This direct was so good that I dont mind no BOTW2 news lol. So the big blowout for that will be E3 then. With Xenoblade this September I guess that has me more hopeful for BOTW2 being released this holiday

So, good direct eh? Definitely one of my favorites.

You could have just shown me the last 5 minutes and it would have been all I need

But a bonus of Chrono Cross? Live A Live, Earthbound, Mario Strikers, Portal 1 + 2, Nintendo Switch Sports, and Front Mission 1st? I'm so happy with it

I meant new announcements but yes, No Man's Sky is on my radar for sure. I was already sold on Kirby so I didn't really need another trailer but it was fun. Other than that none of those games interest me either because I've played them before or I just am not interested.

you will play klonoa i swear to god

That Direct was wild. Wii Sports? Mario Strikers? Klanoa? Chrono Cross and MARIO KART?? Holy hell and it's all within the next 4 months

Ending on Xenoblade 3 was a really nice choice too.

Nintendo just low-key dropped an SP version of Super Metroid into the SNES app. Fully loaded right before the final boss.

Because you've taken such an interest I will look into them more than I planned to. Can't promise anything though.

if you have a wii u, the most affordable option for some hands-on experience with the series is going to be through the virtual console. the gba games are both fairly breezy platformers until you try and collect all the stuff. then it starts to put the challenge in. the ps1 game was a lot easier than the ps2 game or the gba games. the ps2 game is probably my favorite but i haven't played it in 20 years.

the tone of these games in both the story and setting, as well as the gameplay, is close to kirby.

Here's my one specific prediction, headline style:

More Rare games are headed to Nintendo Switch Online!

(trickled out over the next few months)

N64: GoldenEye, Diddy Kong Racing, and Donkey Kong 64
SNES: Killer Instinct
NES: Slalom, RC Pro-Am, and Snake Rattle & Roll

Banjo-Tooie, Killer Instinct Gold, and Perfect Dark come later. Plus some more NES games. Probably Battletoads too.
Well, this aged like cheese! Should have stick with my initial guess about earthbound and earthbound beginnings.

My current guess is that Nintendo will get the remaining N64 NSO games out of the way by June (the Custom Robos will prolly get released alongside Mario Golf/F-Zero X/Kirby 64/Pokemon Snap when they drop on the service), and E3 is where they'll announce the next slate, and that's probably where we'll see more Rare games.

Bingo card turned out way better this time

Holy shit on a sandwich that Direct was nuts

  • Mario Strikers: Battle League. This announcement had me absolutely losing my mind. I never thought we’d see this series again, let alone this soon and with all the flair of its predecessors, and including best girl Rosalina to boot
  • Splatoon 3. The return of Salmon Run is a welcome inclusion, featuring Beeg Salmonid. No release date still is a bit disappointing, but it looks like it’ll be launching relatively close to my birthday
  • Kirby and the Forgotten Land is looking better and better. A new game mechanic reminiscent of Odyssey’s capture, and the return of my boy Dedede
  • Switch Sports was another wild left-field announcement, and the gameplay with Takahashi and Koizumi was cool. I need that jersey yesterday 😂
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Booster Pass. A whole game’s worth of courses from a cross the series’s history and the first wave launches in a month. March is going to be good. It looks like Tour-level graphics which is a bit disappointing, but at least it’s free with the Expansion Pass, which is definitely worth it now, if it wasn’t already. Hopefully this holds me over until Mario Kart 9 another half decade from now
For me this one will go down in history as one of the best of the Switch era. E3 has some big shoes to fill.
They just need to show mp4 and more about Botw2. Shoes filled for most of the people.

Just finished. This feeling... Is this what wanting a cigarette after good sex is like? Because hot damn this year.

I swear Square Enix kicked it into overdrive my god
Never in a million years would I have expected "3D remake of Front Mission 1st", "HD-2D remake of Live A Live", and "later this year" to be uttered within minutes of each other.

I'm not crying, you're crying.

That was one of my favorite Direct ever. Just looking back there's so much great stuff announced, and even quality trailers from known stuff... Crazy good pacing too, just perfect.

This is what I figured as well

Rewatching the direct and one thing that's annoying me during the Splatoon segment is a part of the egg throw. At one point they throw it in the basket and it goes in slow motion and it's clearly not gonna go in the basket but it just clips in lol

I can't believe this is just the start of the year. Either they're front-loading the hell out of this year and we are in for a painful drought after May, or this is going to be one for the record books.

just wanna mention in the Fire Emblem trailer they pretty much dumped Male Byleth and went all in on Female Byleth in all the footage and the cover too.

kinda really nice fr, going all-in on the female-rep, ig essentially making it the canon choice. still don't see that kind of thing often at all

This Direct was amazing for me specifically

Front Mission 1st
Live A Live
Earthbound
Chrono Cross Remaster
Xenoblade Chronicles 3

NA Direct shot to #1 Trending in Gaming on YouTube with 2.4M views already. It's crazy...
Yeah, even now, I still don't think most of us realize just how popular the Switch is with the mainstream. I'm 100% convinced the successor isn't launching until the end of 2023 or early 2024. And that's perfectly fine. Interest in the current Switch is as high as it's ever been (real talk: it's still more popular than XBS and PS5), Nintendo has a killer lineup coming, and the console is easily going to sell 135+ million units in the end.

