Discussion Nintendo has established 'Nintendo Studios' and 'M Brothers Productions' for visual content production

"M Brothers Productions" is kinda interesting as it suggests a big focus on more Mario themed movies. I guess DK movie must be next.

I imagine future Nintendo movies will also involve Universal since they have a strong working relationship between the Mario movie and the theme parks, and Meledandri is even an advisor to NCL.

My guess for film adaptations after Mario would include Donkey Kong, Zelda, and other possible Mario spinoffs like Yoshi or Luigi's Mansion. Given how early this all is, I wouldn't be surprised if they choose very surface level IP that have broad cultural recognition.

M Brothers is probably specifically Miyamoto and Meledandri as producers, not "Mario brothers."

Also, people are getting way too ahead of themselves imagining future movies.

Meledandri is mediocre, just enough for a mario film, but for anything else, hooo boy.
I doubt illumination will be involved with anything not mario, and even then mario specifically

In which way?

I wouldn't be surprised if DreamWorks made their own Nintendo movie but overall I don't think they'll stray from the Universal bubble to other film studios.

i love dw, but that would be quite a different project. Perhaps i havent given enough thought to it, i wonder which project would be better suited to them...

And yes, i agree they most likely wont leave universal.

Pikmin shorts like Pixar shorts at the start of each movie and everything'll be just gravy

A Xenoblade anime would be fantastic. Make it happen! Especially one based on X.
I think that a Xenoblade anime made by KyoAni with the style of animation they did for Myriad Colors Phantom World could be really great, those battles were smooth. And let’s be real, KyoAni can’t make anime without fanservice and Xenoblade is one of the few Nintendo IP that could lend itself to it.

Or maybe they could go the opposite way and do a cute & fluff Animal Crossing anime in the vein of Maidragon.

OMG WAIT I JUST REALIZED HOW TO DO A LIVE ACTION ANIMAL CROSSING

THE JIM HENSON COMPANY!!

Follow the old Muppet adaptation formula of having one live action main character (the villager) and all the other characters be Muppets. It could work.
Today that could be a billion dollar idea or bomb so hard that it leaves a creater the size of the moon. There’s no in-between.

The M Brothers LLC is probably specific to this movie as I think that’s fairly common?
It is indeed. Short term LLCs for specific productions is the norm (for good and bad reasons) - it creates a company that exists usually for a single production, and carries the insurance, hires contractors, owns anything that is purchased for the production, and then gets dissolved/mothballed afterward.

In almost any large movie but especially adaptations of previous IP there are so many stakeholders and associated rights involved that you basically need to establish a company that owns/licenses everything so there is a single responsible entity, legally, without an rightsholder (like Nintendo, in this case) having to cede long term rights to another company.

In this case, it's also animation, and unfortunately, animated films aren't covered by the same unions as live action films (or even any union, in many cases). The LLC becomes the hiring party for the non-union work and contracts out the union work to the parent studio. This lets everyone keep their union chocolate away from their non-union peanut butter.

There’s a chance that “M Brothers Productions” is just a shell company made specifically to avoid paying taxes and royalties derived from the film’s profits. It’s an stablished practice in the industry.

Here’s an explanation in video format:

If they make a DK movie, then there’s a non-zero chance of it having a “DK Treehouse Productions” involved with it.

Nintendo fans: "Awesome, they're gonna make a movie out of all my favorite franchises! Animal Crossing! Metroid! F-Zero!"

Nintendo: "We don't want to be sued or taxed"

Going to give you one even one step further.

This is a concept that I have had for like 15 years now and every once in a while I try to will it into existence as I have storyboarded this in my mind several times when I go for a jog while listening to Zelda music lol.

Jim Henson Company presents......... The Legend of Zelda: Majora's Mask

The vibe needs to be in vein of Dark Crystal and Labyrinth, with more to the latter since even at its darkest, LoZ is still light.

I want that so bad it hurts. It is the one entry in the series that lends itself to that, and the one entry where they can get away by mixing actual actors with muppets and pull it off. You can have a human muppet and an actual human interacting, and say, "that actually checks out".

Hell, Link can be a human and when he transforms, he is a god damn muppet.

Fuck, it is the one game in the series where you can have a musical number (Deku's and their palace are prime for this!) and actually fucking work.

And considering the star of the game, aside from the overarching narrative of Skull Kid and the titular mask, is actually Termina itself and all its citizens, this would make a perfect 8 episode one and done series.

I doubt they are diving right into making movies. They will probably start with making cutscenes, film shorts and ads for their games and youtube channel. I'm sure this foot into making their own TV shows and movies.

I can see them making their own:
Mario Movie/Show
Luigi shorts either with ghosts or doing other things
Donkey Kong Movie/Show
Splatoon show for their youtube channel
Pikmin shorts
Fire Emblem Anime possibility
Kirby Shorts/TV Show revival
Animal Crossing Shorts
Star Fox Shorts
Legend of Zelda shorts with Toon Link and possibility of a Zelda show/movie.
I doubt this is to make their own stuff but a way to contract these things to be made by other studios

Metroid by Titmouse or bust!

