On January 31, 2024, at 06:00 UTC, the online services of the PlayStation®4-exclusive software “Gran Turismo Sport” will come to an end. Prior to this on December 01, 2023, we will also end the distribution of purchasable Add-On items from the PlayStation Store that can be used in-game.

After the end of service date, it will no longer be possible to utilize online services such as the Community, Open Lobby, and Sport Mode, nor online features/items such as custom liveries. The offline portions of the game can still be played, including purchased Add-Ons.
terrible time for simulation racing games currently, considering Forza has also switched to online-only.

the (mostly) part could have also been even worse, as the game infamously launched with very little offline single-player content. with the traditional single-player league getting added in a post-release update.
but even that requires an internet connection to save your progress. even though there is an internal debug option to enable it.

will they turn this on for everyone once the servers go down? hopefully so.

Good ol' fashion planned obsolescence. Really hate reading stuff like this regardless if there is anybody still playing. So stupid to basically make a game that will be completely useless after a certain point.

Beyond the obvious reasons, this sucks more because many of the faces we see in the GT7 campaign (cafe) got their start in GT Sport so it is like cutting out a piece of history. I would love for Sony to patch it to be playable offline but have no faith in the company.

would putting in an offline mode be Sony’s call, or PD’s?

Sony owns PD so they should be able to get it done if needed. If they patch it to be playable offline and delist the game, it shouldn't be a problem for future sales. Most people who are serious about GT already play GT7 or would start playing it online so this would just be a good gesture from Sony.

Sony doing what they do best. Fucking shit up in dumb ways.
just to state the obvious - Sony is far from the only company to take servers offline for online-only games. That doesn’t make shutting down GT Sport right or good, but it does make your comment seem hyperbolic and console warz-y.

I'm not interested in console wars nor i like to participate in them. You should be able to say that a company sucks or that you don't like said company and its decisions without being accused of being a console warrior, like you are doing to me.

And to be fair, saying "Sony fucking up things in dumb ways" if we apply that statement to several more aspects, not only the server shutdowns , it's not hyperbolic at all.

a last minute patch that enables offline saves has been released.
After the end of service date, it will no longer be possible to utilize online services such as the Community, Open Lobby, and Sport Mode, nor online features/items such as custom liveries. The offline portions of the game can still be played, including purchased Add-Ons.

Additionally, all gameplay progression will continue to be saved through Saved Data on the PlayStation®4 system.
the version number is 1.69
