wind Waker and tap into its Irish influences.

Genndy with Metroid. The most obvious pick of them all. The problem isnt dialogue or not, the problem is doing an exquisite narrative while doing doing as little dialogue as possible, that's something the vast majority of filmmakers simply cannot do.

Ohter than that, nothing to say.

Strictly animated (current franchises getting games):

-Wit Studios (Ranking of Kings) or Kyoto Animation (Hyouka) for Kirby and/or Animal Crossing.
-Pierrot (Black Clover) for Fire Emblem (the older games), Ufotable (Fate) for the newer games
-Trigger for Splatoon (Not to sure on this one, they are good at keyframes nice for splatoon)
-Khara (EVA Movies and Fire Emblem Echoes lol) for Xenoblade

Outside of Gennedy for Metroid, the only animated studio that might try something with it would be in the style of Casshern Sins, fantastic work, and it was done by Tastsunoko and Madhouse.

Zelda/Mario idk.

Call it Metroids and give it to Cameron. He can fit it in between Avatar sequels.
Considering Cameron's collaborating with Weta on the Avatar films, that's now got me thinking about Peter Jackson doing Metroid.

Like, old-school pre-LOTR Peter Jackson.

First thing to come to mind is Mike Flanagan doing Luigi's Mansion and now I can't stop laughing at the idea.

Animal Crossing by Werner Herzog
Luigi's Mansion by Jean Rollin
Urban Champion by Tsui Hark
Time Twist by Luigi Cozzi
Super Princess Peach by Jean-Luc Godard

Dario Argento for Famicom Detective Club
Ridley Scott for Metroid

Coming full circle

I love these ideas conceptually, but have you seen their recent work?

Considering his work on Samurai Jack and Primal, I would trust Genndy Tartakovsky with a Zelda show.

The only movies Genndy Tartakovsky have made are the Hotel Transylvania series. Be careful what you wish for.

For Luigi's Mansion, I would pick Henry Selick (Coraline, Nightmare before Christmas, the upcoming Wendell & Wild.) I would give him pretty free reign.

For Metroid, I would give it to Takahide Hori (Junk Head.) Junk Head was a stop motion masterpiece with a made-up language, and it balanced grotesque and distopian imagery with propulsive and appealing energy. And the whole movie was incredibly well executed as a one-person show, so I think he could do wonders with a strong team around him.

For Animal Crossing, I would pick Shin-Ei Animation (Crayon Shin-Chan, Doraemon, Pui Pui Molcar.) I could see multiple tv and movie projects that are in the style of any of those mentioned titles.

Takashi Miike - Famicom Detective Club.

Or Sion Sono (I know about the news of him being an abusive asshole, it's just conceptually anyway)

My wish list:

  • Sunrise (now Bamco Filmworks) for a Xenoblade anime series since they are already well-versed in hard science mecha with Gundam and Patlabor.
  • Orange animation studio for a Star Fox series. They already showed their proficiency in animating anthropomorphic characters (Beastars) and contributed to the 2016 SF Zero ONA.

This would be perfect and I’m sad it will never happen.

Edelgard/Fem Byleth movie set years after the events of Crimson Flower where Edelgard has given up the crown and they’re just two old ladies living in a cottage. Directed by Céline Sciamma.

Very off the wall, but I think James Gunn could make a pretty decent Captain Rainbow project. I think he'd be very good at getting human moments from the very wacky, while also down and out cast.

Science Saru is a studio that I believe could make a very good adaptation of Shin Onigashima.

I abhor the idea of live action Nintendo stuff but if I must I'd give Zelda to David Lowery and give him complete artistic freedom.
