Could we get some Treehouse presentations after the Direct? I know that's normally an E3 thing, but there's no E3 this year.
Think that would've been announced with the Direct announcement. They've done something like that before iirc

Though it's possible that they're saving it up as a surprise

Like F-Zero by by NLG? But it is Jon who is saying it…
as someone who watched a decent amount of GameXplain videos, their old staff for years gave me the vibes that they heard about an F-Zero game in the work

but NLG making a new F-Zero doesn't make much sense, I don't think they have any experience making these type of games, especially an F-Zero game Wich is kinda one of the hardest racing games to make

The other thing that might get some NOA employees excited is a game from Retro being there...

What's a really bad WiiU direct? Just curious what kind of announcements were disappointing back then! I didn't have a WiiU so no frame of reference.
January 2015 is one of the worst of the WiiU era, pretty sure the only new game announced for the console was Lost Reavers (a bad looking F2P game by Bamco).

Plenty of announcements for the 3DS still, but Nintendo had pretty much given up on the WiiU at that point and it showed.

My dream direct prediction:

  • Opens with a new Fire Emblem game
  • Short updates on Kirby, Advance Wars and Splatoon 3
  • Mention of the Kirby Anniversary with some new games later this year
  • Third party: Batman Collection, Triangle Strategy Demo, Hollow Knight Silksong info
  • Ends with Xenoblade 3

Just found out the gimmick of the new 3D Mario

While we’re talking about past Directs, what are some of your favorite trailers or announcements from Switch Directs? My top 5 would probably be,

1. Odyssey trailer from E3, so iconic with the reveal of the Cappy mechanic and the Pauline song.

2. Smash Bros teaser in March 2018, the Inklings were a great way to start it off and the Smash Ball in the inkling’s eye may be the best shock reveal Nintendo has done. It’s even got an arrangement of the main theme.

3. Metroid Dread reveal in 2021, full of awesome gameplay and the “Dread” name reveal was excellent.

4. King K. Rool reveal trailer in 2018, really everything from that Smash Direct but especially the well done Donkey Kong animation. The fakeout with Dedede is classic.

5. E3 2019 Zelda announcement, really just a teaser but drew me in immediately with its mysterious vibe.

Honorable mentions: Mario Maker 2 reveal with slopes, “Everyone Is Here” at E3 2018, Kirby trailer from 2021, etc.
  1. Smash reveal in March + EVERYONE IS HERE in June- I am tying them together. Easily the most hype moments in Nintendo Direct history.
  2. BOTW 2 announcement in 2019- Nintendo really knows how to pull off the "one more thing"
  3. Nintendo 64/Genesis games on NSO. We were all expecting Gameboy/Gameboy Color games and Nintendo threw that at us out of left field. (Now please put more N64 controllers in stock)
  4. King K Roll coming to Smash- I still laugh at the King Dedede fake out
  5. Advance Wars- I'm not the biggest fan of the franchse, but that reveal told me Nintendo will literally put any franchise on the Switch.

Special note- If Nintendo had announced Metroid: Samus Returns in the Direct, I would have thrown it on that list. That game got me super excited to finally play 2D Metroid games.

1. Tie between the two BotW2 trailers, I think the E3 2021 one was more hype for me as it had more expectations building up to it, but in terms of the actual trailer itself, I like the 2019 one more. It suspenseful, mysterious and builds itself up excellently. You could really hear Zelda theorists go haywire as the trailer unfolded.

2. Smash E3 2018 - EVERYONE IS HERE. Need I say more? So powerful!

3. Kirby and the Forgotten Land, I was just smiling like mad the entire time. Dream come true.

4. Astral Chain announcement trailer, it just looked bonkers and fantastical and nobody had any clue about what it was until it revealed itself as a new IP from Platinum, of all things.

5. Splatoon 3 was a really cool trailer, I loved how it opened with the character creator, and then had the character sit silently on a train.

E3 probably isn't happening this year.

So, Nintendo can talk about BotW2 whenever they want. Maybe they'll want to talk about it tomorrow, especially if they're confident it's launching this year.

I think the general expectation is that Nintendo will do their own thing around June. It makes sense since tomorrow's direct is "mainly" focused on first half games.

I think they hold off on showing Zelda tomorrow (but I'd love to be wrong.

NLG?

They’ve made

-Mario Strikers
-Punch Out
-Luigi’s Mansion
-Metroid Prime FF

They’ve clearly shown they can work on different genres. I don’t see F-Zero being out of their realm.

It’s gonna be great.

