It still seems edgy, I feel like it's turning into "eating crackers" meme. The single player in Aces may not have been the RPG people wanted, but it had a ton of characters and courts and played great, And Waluigi now has an awesome new animation, but people want a crotch grab. It just seems silly.

And the still stand by that the shadow council part is tin foil hat nonsense. With Paper Mario, what he said is they had leeway with original characters. And of course, internal EPD can do what they want, and heck, Mario and Luigi had the same weird off center quirky designs as always until the end.
I mean I agree with you but people see what they aren’t getting & try to pin the blame on something, which in this case is the shadow council & still to some degree Miyamoto.

As for Tananbe it really seemed like he was trying to redirect the blame elsewhere. But that is another conversation for another day.

Next Level Games are animation wizards, they're definitely one of my favourite Nintendo studios nowadays.
Strikers is peak couch multiplayer fun, and with the added online features this is easily one of my most anticipated releases of this year. Can't wait!

I said it before with the extensive localization of trailers, but Strikers is orders of magnitude beyond the other Mario sports games in terms of marketing. I'm really curious about how it will do at launch and what kind of legs it will have.

Strikers for GC is my favorite football game. Everything so far looks great. Hyped for new characters and stages.

Yeah, my assumption since the reveal was that this would likely follow the format laid down by Camelot's titles on Switch, because that's led Tennis and then Golf to unprecedented success for Nintendo. Plus, I imagine these sports titles - even though they don't do huge numbers - are one part of Nintendo's efforts to keep people engaged with NSO. Perhaps the content roll out post launch helps with that.

Mechanically and visually it sounds great, and I'm happy for fans of the series that this is back. Hopefully some good stuff comes along in the content rollout, but this isn't for me.

Really curious about the online private match customization options as well as if there's any different ways to play strangers online. Would like a way to play without the hyper strikes and also a way to play that removes non team specific item boxes. Basically I only want items that are caused by hitting players who don't have the ball.

For as good as Next Level Games is with visuals, it’s kinda surprising that they’re…not the best when it comes to UI. I’m doing the tutorial right now and these menus and all just do not have the typical Nintendo feel—it feels more third-party than first-party when it comes to UI, honestly. The text boxes and Fútbot’s character portrait are entirely static, the text just appears suddenly with no animation, and the font, text size, and everything like that just feels off…

Of course, that doesn’t really affect the actual game much, but it is surprising, especially coming from a now Nintendo-owned studio. Anyone else feel similarly?

Since we are campaigning for characters....

Give me Koopa Troopa, Nintendo. He has been my guy since Super Mario Kart. Don't leave him out of this!

Not really. For better or for worse nintendo's studios arent a single entity so of course there will be differences.

Next Level Games UI work has been bad since forever honestly.

Also, the tutorial part is more EA than Nintendo. I didn't like it at all, really boring with all the repetition. I just quit after the third lesson. Just let me play a quick match and discover all these things by experimenting myself.

Most studios that Nintendo owns seem like they keep the same style as before really, so it’s not surprising especially when development started before Nintendo bought them.

I loved Mario Strikers Charged Football and we knew that Battle League Football would be significantly different to CF.

Nonetheless, I obviously had high hopes for BLF, and having played the tutorials I’m very glad to see a lot of new, great gameplay ideas and that the gameplay is not overly simplified at all, as one could have worried due to some removed gameplay elements.

While I don’t really care about the roster, it‘s sad to see that it appears that there‘s not a lot of singleplayer content at launch (just a tournament mode, judging by the First Kick download?), but the excellent gameplay convinced me that this will be an outstanding Mario sports title again. Very excited!

Also, here‘s how the scoring in Clubs appears to work: You have 5 clubs in one League per season, and all (up to 20) club members contribute to the associated club‘s points (it‘s probably just the sum), which decide the ranking and whether your club for example promotes to a higher league. Winning a match nets you 6 points, a draw 2 points, and losing a match leads to contributing one point. It‘s a similar (yet in many details different) design idea like the one of CF‘s online mode, where contributing even if losing led to a lower amount of frustration and rage quits (which, similar to most Wii games with competitive online mode, weren‘t punished in CF, if I remember correctly).

