If we are talking about both as RPG genre then Paper Mario. The graphics and style are gorgeous, Origami king was one of the prettiest.

But for me Action Adventure works too, a game like Origami king but no puzzlw combats, you just fight enemies in the overworld, would be awesome.

Super Mario RPG sequel but replace Geno with Danny Devito and the rest of the cast can be from the image below. I don't know who they are though.

Paper Mario is an adventure game now. So Mario RPG would be a good series to fill the gap while Paper Maro could continue to do it's own thing.
