Fun Club What are your favorite indie games on Switch (that AREN'T these titles)?

Excluding a few of the more popular ones like Enter the Gungeon, Katana Zero, Oxenfree, etc.:
  • Wandersong: One of my all-time favorite games. Super charming story, great art direction, and a fantastic cast. Even just typing this up makes me want to do a replay.
  • Nexomon Extinction: Pokemon-style game with really nice monster design, decent story, and solidly challenging gameplay. A bit simple since all monsters only have one type and don't really get diverse movepools, but otherwise pretty good fun for $20.
  • Islanders: Fun, simplistic strategy game that you can play in short bursts.
  • Underhero: Vaguely reminiscent of Paper Mario with fun writing and nice combat. Platforming can be a bit iffy though.
  • Graceful Explosion Machine: Relatively simple mechanics that combine into a really well-polished game. Super fun to shoot for a new high score.
Gosh, UnderHero is such a creative spin on the Paper Mario formula. I really loved the story, characters, music and battle system. Great aesthetic too. I agree about the ify platforming and I'm glad the battle system was there to make up for it. Hopefully the devs make a sequel after their current anime-inspired game in development.

I would also say A Hat in Time, but it runs better on other platforms.
I’d still get A Hat in Time on Switch. I believe numerous patches have fixed several of the major performance issues and it now plays smoothly.

Surprised nobody else mentioned Eastward. If you like Earthbound/MOTHER, Undertale/Deltarune, and other quirkPG with a splash of Secret of Mana then you’ll enjoy Eastward.

Yeah, I really enjoyed Hat In Time on Switch and didn't notice any performance issues.

Since it hasn’t been mentioned and I had a great time playing it:

Has-Been Heroes

It’s a lane-based roguelike that scratched an itch for something with a simple yet addictive gameplay loop reminiscent of the original Plants vs Zombies. Lots of fun

Since the thread got bumped today, I’ve been playing Gnosia these past few days and it is super good! It’s like single player Mafia/Among Us and it has 14 distinct characters to face off against with a cool sci-fi story. I haven’t beaten it yet, but I feel like I’m almost done so I feel safe recommending it.

I feel the need to highlight a game that hasn't been mentioned yet: Vectronom

From the moment you boot this up you'll understand it's a work of art. Don't miss out on this one.

The Last Campfire - Very pretty puzzle game.
Gris - Gorgeous and emotional 2D platformer
Axiom Verge 1 & 2 - Both fantastic Metroid-likes. 2 has more of a melee focus than the first game.
Gnosia - Mafia/werewolf game. It's dangerous because the gameplay is too addicting, you may lose a lot of time when playing :p
Spirit of the North - a bit janky but a pleasant 3D character adventure game where you play as a fox.

I'm more or less halfway through Death's Door and I think I have to add it to the list (if I hadn't already). Very fun game

I'd say:

Gorogoa - if you like good beautiful puzzles
A Short Hike - mentioned before, but TOTALLY worth it. Ugly crying at some point.
Gris - Beautiful adventure story. Gorgeous.
Pikuniku - Wasn't expecting much of it and it absolutely blew my mind. Funny and fulfilling!

I'd vouch for:
  • Monster Sanctuary: a fun battle system with skill trees and minimized incentive on min-maxing, plus Metroidvania maps.
  • Eastward: wholesome energy and beautiful hand-drawn art.
  • Night in the Woods: a profound adventure game with a good insight into contemporary psychological and social topics.
  • Raging Loop: a unique visual novel based on the Werewolf/Mafia game.
  • Bloodstained: Curse of the Moon 1/2: as close to classic Castlevania as they can be.
  • Golf Peaks: relaxing and mediative.
I'm playing VA-11 HALL-A and it's on point so far, will update it into the list when I'm done.

Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night, The Messenger and Katana Zero.

I wish I got more into Crosscode than I did.

Pumpkin Jack really shocked me with how great it was. Felt like a higher budget 3D platformer and it was a real deal. One of the best indies I've played on Switch and I really want a sequel.

I've heard about this and this trailer was great. Does the game look like this on Switch? Because I'll definitely get it if so.