Nintendo shouldn't limit themselves to Japanese content makers
Of course. Still sad that the Dark Horse Arms comic never came to be.

Also for as much as people pick Metroid as an easy target I actually don’t think it is. Unless people mean easy to screw up or be something that probably they won’t enjoy.

the problem with metroid is that it takes a very specific person coughGendyTartakovskycough to make fans' expectations a reality. the more accessible route would to be establishing world and characters in a way the games never do, save for what Tanabe attempts.

Can't wait for:
"My Mushroom Princess Is Taken To Another Castle"
"My Hero Monastery"
"Fire Emblem Z"
"XenoBlade Art Online"
"Plumber X Family"
"Is It Wrong To Pluck Pikmin In A Distant Planet?"
"Luigi's Mansion Shippuden"
"My Little Kokiri Can't Be This Cute"
"Ikametsu no Yaiba: Woomy Slayer"
"Bounty Hunter X Bounty Hunter"
"Ashita no Mac"
"City Hunter: Showing the Moves"
"Tengen Toppa Great Fox Lagann"
Dude.

Dude.

Pretty much. Though I would be amused to see the one by the Castlevania anime team.

Powerhouse should do Fire Emblem or Xenoblade Chronicles X. the westernisms would fit well with them (the medieval european world design of FE and....everything of Xenoblade X)

Jim Henson Company doing Star Fox would also be incredibly obvious

genndy IS accessible. People forget the amount of shit he has done for sony.

Anything metroid related will not come until retro finishes and releases mp4 anyway. there stime

He can be but while shit like Samurai Jack and Primal are critically acclaimed, they're nowhere near accessible as Dexter or Hotel Transylvania and the like. Metroid might have to be limited to compensate

What do you mean by ''limited''. Also i really dont think dexter was more popular than Samurai Jack. Story sells. Hotel Transylvania was an absolute success but it definitely wasnt some award winning and its what i mean by ''People forget the amount of shit he has done for sony.''

Its possible Genndy would accept the task, yes.

Ah, the beautiful art of avoiding taxes. Makes sense though, it's quite feasible that's the reason.

I mean limited as in limited series, like Primal was. fully realizing a metroid show would be pretty expensive, and given how the tenents of metroid is that isolation feel, don't think you can make too long a piece of media. even Aliens had a lot of things going for it that Metroid doesn't despite being a big inspiration, namely a cast of characters. I do think Metroid can have its cake and eat it, namely like Samurai Jack has done. it would just mean that the world of Metroid would have to greatly expand

Dexter's Laboratory was one of Cartoon Network's highest-rated original series for years.[62] Internationally, it garnered a special mention for best script at the 1997 Cartoons on the Bay animation festival in Italy.[63] In 1998 and 1999, a Dexter balloon was featured in Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade alongside other iconic characters, including the titular piglet from Babe whom Christine Cavanaugh voiced.[64][65] The series was part of Cartoon Network's 20% ratings surge during mid-1999.[66] On July 7, 2000, the series was the network's highest-rated original telecast among households (3.1), kids 2–11 (7.8), and kids 6–11 (8.4), with a delivery of almost 2 million homes.[67] On July 31, 2001, it scored the highest household rating (2.9) and delivery (2,166,000 homes) for a Cartoon Network telecast for that year.[68] Dexter's Laboratory was one of the network's highest-rated original series of 2002.

For me I think something like the Metroid manga would be a good starting point or at least Samus in her early career post Galatic Federation split. Probably would give us the most compelling Samus to write for.

I meant overtime. I can totally believe it got way more views than jack at the time, but jack ended up as being the most memorable one.

Something something "takedown notices from youtube"... I hope they finally put up game soundtracks legally on Spotify/Apple Music/Youtube Music. (There's probably going to be some exceptions, like Xenoblade Chronicles X.)

They have said for multiple times they want to venture in other media than just video games. I feel like this is not a coincidence they are expanding as fast in terms of theme parks. They are probably waiting a bit to see the first reception to the Mario movie to announce other projects. But you can clearly tell they are making sure the Mario movie it's right. They paid A LOT for the actors, got a deal with the best animation studio when it comes to worldwide appeal, which is what Nintendo is known for.

Seriously out of the 3 big companies, they have by far the best IP for Hollywood. It's satisfying to know they are doing it, but again Sony has already 2 movies out and like 4 new projects already and MS already has the Halo series as well.

Mario movie is for sure going to be successful unless it's really bad. Hopefully they are taking their time with a lot of test screening before release since it's the key to all this.

Zelda can be a perfect candidate for a more fantasy approach. We know they were on a deal with Netflix.

Metroid can be a god amazing movie about sci-fi/space aliens. This spot is wide open in Hollywood and they should greenlight this NOW to match the release of MP4.

And they can do a crossover later on if it works à la Smash but with only their characters of course. Maybe with Sonic who knows.

But this is just a no brainer for their new business model. Their IPs are so well known already, just give it a good chance with people that care and are talented and you got yourself a money machine.
