yes, that SNEG. they even made proper social media accounts for the first time ever (for the game, there's still no general company account.)

a video game adaption of this 1922 novel was being planned by publisher Akella as early as 2004, but it spent several years in development hell before getting very close to release in 2010. former IGN Editor Arthur Gies has memories of playing that specific build.

Captain Blood is the rarest of treats, something we weren't expecting.
Here's hoping developers Seawolf and 1C maintain the pirate code and fulfill Captain Blood's promise.

to give you an idea of how close to release it was by this point, a full achievement list for it exists on Steam's servers. and the preview builds were sent out with fully printed box & disk art.

but alas, the game was quietly cancelled. barring a random J2ME mobile game based off the same novel.
the unreleased title would wallow in obscurity for many years. until full source code for the project suddenly got posted online in 2022.

with it being readily accessible, it's not surprising that SNEG picked up the IP and decided to finish the game in collaboration with General Arcade (who previously ported Chasm: The Rift and Blade of Darkness to modern systems.)

Yeah saw this earlier today. What a crazy news. I remember this being announced for the original Xbox around 2005! An action game based on Sabatini's books. Quite interested then actually. Then it disappeared. Then it re-appeared. Then disappeared AGAIN. And now it's coming out. Still looks crazy fun, though.

And I can't wait to see what else SNEG has for Switch. got both Chasm and Blade of Darkness. They own Warlords series IIRC.
