Discussion Tales of Symphonia Remastered launching early 2023

Symphonia is one of my favourite games, but I seriously doubt they've put in the work to make this worth a purchase. Ideally the battle framerate would be back up to 60, the character outlines would be restored, and the skits would be voiced. These are almost certainly not going to happen. The PC version will probably remain the version to play. It can't fix the framerate, but is able to address the visuals and make it so that the otherwise voiceless skits use the Japanese voices while everything else is in English.

Well to be fair the Vesperia Definitive Edition did add English voice acting to stuff that was previously unvoiced in thr 360 version (& only voiced in thr ps3 Japan version, therefore only Japanese voice acting existed for those sections).

Is it likely they're gonna do that again here? No, not at all. But it's not out of the question, at least.

I’ll wait for a sale but I’m in so I don’t have to break out my gamecube for it

I’m sorry

“COURAGE IS THE MAGIC THAT TURNS DREAMS INTO REALITY”

Funny enough, the story isn't even my biggest problem with Dawn of the New World. It's the gameplay, They RUINED the combat system by having Emil and Martha the only permanent human party members that can level up.

That was something that irked me too. The old cast were stuck on lvl 50 and the monster capture/raising/evolving was actually pretty decent, but I like the other partymembers better.

Good lord, February is absolutely brutal. And this is not even the only Namco game that month....

I'm sorta losing my mind at the screenshot in the tweet.

It's a situation that's impossible to replicate in the actual game. Zelos and Kratos are only in the party at the same time once in the entire game and at that point Lloyd doesn't have access to his Mystic Art yet.

Same week as Labyrinth of Galleria & Theatrhythm and the week before Octopath Traveler II. The only way it'll be crazier for me is if Konami reveals the release date of Suikoden I & II HD is around the same time.

Namco shared this (This is from RPGsite), and these specs are wild lol. Capping it at 1080p is an interesting choice.

I know people dunk on Symphonia 2 all the time but I kinda liked it ? It wasn’t perfect at all, absolutely and yes @BY2K is right ; having only two human that can level up is kinda crap, especially once you get some monsters, you keep them for like a massive portion of the game until they can’t hit anything correctly or support you enough.

Then there’s the overworld missing. Since it’s a direct sequel, knowing what happens at the end of Symphonia, I always DREAMED of exploring this whole new world and… you just look at a map and point at a thing and… there. Wow.

The story is all over the place and basically most of the plot is a giant plot hole since it’s using tons of things that are supposed to be known for ages in either Tethe’Alla and Sylvarant but was never mentioned in the first game.

And the first game covers 4000 years !

Stil, I liked some of the -finally- voiced skirts ; Tenebrae is a cool sidekick with lots of humor. The battle system was much faster and allowed to freely explore the battle zone instead of being forced into a linear axis. Having subtitles for the battle quotes was nice too. The soundtrack is pretty good, even if it reuses and barely change 75% of the first game, the battle themes are awesome -especially the final one-.

There’s also two endings ; depending if you manage to kill a character during one of the final boss encounters.

It’s a sequel that should’ve been much more than this. It’s also the best argument against people who wants a sequel of a game that have nothing more to tell and to explore after the ending.

So between FE Engage and Octopath 2. Brave strategy.
I don’t think this will matter, while they are all long JRPGs they don’t necessarily have the same audience. Symphonia is an action RPG while FE is SRPG, Octopath is a turn based game made for the people that prefer pre-FF7 games. There’s already a lot of JRPGs during Q1 2023, I’m not sure what other date they could have got. Either way they all belong to different subgenres so they don’t have to worry about that. If anything, what would hold it back is stuff like the value (same price as the PS3 port but no sequel), 30 FPS, no new content compared to PS3/Steam, ugly red logo, being featured in one of the worst Directs. This will probably still do fine like Vesperia but I wish it had even more enthusiasm, it’s a special game but it’s already being written off by the modern gaming audience due to stuff like 30 FPS

It’s a pretty clear downgrade in almost every way (especially scale) compared to the first game but I still had fun with it because the core is still there, it’s fundamentally a fun game. In my book it’s easily the best out of the lower budget, asset reusing JRPG sequels out there, I’ll make a thread + poll about those someday. I’ll take it over something like FFX-2 any time
