I have to admit, I didn't think that switch sports would have been such a big success but here we are.
Can't wait to see how it did on the next nintendo financial meeting

It isn’t when you consider that PS5 doesn’t have the games that most consumers want (Nintendo games)
the issue isn't really games. even when there are ps5 games that used to do very well on ps4/ps3, they sell terribly. the playstation brand has just fallen off in japan in a big way.

Most of these franchises lost half of their sales during the ps2 to ps3 jump and another half during the ps3 to ps4 jump (while ps3 and ps4 sold around the same). It isn’t only the PlayStation brand that is damaged, most franchises that used to be tied to it also are like Tekken/RE/Gran Turismo etc

Weaker third parties makes PlayStation weaker which makes third parties weaker is a cycle that will continue non stop unless 3rd parties put their games on Nintendo hardware and at that point they are harming even more PlayStation.

Don't know if this is the place to ask this, but is it fair to say that PC gaming is bigger than PS at this point in Japan? I believe that when around MHW launched the PC market was way smaller than PS, but supposedly PC gaming has grown quite a bit since then.

It has grown quite a bit especially for f2p games (Apex Legends) but how big it is is unknown and it seems it is genre dependent. Still it is more of a factor that let’s say Xbox but not more than PS at all

I suspect PC is eating away a playstation in japan, but outside of Elden Ring, it's hard to say just how much non-f2p games are making there. on steam, JP makes up 2.38% as far as usage goes.

I guess Famitsu forgot to include the other platforms in this week's list. ;)

Being serious though, Mario Party Superstars and Clubhouse Games are like 2 or 3 weeks away from a million.

Its both, PS5 sells incredibly low for how long it is been on the market and Switch sells incredibly high for how long it is been on the market.

You're talking about software, right? Because the only conclusion that can be drawn from PS5 hardware sales in Japan is that Sony can't make anywhere near enough of them to come close to satisfying demand. The PS5 sells out the very second it becomes available. I've been lucky this month in that finally my luck came in on store lotteries which gave me the chance to buy one. Actually got two, so one of them will be going to the second-hand shop, who will offer me more than its RRP for it.

Only needs to sell 1200 copies to enter top 30 but still not single PS game managed to do that. It makes sense though. I checked the list of released and upcoming games on ps4/ps5 this year on the official website and can't see any of those games having much appeal and sales legs in Japan. Maybe that Stray game could have done something if it had a physical release?

damn, another 30/30

interesting to see star allies charting again. i guess it's gonna pass 1 million in a few weeks.

Mario Maker 2’s sales really aren’t as bad as some people would have you believe…
It is at 7m (at least) worldwide. I guess some people were expecting it to be a multi 10+ millions seller. But 7m is indeed a strong result.

Wonder if a million for Kirby is in the cards for this year. That'd be cool.
I think it is with a holiday push, which would make both Kirby games million sellers by the end of the year. Fiscal year if we're being more realistic.

Demon Slayer outselling Three Hopes in Japan wasn't the outcome I'd have predicted.
Musou legs are the worst of any genre, it will struggle probably to sell a lot more than 150k retail LTD. (Which is good btw for a licensed Nintendo musou)
