News Nintendo Direct Mini: Partner Showcase announced for June 28th

I had to tend to work and missed everything so far. So:

  • Metroid Prime HD holiday game 2022
  • Metroid Prime 2 and 3 are both coming, not as much work put into those games compared to Prime HD, but both should come out before Prime 4
  • Possible 1st-party Mini in July, or smaller announcements here and there throughout July to cover the rest of the year before the September Direct

Do I have that all right?
Yes!

They also speculated that the incoming announcements for this year might not have been enough all together to warrant a General Direct. So this tells me that Bayo 3 and Metroid Prime Remaster is most likely all there is left to announce for 2022, with Advance Wars being the big unknown.

Bless Grubb for salvaging this week

First-party news possibly being pushed to July is lame as hell. Just why. And what does it mean for September?

Nothing Jeff Grubb said today is new. Emily has told us a while ago that all three Metroid Prime games will come to the Switch.
He just had to drop us a plate of some of the ol' reassurance

Since I'm #TeamJuly guy, I'll say I'm fairly confident there's no Nintendo-focused Direct coming shortly after tomorrow's Partner Showcase.

But if it happens, this post doesn't exist.

Mario 3D All-Stars was emulated, not the same as redeveloping the game from scratch a la Majora's Mask 3DS. So Metroid Prime 1 could be the complete remake and if 2 and 3 are emulated, running in 60fps on a higher resolution then those could be bundled for $60.
That is what people expect Prime 2/3 to be

So probably

July Mini Direct for first party
August Direct for Splatoon 3
September General Direct

I'll take that, and would fit perfectly what Jeff already told us in early June, doing smaller showcases trough the summer.
So it's basically Nintendo Summer Game Fest.

People are already taking Grubb out of context. The July Mini was all speculation on his part. The Metroid Prime announcements was his inside information.

But that's the thing... If Nintendo plans to give Prime Remastered a decent marketing cycle and they plan to launch it in November, July would be the month to do it. September is just too close for an announcement. Unless they announce it on Twitter, which i doubt

Nobody is taking him out of context. It had already been acknowledged it seemed like speculation on his part for the July mini

You got that right
Oh BABY
Pretty much. Sounds like it'll be a very near-term focus, marketing wise, this summer. That's fairly usual for Nintendo but we've seen them (including in 2021) willing to talk about things that are further out at times.

Makes me wonder if Zelda is just about going to make the fiscal year. Get your 'smaller' announcements out of the way this month and next; anchor your holiday season around Splatoon 3, Pokemon, Metroid Prime HD, and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope and have that line-up confirmed by mid to late July. Do a Direct in late September, and maybe reveal the Zelda subtitle and release date for late March 2023.
This sounds like exactly what Nintendo will do. And that's a pretty great, varied Holiday lineup, all things considered.
So probably

July Mini Direct for first party
August Direct for Splatoon 3
September General Direct
This would be very cool. Basically finish out our 2022 schedule more or less before summer is over, then leave some 2023 megatons for the September Direct (and maybe a Zelda port if that isn't announced in a Mini, though I think that would be perfect timing in the July presentation)

I like to believe they're showing now 3rd parties due to contractual requirements and partners' pressure. Meanwhile we wait a bit more and they'll show 1st party titles (and some more demanding 3rd party games) later, alongside a new hardware unveal.

I mean this is not too out there is it?

Damn so maybe Nintendo has so many amazing upcoming 3rd party announcements and so may great first party announcements they had to split it into two directs to save us. Could you imagine the hype if P5R, Nier, BotW2, Prime DE, etc. were all revealed in the same direct?

Ah...

Be still my beating heart.

At this point I just think September. July feels strange they could always just tweet a date for Advanced Wars & Bayo3

They did 2 month marketing cycles for Paper Mario: The Origami King and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity, so it’s certainly not out of the question.

I'd be pretty surprised if we see a general direct before September. My thinking is -

- Nintendo wants to maximize their NSO Expansion Pack re-subscribes each year. The service launched last October 25th with N64, so they'll want to announce a big addition a few weeks ahead of subscriptions timing out to keep people in. Announcing GB/GBC (maybe GBA as well, but I'm not optimistic) in a September direct seems like a clear way to achieve this.

- With their releases planned out through at least September (Oct-Dec still likely has at least one new announcement), I think they want to hold off from revealing new big titles before their current announcements have a chance to sell. I would've been very surprised if they did a direct in early June, given new big announcements could pull attention away from Strikers and Three Hopes. Now again with Xenobloade 3/Splatoon 3, I don't see a clear reason to announce another big holiday Nintendo game before people have bought into those titles.

A Splatoon 3 direct in August, followed by a general in September with a reveal of Prime and a look at some 2023 games seems the most likely to me. Also still on my hands and knees for the next Fire Emblem to make it out soon, but my hopes are down today.

Prime could theoretically be saved for a September announcement, but that seems like an extremely quick reveal-to-release window for a game that basically every source is saying had substantial work put into it. If Nintendo truly wants the Metroid franchise to grow in mainstream recognition and sales, a turnaround time closer to Dread (4-5 months) makes sense.