A selection of indie games on Switch that I really like:
Toki Tori 2+ by Two Tribes. What a brilliant puzzle game. I loved Toki Tori 2 (the original release) on Wii U and thought it was a 10/10 game, and Toki Tori 2+ (also available as a free update on Wii U) has some improvements, mainly based on players‘ and reviewers‘ feedback. It‘s not too similar to Toki Tori 1 — for example, it’s not level based, but has a 2D open world. It‘s extremely polished and of high quality, in my opinion. The puzzles are great. Quite a few reviewers thought that the puzzles were too complex, though, so it‘s probably not the best game if you are easily frustrated by puzzles. It was business-wise a bad decision to use a chicken as a protagonist, giving the game a childish look, yet design the game and puzzles for more experienced players. 1080p/60 fps (docked) and great soundtrack, too!
Star Wars Pinball by Zen Studios (indie when the game released). High quality pinball, as you would expect from Zen Studios. 19 fantastic, extremely detailed tables, a lot of single-player missions, HD rumble, TATE mode, and much more. Easily worth 100 €, in my opinion. Digital version is currently on sale for 15 €, and there is a physical version with standard price of 30 €.
— Two other mentions: Yoku‘s Island Express and Pikuniku are neat, unique games too. Highly recommended!
Oh, I'm not saying it can't be or anything. It just felt very AA/AAA to play. I genuinely didn't know it was an Indie lol
Yeah, it‘s incredible what Shin‘en is able to output with basically 4 employees (Linzner, Sauter, Wodok, Aleit — anyone else?). Very efficient, they say it‘s thanks to what they learned when being active in the German demoscene in the Nineties.

Quest of Dungeons is a really addicting rogue-like dungeon crawler with lots of replay value. I enjoyed it immensely. Goes for really cheap when on sale, but is also worth the full price.

SQ_NSwitchDS_Downwell_image500w.jpg

Downwell is also really addicting, it's a platformer with some rogue elements. The title already says it, you're falling down a well lol and on your way down you fight enemies, dodge terrain, collect items and upgrade your character. You should play it in handheld mode with the Switch turned on its side (tate). It was basically made to be played with the flip grip!

SQ_NSwitchDS_ElectronicSuperJoy_image500w.jpg

Electronic Super Joy is an older indie game that made it only recently on to the Switch. I guess nowadays it's not really that special anymore, being surpassed by games like Celeste, but it's still a fun playthrough. I especially like the music and sound effects, it has a bit of a rhythm game feeling to it. Goes for really cheap when on sale too. There is also a sequel, but I haven't played that one yet.

golf story or The Touryst?
do those count... those were both pretty solid...
Though my favorite is Ori... but it doesn't count cause OP said so

Death_s_Door_Beginners_Guide45.0.png

I’m playing Death’s Door as well (albeit on PC) and I agree. It’s easily my favorite of the indie isometric action-adventure games (Hades, HLD, Tunic). The combat (and bosses) are spot-on and the adventure bits with light Zelda-ish puzzle solving and opening shortcuts have been solid. At least so far, the inventory consists of just a few different weapons and the collection aspect is limited to gaining XP (souls) for increasing four combat stats, so there’s minimal time wasted in menus. The default buttons a little weird (light attack on a face button but heavy attack on the right trigger; left trigger to aim magic but a face button to shoot), but controls can be easily remapped. I also appreciate the graphics being colorful, clean, and easy to read, with an almost cell-shaded look.

One that hasn't been mentioned at all is Ape Out. Really cool and stylish game that has a soundtrack that reacts to what you're doing in the game:

It's short, but a lot of fun.

Yes! I had almost forgotten about this one. I bought it because I read it was similar in gameplay to Hotline Miami and... it's not quite that, but it's very fun regardless.

A few more I haven't seen listed:
Besides those, I also encourage people to check out Risk of Rain 2, DUSK, Blasphemous, Thumper, Oxenfree, FAST RMX, VA-11 HALL-A, Skullgirls: 2nd Encore and Void Bastards. Easily some of my favorite games out there, not just on Switch.