Next Level Games 🤝 Monolith Soft
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀messy UI
I dunno, personally I’ve never had a problem with Monolith Soft’s UI. But then it has been a long time since I’ve played any of their pre-Switch games so maybe it has improved with their more recent games. But, to me, the UI in Strikers almost feels like something from, like, Ubisoft or something.

Getting used to the gameplay (first time Strikers player). A lot to like about it. Just wish the shooting felt…better?

Even so, the vast majority of Nintendo’s published games, regardless of who developed them, still have a distinct “Nintendo” feel to their UI presentation and all, while many third-party games noticeably…don’t. Strikers’ UI feels more third-party than first-party to me in that regard, which is a bit surprising, that’s all.

well that explains the ice powers

my problem with Monolith's UIs is just they use so much positive space during combat

Played the training mode to get a feel of the game, it definitely feels better than Charged for me, closer to the original but with its own gameplay differences and additions, so that is a positive.

Mixed on the vibe, I was kind of hoping it would still be Strikers, but eh, the opening is far less chaotic and energetic, the stadium and menus are a bit too clean, lovely animations, really NLG is great with that, but, I wouldn't say they are fully Strikers animations, stuff that wouldn't be out of place (the ones I have seen) in like a Party or other sports games, like that quality should be the floor for Mario, and stuff like Strikers should be weirder, edgier, just something different in general personality wise, the game has personality, I just don't think is the personality I want out of Strikers, if that makes sense.

Don't like how is looking content wise, but what is new.

But it will be a fun time, but I'll wait until they add more everything, and Daisy, and Kritter.

I’m liking it way more in handheld for some reason. Looks really nice on the OLED. Finally getting the hang of the fast paced aspect of everything (after being used to more sim soccer).

Well said, you hit the nail on the head. Next Level has always had quite medicore UI unfortunately. The scale of this and LM3 are both laughable on a TV lol.

Not had a chance to try this demo yet, but the content is make or break for me - same for a friend.

If I really like the gameplay it’ll be tough, because I suspect it will be a very barebones launch.

20 characters when all is said and done is good. All this is missing is an open world career mode with contract negotiations and the ability to buy your own house in mushroom Kingdom. What other useless filler am I missing? 🤔

Gameis is so solid. Can't wait to see what competitive 4x4 will be like.

Gonna have the dogs the tutorial quite a bit more. Controls are easy to pick up but seems to have a high ceiling with everything else lol

Simulation of the management of match TV rights in a combo Reccetear/Phoenix Wright negotiation simulator.

Use your insane marketing skills to get as much money as possible from different TV stations ñ, manage branding and merchandising, and chase after pirate broadcasts, then use that money to customize your players' yatches.

Neat fact: Next Level Games was formed by former Black Box Games employees, the studio that made Sega Soccer Slam.

Somebody else mentioned this to me at this board, and creative character win, lose, and goalscorer animations are probably the hallmark of the connection between the two dev companies. Soccer Slam had very good ones filled with personality back when, too.

This Strikers game has one-time passing that feels snappier and the super shot in this game is a mix between the two supershot types in Soccer Slam. I'm getting good vibes from this demo.

Seems like the soundtrack has some very good remix, it looks good ! I'm pretty hyped for this game

The game feels good. It's giving me Sega Soccer Slam vibes that the last two games did not have. I am looking forward to playing more, even if I am mostly SP rather than online.

I just checked Sega Soccer Slam scores, and surprising scored better than Mario Strikers games, except the PS2 version.

Game feel and graphics are great, but I'm waiting for a proper demo to see if this is ultimately for me. The dry training alone isn't doing much for me and playing online is something I'd rather do after first finishing a few single player matches.
