from Banpresto, who did a ton of licensed casual arcade games like this in the 90s.
it's basically a quiz game that outputs the questions through the telephone, with a bonus (real-life) card collecting mechanic on top. each play would give you a free card.

patricularly unusual is the fact there was also a home version of sorts made. "Super Mario World: Mario to Yoshi no Bōken Land "

normally a basic 28-minute OVA, the video featured sound cues that could get picked up by Bandai's Terebikko toy. allowing the viewer to answer basic trivia questions about what was getting shown on-screen.

english-subbed copy of the related OVA
Oh hey, I've heard about the home version thanks to its nature as an early Mario animated project, but I didn't realize that there was an arcade game based on the concept, too! Apparently Terebi Denwa Super Mario World came after the OVA, if the copyright dates are anything to go by.

If anyone's curious, said OVA has been posted to YouTube with full English subtitles. There's a few familiar voices from prior Mario animations too - Toru Furuya and Yū Mizushima reprise their roles as Mario and Luigi from Super Mario Bros.: Peach-hime Kyūshutsu Dai Sakusen!
