Software:
1. Splatoon 3 - 51,547/3,235,701
2. Bayonetta 3 - 41,285
3. PS4 Star Ocean: The Divine Force - 27,001
4. PS4 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II - 24,371
5. NSW Ace Angler: Fishing Spirits - 23,297
6. PS5 Call of Duty: Modern Warfare II - 17,710
7. PS5 Star Ocean: The Divine Force - 17,177
8. NSW Aquarium - 13,199
9. NSW Persona 5 Royal - 12,040/58,038
10. NSW Needy Girl Overdose - 11,693

The times are a changing when Star Ocean and Call of Duty are doing basically the same middling numbers. Bayo 3 numbers seem disappointing but it probably has a high digital percentage too.

Hardware:
PS5 (all varieties) 38,866 (this week), 843,312 (YTD)
Nintendo Switch family (includes OLED, Lite and OG) 38,634 (this week), 3,642,677 (YTD)
Xbox Series 3,674 (this week), 247,013 (YTD)

Sony wins this week, and is starting to catch back up with the Vita. The Switch is having stock problems across all models. Microsoft had a decent week too.

Bayonetta numbers don't seem too amazing - hopefully digital is picking up the slack.

Cant wait for the: "Switch is doomed", "How will Nintendo react?" type videos lol.
don''t forget the thumbnails

It begins...

"It's Finally Happening To The Nintendo Switch"

What? People going "IT'S FUCKING OVEEER!!!!" whenever something mildly negative related to it happens? That's been happening to it before it was even announced; there's nothing "finally" about it.

(Also fucking sad Mario being Thanos-snapped in the thumbnail is killing me)

These people are going to need to see a chiropractor to help with the whiplash they’re going to have when S&V drop

I loved the part "they said it's because there is no hardware BUT I went to Amazon japan and it was avaliable, so they are lying"

No problem! They can always make a video going "Nintendo! Proving the doubters wrong once again!" while pretending they weren't part of the "doubters" in question.

I loved the part "they said it's because there is no hardware BUT I went to Amazon japan and it was avaliable, so they are lying"
The fuck? He actually says that? (I haven't watched the video, for I have a strict "skip anything that unironically uses sad Mario" policy) One quick check and Amazon Japan does have the Switch in stock, alright... as an "Available by invitation" product because of it being a "High-demand item with limited quantities".

Fucking clickbait youtubers, man...

In regards to RGTs video, I disagree with the idea that retailers are holding back stock for Pokemon. I can definitely see Nintendo holding back shipments or ordering them to save systems for Pokemon. BUT I do agree with his notion that Nintendo needs to be prepared for the successor and not react too late like they did with the Wii to Wii U. Nintendo would be out of their minds if they don't already have a new system in the chamber ready to be released by the end of 2023.

Hmmmmm I don’t know what’s good or bad for Bayo
It topped Splatoon 3 on the eShop last Sunday. Meaning in its first week it sold more there than Splatoon 3 did in two weeks. Splatoon 3 already has a very high digital share, and sold a lot more at retail, so Bayonetta 3's digital share must have been huge for it to achieve that. Unless Splatoon 3's digital share dropped massively for some reason, Bayo 3 is unlikely to be below 100k combined (physical + digital) first week.

So it's selling faster than Astral Chain and completely demolishing Bayo 2 even combined, but still far behind Bayo 1. Mind you, even Devil May Cry 5 didn't manage to touch Bayo 1 opening sales in Japan, the genre has just fallen very hard in the past decade there so I wouldn't really hold that against Bayo 3. That kind of recovery is already impressive enough imo.

Aaaaand Dragon Quest X is not even in the charts anymore. If this is due to supply constraints, SE royally fucked up this release.

The Switch version is there at #15! And yet it's the only one that went out of stock last week, so yeah the PS versions are pretty much done. The week we're currently in just had a big restock for the Switch version so next Thursday we can expect to see a solid increase in sales :)

You're still absolutely right that Square Enix fucked up though, it shouldn't take almost 2 months for Switch supply to finally possibly meet demand. Hopefully the expansions will keep this game going for a long time

Then it really seems like the case is Japan isn't very interested in the game.

Which is honestly not surprising, considering both the base game and DLC sequel are available for free as a trial version for the online game which is readily available in Japan. This offline version makes no sense if it doesn't release on the west.

I know if it's still coming with these weak sales, but I know we can definitely kiss offline version 3 and onwards goodbye.

Don't know how you can say Japan isn't interested when the game was supply limited at launch. 200k+ is a lot higher than many rpgs these days

Not interested by Dragon Quest standards. If it's true the PS versions are available and it's still not selling, that's going to be worst performing mainline DQ game in a long time in Japan.

I just read that the ScarVio Special Edition Switch was released today? Could that explain the somewhat "slumping" sales numbers from last week?

That's just PlayStation games behaving like PlayStation games though. We still don't know how it would perform with enough stock to meet demand on Switch and it has charted very high digitally due to the shortages, plus the holiday season is coming and it's quite likely to turn into an evergreen like Dragon Quest XI S.
Unless Treasures steals its thunder I guess? But imo DQXO is more likely to outlast it thanks to the expansions and being a mainline entry.

There's a reason Treasures is skipping PS even though Nintendo doesn't seem to be involved anymore lol.

I wouldn't necessarily say that since 1) it's an MMO and 2) during the first week shortages S-E was heavily pushing the Steam version as an alternative in their Steam infomercial.

Also, it's an offline version of an MMO that's been around since the Wii era. There's going to be a fairly small audience for it since anyone who wanted to play it could've done so by now.

Well, yeah, that's what I'm saying. I'm not arguing people aren't interested in DQ anymore, I'm saying it seems like SE might have overestimated how many japanese players wanted to play an offline version of DQX when the online version of the same content is available for free.

That’s certainly possible. The FFXI offline version for mobile imploded too right?

That's the best debut for the Bayo series, correct? Probably very good digital sales too.
Far from it, Bayonetta 1 was very big in Japan

Oh damn, didn't realize that. I must have been thinking of the Bayo 1 Wii U numbers.

I didnt say they underestimated demand, that's what other people are saying since the game apparently undershipped. What I'm saying is I think, even undershipping considered, the demand for this particular Dragon Quest game doesn't seem up to the franchise's standards.

Because it's a offline version of a game and doesn't even have the same art style as contemporary DQ games. There's a big gap between the low shipment that SE and stores anticipated and the usual DQ numbers that 10O can slot into.