Overall: 7/10. Good but still had questionable stuff.
I was also expecting Goldeneye fosho, and had hyped myself into anticipating Fire Emblem mainline or Echoes.

But that said, if I'm keeping perspective and timing in mind ... This would be a "solid" June Direct and a "good" Fall Direct.

This is a Bonkers Feb Direct.

Mario Kart news was exactly what I hoped for (and free with the expansion pass!)
It coming with the expansion pack is great!

I don’t remember anything Zelda, am I forgetting something already lol?
The Zelda theme is a song in Taiko no Tatsujin ✌🏻
(It clearly wasn’t what I thought 😅)

Quick edit:

True! January/February directs aren’t packed like this one

Just finished watching and that was a great Direct. Here are my personal highlights:
Fire Emblem Warriors: Three Hopes - I enjoyed Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity a lot more then the first one due to its BotW-focus and "what-if" scenario and I think I'll feel the same about this one compared to the last Fire Emblem Warriors.
Mario Strikers: Battle League - I've never played a Mario Strikers game, but this looks fun so I'm in.
Advance Wars 1+2: Re-Boot Camp - Looks great and I loved the first Advance Wars so this is a must buy.
Splatoon 3 - Me and my friends played hours of Salmon Run in Splatoon 2 so I'm excited to continue that in the new one.
Front Mission 1st: Remake - One of my biggest regrets was skipping out on the Front Mission remake for the DS and I'm not making that mistake again and the second game also being remade is excellent news as well.
Chrono Cross: The Radical Dreamers Edition - Another game that I originally got on my Vita now remastered with new content.
LIVE A LIVE - Yes, simply Yes!
Triangle Strategy - A final demo was obiviously coming, but the first three chapters and transfer to the full game is a big plus.
EarthBound & EarthBound Beginnings - It's great to have these games on my Switch at last.
GetsuFumaDen: Undying Moon - It caught my attention when it was last announced, but I'll wait for reviews before jumping in.
Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - Beautiful and now I have seven months to finish the first before this releases.

Overall an excellent RPG-laden Direct that left me excited for the months to come.

Even that feels way too early now that we have MK8 DLC coming throughout 2023.

Other than those two playing volleyball, the pacing was perfect.
Agreed but where is that Koizumi gif of him flying up and out of the frame while wearing a red jersey after appearing in the video just to mime-play volleyball with Takahashi immediately after we just witnessed Live A Live of all games rising from the grave into HD-2D gloriousness???

That magical moment will surely live on forever in our ♥️ s

I don't think Mario Kart DLC plans necessarily mean no Switch successor whatsoever until later, it could also point that Nintendo is confident that the next device will be backwards compatible and that a new Mario Kart won't necessarily be ready until after the DLC is through. It makes more sense to me that Nintendo would wanna shift towards the iPhone-style upgrades to help keep the strong brand name and keep users in their ecosystem.

Is it bad to say that the game that (I'm interested in to begin with) that I'm the least excited about there is Splatoon 3?

It just looks pretty much identical to the two prior games, with relatively minor elements thrown in on top. That was clear from prior trailers but the 'New Wave' for Salmon Run kind of cemented it for me. I'm sure the singleplayer will be good, and I'll probably still get it, but it feels like an iterative CoD sequel (e.g. Modern Warfare 3) but with the expectations of a much longer wait behind it.

Maybe I was expecting too much but that initial trailer promised, at the very least, a much different aesthetic. Salmon Run 2 doesn't even really seem to have that.
I agree with this with what they’ve shown so far, but I really think they are also holding back one new mode / idea they haven’t shown that’ll be really cool. I’m very happy Salmon Run was back for example and they showed some neat additions, but it wasn’t a radical reinvention. I also expect that mode to be super fun when we actually play it and the difficulty / speed ramps up to the obscene levels in Splatoon 2.

I was hoping today would be the big blowout for Splatoon 3 with the release date, but I guess we have to wait a bit longer.

I think Nintendo is using the DLC as a kinda stopgap. Adding additional content that way there isn’t as much pressure for the next one to release.

I thought this was probably the best direct in a while. Strikers is as close to anything I would purchase. I’m sure a lot of you are over the moon. 🥳
