It's like how with Avatar a lot of people started deciding anime doesn't have to be from Japan in order to be "anime," just has to follow certain stylistic tropes.

I feel like this could make the same argument for anime not even having to be animated.

Yeah, apparently the 2 main characters are famous Indian revolutionaries who in real life never met