Tomorrow's Direct we should see:

Goldeneye 007
Brand new 3D Fire Emblem game (slated for June, not a remake of FE4)
Metroid Prime HD (slated for August, will likely just say summer 2022)
Xenoblade 3 will close the show
Splatoon 3 release date

Let’s think about this please. There’s a reason so many people from Treehouse is hyping this direct. They never do this to this extent.

Because there will be big announcements from Nintendo. I think BotW 2 will get a story trailer and confirmed for Holliday 2022.
I will cry if this happens. Not expecting it by any means, but it does make me wonder with the likelihood of E3 being fully canceled...

My favorite Direct moment is happening tomorrow when they announce Chrono Cross remastered, featuring a new ending and 40 hours of new content.

Don't do this.

Don't give me hope.

Splatoon 3 should be pretty meaty, but this will be the kick off of the marketing. I assume we get a date and hopefully a Test Fire. But we'll be getting Squid Research Lab posts starting tomorrow and up through release, and we'll get a Splatoon direct ~3 weeks before the launch of the game.

Excited to (hopefully) see some new announcements, as well as maybe more Sunbreak news. Still holding out hope for a port of NES Remix 1&2, or Xenoblade X.

No hope. Only despair now.

TPHD and WWHD instead.

I think the NOA employees are hyping this direct so hard because they wanna see us all laugh at the horseperson game that they don't like. 🤣

When the internet breaks down over how bad it looks they'll be huddled in a room over pizza all going "lol we knew it"

Ugh, the Fire Emblem discussion on the GVG prediction video was painful. They are talking about how the Geneology of the Holy War and Thracia 776 remakes should be like Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition with Thracia 776 being the "non-essential" bonus like Future Connected was. And they are talking about sales of Three Houses in US vs. Japan for some reason.

Tuning in to GVG's Direct predictions/discussion.
Jon musing about NLG developing F-Zero right off the bat.

Those are the out-there predictions I am tuning in for, lmao.

Glad i woke up to good things this morning :) Whats the consensus on splatoon 3 showing up tomorrow? I skimmed through nates podcast and heard no mention of it.

I don't think there is a game I would be more shocked to see skip this direct than Splatoon 3.

A NLG developed F-Zero would probably be awesome.

They can get on that right after they port Punch-Out!! Wii and develop a sequel to it.

I think the assumption isn’t that Nintendo won’t have anything in june, it’s just that without E3, june just becomes a “normal” direct.

If they don’t have the platform and venue of E3, then all bets are off for when they could do treehouse since it’s not tied to that anymore.

I like the way you're talking. Tell me more

I really want to see a new Fire Emblem and Xenoblade. If we can get both I will be beyond excited.

1) Metroid Dread's reveal, was visibly shook when they confirmed the game was called Dread.

2) The Smash Ultimate original reveal with the Inklings, I instantly knew it was Smash Bros because they were using the Splatoon 1 designs for the inklings but the eye reveal was amazing.

3) The death of "Ridley is too big" at the end of E3 2018 direct was cathartic as hell as someone who'd argued for Ridley before Brawl was even announced.

4) The Final Fantasy mega announcement in that one direct that confirmed several games including FF7 and 10 were coming to Switch.

5) The Mario movie voice cast reveal which was amazing and hysterical all at the same time.

Oh I talk about it all the time. It's one of my favorite NES games, I even love Zoda's Revenge.
I have a huge soft spot for both of those games too. Heck, while everyone was enjoying DKC during Christmas '94...I was playing Zoda's Revenge. And loving it.

I'm look for any of the following:
-botw2
-sportstory shadowdrop
-silksong

I'm a simple man. I want what I can't have

Fair enough. Speculation around here in May (and possibly June) should be interesting

I would’ve figured they would’ve announced it
Yeah, they would. Only one time they did something like this was in September 2019 when they announced that Banjo is dropping that same day and immediately after the Direct they showed Sakurai Presents playing Banjo (but that's pre-recorded) but Treehouse is often live.

Any NLG-developed F-Zero needs to go back to X's American comic book-esque art style. I think NLG would really make it shine, especially in cutscenes.

Sonic Frontier Story Tagline be like:

“Sonic is the fastest thing alive, but can he outrun his personal demons? Sonic Frontiers is the emotional re-telling of the origins of Sonic the Hedgehog”

Even the Direct Mini of March 2020? I'm usually the most optimistic guy in the room, but even I admit that was a tough one to watch.
I got Xenoblade Chronicles Definitive Edition, Catherine: Full Body, the announcement of an ARMS fighter for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Bravely Default 2 info + demo in that one so it was good in my books.
