NS - 30/30

How many 30/30 does this make? Before switch mow many 30/30 were there, and who had them?
If I recall correctly, this will be the fifth one for this year, and the tenth overall for the Switch.

Before Switch, the last 30/30 sweep was the Famicom in 1988.

There are few PS5 games that can crack into top 10 in the coming months: Soul Hackers 2, Valkyrie Elysium, One Piece Odyssey and Star Ocean. But all of them are bound to be bombas on console, won't stay there for long. PC probably will save them from a worse fate in west.

Man, if only, IF ONLY there was a system that could run most of those games with little issue, that was successful both in Japan and in the rest of the world and that had a very active user base that buys high quantities of games; if only... but sadly, such a thing only exists in our wildest dreams :(

Of course it exists, it's called the ps4.
They need to go back to ps4 exclusive games, this multiplat strategy is not working out at all.

The PS4 is also fast becoming a dead market so if they wanna capitalize they have to do it like now.
People keep saying this and we keep seeing games getting announced for it. It'll finally die when either Sony mandates no more games on the platform or it's outclassed by Nintendo's hardware. Right now, if you're using Unity or Unreal and you're making a Switch version there's little reason not to provide a PS4 version given the current PS5 situation.

We keep saying it because the software situation on PS4 is also really bad now. If 3rd parties wanna continue putting their software on it because PS5 is even more abysmal that’s their prerogative. Make no mistake though the PS4 software situation will only get worse.

PlayStation just completely dead at retail.
It's about to get even more dead too. A lot of Japanese players are pissed at Playstation because they raised their prices. Sony is going to have even less momentum.

I wonder how long until third party publishers start caving. Particularly Square Enix. I think PS5 exclusivity will be a death knell for a lot of different franchises in Japan.

SE is fine when it comes to Japan they have DQ and are one of the biggest Switch supporters when it comes to 3rd parties, they will be only be at danger if they do dumb decisions with DQ as a franchise.

I think Square-enix's exclusives are mostly individual studios decision. FF16 is obviously a money hat from Sony but Valkyrie Elysium and Star Ocean are from studios not friendly with Nintendo. While Tri-ace did some work on Nintendo platforms in the past, PS has always been a home to them. Soleil, for some reason, not a big fan of Switch, so far only one of their games released there: Samurai Jack.

Other than those, I totally expect majority of Square stuff will be on Switch. SaGa, Mana, KH, DQ, even to some extend FF...

who will make changes and who won't will be based on how well they do outside of japan. SE doesn't have a reason to make many changes. neither does Bandai Namco or Capcom. once you step down from those three, there aren't many companies who hasn't already made shifts. even Falcom has changed their tunes

At this point, I would not be surprised if S-E pulls a XIII and breaks contract and gets XVI onto the Xbox ecosystem before launch
I don't think 13 was breaking any contract, just Sony not expecting MS to push so hard (and possibly pony up) for the game and 14. Sony would have since made sure not to let it happen again. the only way out is for MS to come up with a paycheck to cover what SE would lose in exiting

The Nintendomination in Japan is staggering. Straight up flattening the competition.

Speaking of FF and the PS5 price hike
As a result of the price increase, FF16 is now trending(opens in new tab) in Japan on Twitter, as aitaikimochi notes(opens in new tab). Many of those players are Final Fantasy fans simply lamenting that the price of the console is likely to keep them away from the next entry in the series.

Others are hoping to play FF16 on their gaming PCs. The vagaries of machine translation make it difficult to pin down precise quotes, but Steam and Epic keep coming up(opens in new tab), and it seems calls for a PC port - in the vein of Final Fantasy 7 Remake - are getting louder. Some players are wishing(opens in new tab) FF16 will be released on PS4, too, but calls for that PC port are much more common.

Maybe my memory is faulty but I seem to recall the announcement came prior to the price drop and redesign when the PS3 numbers were still not good in some of the regions. Not sure how much MS had to do with it but at the time it was pretty clear they weren't likely to recoup their development costs given the size of the PS3 install base.