So I'm guessing these two are very likely from what we've heard:
  • Mario + Rabbids Sparks of Hope teaser with release date, tune in tomorrow to watch a full demo playthrough
  • Persona

And a mix of some of these:
  • Bayonetta 3 (might be saved for a first party direct if one is happening soon)
  • Dragon Quest Treasures
  • Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster
  • Final Fantasy Tactics
  • Front Mission
  • Hollow Knight Silksong
  • Hogwarts Legacy
  • Kingdom Come: Deliverance
  • Portal: Companion Collection
  • Tactics Ogre: Reborn

The major port rumored could be Nier or Red Dead.

In my dreams we'll get Ace Attorney 7.

My two cents, Prime HD is the last major 1st party holiday release Nintendo needs to communicate to us, and it’ll be released in November or December, with an announcement at the September Direct, everything else Nintendo needs to communicate for the time being can easily be done through Twitter, such as:
  • Mario Kart DLC
  • Mario Strikers updates
  • Switch Sports updates
  • Splatoon 3 Direct
  • Advance Wars release date
  • Bayonetta 3 release date

Yeah, I know I'm coming from a privileged perspective since I'm able to own a Switch and Xbox, but 3rd party on Switch generally does so little for me because of game pass. Can't get excited about Automata when it's been on Game Pass for like 2+ years. But Mario + Rabbids and any surprises have my interest
Same

But I have pc and ps5 too

This all makes sense and aligns with what I believe is happening. Mini First-Party in July to go over existing games, and announce Metroid DE, Wind Waker HD, and next FE + announced games. All big games but nothing earth shattering. Normal Direct in Sept with bigger games, like DK, Zelda update, etc.

I feel like 3D All Stars was so unceremonious, though. The upgrades were minimal (and I say this as someone who is grateful for the collection on the whole). Xenoblade DE had a September 2019 reveal and a May 2020 release -- would a loving remaster/remake of one of the greatest games of all time only get 1.5-2 months of advance notice before release?

Nobody is taking him out of context. It had already been acknowledged it seemed like speculation on his part for the July mini
His speculation hasn't been terrible. And he was the one who said it sounded like(paraphrasing) Nintendo was splitting up it's stuff into smaller things. We had the Xenoblade direct. Now this partner showcase. Sparks of Hope supposedly on Wednesday. I think we somewhat expect a Splatoon direct unless there is some 1st party mini next month.

You can't be the one to say it's flawed unless Nintendo outright says Bayonetta wouldn't be in a Partner's Showcase. It's third party property developed by a third party developer so as far as we know it could be fair game.

And going back to the Live A Live example, that's also different because it's not published by Nintendo worldwide. Nintendo is publishing Bayonetta 3 in all regions which is different from both the LAL and Rabbids examples you used.

The initial exchange between you and that poster was this:

You cast doubt on Bayonetta 3's status as a first-party game, I simply pointed out that Nintendo classifies it as one. That's the part that is flawed in the argument.

As for the second part of your post, I'm not sure what your point is. They're obviously different. That's why I mentioned them.

Grubb didn't mention if MP 2 and 3 would be separate releases, only that they're separate from 1 Remastered. They could still be a bundle, and honestly, I don't see any other way Nintendo could sell these games.

If Nintendo aren't sitting on Everybody Stinks of Horse: Return of 1-2 Switch, then that's either a trailer drop or a Mini announcement, too.

Personally I'd prefer another Mini to isolated trailer drops. Makes it easier to plan purchases and so on.

Do you know what EA stands for?
As in literally or company values? I just like BioWare’s rpgs and would like to play those again on a portable as it’s the only way I’m likely to run through the saga again these days.

I have no clue, this is Nintendo.

If we are getting all three then I won’t feel bad about not getting the trilogy on Wii U then

This sounds right to me. Nintendo doesn’t place much weight on release dates as big announcements, so I think it’s very feasible that they just give us a new trailer with a date at some point in July for Bayonetta 3.

It's based on insider speculation.

Didn't he say that Prime 1 is actually finished and Nintendo plans to launch it this year? Was that based on information or speculation? I thought that this was insider information and based on that he thinks that Nintendo will probably reveal it soon so the game will be properly marketed. The part about Metroid releasing this year looks basically a lock, whether or not they will have a FP Direct to announce it remains the question... I agree with him, i think the game will have a reasonable marketing schedule. If anyone was confused about my post, ok, here's the clarification, there were both parts of speculation and insider info in his speech

I don't think they'll be a first party mini Direct at all, certainly not in July. It'll just be Twitter announcements or game-specific Directs until the Sept Direct.

It makes literally 0 sense to split up 2 Directs for late June and July.

July is the bit I have not been able to confirm/verify, yet. It seems possible/likely but don't have any clear indication of it being a thing at the moment.

I am trying so hard to summon Street Fighter 6 Switch Pro version into existence.

Red Dead 2 chances are close to none when the leaker of the 2018 game has said it was a 2017-2018 game
