News Epic Mickey Rebrushed announced for PC and consoles (UPDATE: coming September 24th, see threadmarks)

$60 at launch is a tough pill to swallow. This will definitely be an "get on a sale" game.

I hope it reviews well!

Never played either of the Epic Mickey games but man this looks really good and fun to me. I'm planning on getting it for sure. Can't wait! :)

Confirmation that they're absolutely fixing the camera.

Gosh, this is exciting. As much as I love the original Epic Mickey, I can't deny it had some jank to it, in large part because of the camera. Getting an HD version with updated visuals that fixes the jank that I can play on my steam deck is more than I ever dared hope for.

I hope this game does well enough that they decide to redo the second game too--and I mean ''totally redo'' it. Add in all the stuff that was cut or scrapped, expand the story, do everything they can to turn EM2 into the worthy sequel it should have been all along. And then, Epic Mickey 3.

Already 700k watched on YouTube! Batman Arkham and Fortnite was not as fast as this to hit that number. This is gonna sell big numbers. And guarantee a remake of the second game and maybe other Disney gen 6 games!

Though Battlefront collection has been watched a total number of 1.4 million. Watched on Playstation channel as Nintendo posted the video later than they did.

Those developers have made games for multiple publishers. They weren't tied directly to Ubisoft. They probably got booted off the project by Disney just like they got replaced even on XIII. There was no Donald Duck Gone Quackers remake in the works for current consoles. This simply got handed to a different publisher and developer.
Someone should really greenlight a Donald Going Quackers remaster

I know this is being really petty, but "Rebrushed" is a horrible name IMO -- every time I hear it, my teeth get on edge. It's not even a word!

this game was always weird in retrospect since in a way it was Disnye's way of reintroducing Mickey as a character and not just a brand logo to modern audiences while also paying tribute to early Disney, I think it could have been a lot more successful if they kept some of the more darker aspects and had an extra year to fix the jank

I realize now that THQ is the Publisher and now I really want a Deadly Creatures remaster.

Yeah... this has been THQ Nordic's "thing" with rereleases for the last few years: Darksiders Warmastered, Darksiders II: Deathinitive Edition, Red Faction: Guerrilla Re-Mars-tered, etc.

I would have called it Brushed Up (because that actually has the same meaning as "Remastered" in a sense)

Sorry for being late to the party (my time online has been minuscule...) but....

LET'S FUCKING GOOOOOOO!!!!!

Epic Mickey is one of my favorite Wii games, and I always mourned the abrupt end of the franchise after Epic Mickey 2's cliffhanger.. and while I am never on the camp of asking for remakes of my favorite games (I'm in favor of rereleases, however) this is an INCREDIBLE opportunity to fix the little tiny mechanical and structural annoyances of the original game and have it available on modern platforms.

I won't dare to dream on the Epic Mickey franchise getting its long due 3rd main entry, but I'm quite happy this is happening at all!

I streamed the game start to finish JUST last month! I feel like the timing couldn't be any better... it was even the stream I came out for my audience, so that will be always be a big moment for me to remember;

A couple previews came out from Nintendo's showcase at GDC. It sounds promising!

What’s more impactful is the control overhaul, which makes Rebrushed feel like an entirely different game. Rather than using motion controls to paint, I play my demo on a standard Switch Pro Controller, using a two-stick setup to move and control the camera. That’s so naturally implemented here that I can hardly remember the clumsy controls of the original. Nothing feels out of step with a modern 3D game, where I’m able to freely pivot the camera around while painting enemies.

The demo sequence from GDC took Mickey through Gremlin Village. The visuals are close to the spirit of the original game, but look much smoother through the use of newer hardware. Game mechanics are largely the same, as evidenced by some of the game's objectives. We were still shutting off valves, platforming across emerging platforms, and confronting a variety of cartoonish enemies. Those who hated the waggle-based controls of the old Wii version can rejoice, because the game's combat shifting to the controller's shoulder buttons feels totally intuitive, as if that was always how it was meant to be played.

They're both quick reads so I definitely recommend reading them! 🐭

Very odd it was omitted from the last Direct (I guess Disney Illusion Island called dibs lol); But I'm excited! -- I want a new trailer though, because ... some leaked test footage showed many new mechanics for mobility and combat 👁️👁️

EDIT: Here's the test footage for anyone interested (they added an evasive dash and a ground pound that will greatly improve combat when enemies surround you)

I'll be happy to wait for sale. I still haven't gotten around to BFBB or Cosmic Shake, similar projects from THQ

Seems like an easy sell for Game Pass or PS+ too, brand rec and all

this is gonna be a mega flop at 60 bucks... what are they thinking?
Battle for Bikini Bottom Rehydrated, which was a similar remake by Purple Lamp, launched for $40 IIRC.. and then Cosmic Shake, which was an original game, for $50.

I'm gonna take a blind guess and say that simply the Disney license is more expensive for them. And Epic Mickey is in general a more higher profile game than the SpongeBob titles.

But I think for the amount of work put on this, I'd be willing to pay 60.

The Switch cover looks lovely.

This is the kind of game most people will wait to buy on sales, so starting from 60 dollars enables them to give good discounts without devaluing the game too much.

Oooh, the new abilities as seen in the leaked footage are confirmed in the Amazon page!

and you can RUN now?! Holy shit, this a big, big change! I don't know WHY they didn't show in the promotional videos yet D=

like, I've only looked at a few videos of this remaster back when it first was announced but could already tell some substantial effort had been made to make the "It's a Small World" area more legible overall. that made me really interested in what they were doing with this game

that they are going the extra mile to rebalance and rethink so much of this stuff is fantastic news

I reckon the dashing and running especially will help those 2D stages feel a lot more fun to play through

September? Rip. Between Zelda and Edgeworth collection I have no time or money for it now. I'll maybe get it somewhere down the road on sale then.

I really don't know why they're not showing these improvements. Idk how I missed that preview from March but hearing that it's an actual remake and that controls and camera are getting fixed makes me very excited. I wanted to love the Wii version in 2010 but even aside from the camera, it just was not a smooth platformer. Between this and Yooka, I'm happy to see a willingness to fix older busted games.
