News Level-5 announces DECAPOLICE for Nintendo Switch and PS4/PS5 (UPDATE: open world game, delayed to 2024?)

Game seems interesting but I'm just really not sure about the combat system yet

I don't see this game hitting in 2023 unless it's bunched up closely with Fantasy Life and Inazuma Eleven
Seems to be Inazuma Eleven is the one getting delayed to 2024. Both DECA and Fantasy Life had 2023 in their trailers while Inazuma didn't.

I'd say November for Fantasy Life and December for DECAPOLICE.

DecaPolice is hard to categorize as any one genre; it's an RPG, certainly, but its mechanics are varied to the extent that I was worried that they might collapse in on themselves like a stack of cards. You have an unorthodox ATB battle system, a fairly in-depth investigation system wherein players are not only tasked with gathering evidence around crime scenes but also deducing the events that occurred with the Case Board, and all of the little nuances that players will have to pick up along the way.

There's still any number of ways that DecaPolice could go wrong in the end, but the stylish and ambitious demo that Level-5 had on hand for the show left us with nothing but confidence that the final release could end up something truly special for RPG fans.

Very high praise. Not sure about the switch to ATB, but I trust Hino.

I don't want to read reviews with a sentence like "The game falls apart after the first 10 hours". Level 5 deserves a success. And needs one.

Hino fucking up is more meant like "having a promising new IP start with a good game, then fuck it up with stupid cross-media plans, delays and the usual L5 shenanigans". ^^

Yeah, Level 5 ruining a game by running it in to the ground makes them their own worst enemies.

Ironically, the move to only having HD consoles which necessitates a longer development cycle regardless of how hard they try otherwise could be a actual boon to level 5, so that they have a much harder time unintentionally overstuffing the market like they've done several time sin the past like with Layton and Yokai watch

At this point I honestly dont really care if the game slips in to 2024 -

If it turns out as good as RPG site suggest it is - I'm good.

I just want Level-5 back

At this point, the game has to be a 2024 game, I dunno why they're pretending otherwise, unless it's going to be digital only, they'd have to be ready to get the cards and discs printed at this point to distribute.

I can already feel a Level-5 masterclass incoming with the release date. No better way to kick off your new JRPG IP than releasing it right next to major titles in some of the most well established JRPG IPs.

January 26th through February 2nd is the worst possible time for it to release, so that’s exactly when I’m expecting it’ll come out.

If it does come out in that Jan-Feb 2024 timeframe then I may actually make this the game to scoop during that time.

2024 is to be expected after they didn't give a date on yesterday's stream.

Hopefully not in Jan-Feb. Way too many releases already.
I mean, I don't think a chunk of the industry cares 😅

But we'll see. Maybe it'll be a cool December release.

They seem to be not sure. I think they believe in themselves to make it to 2023 but cannot deny the possibility of that's not happening. The good news is, if they're sure enough to put 2023 in the trailers, even if it gets delayed, it should be a very early 2024 release.

Captain here: Post-2024 means "We're not sure if this will release in 2025 but we don't wanna use the evil 2026 in our statement."

Open world? I'm guessing Hino changed the course once again and he's trying to create his own GTA game. The first trailer of the game said nothing about big open world.

Moving to open world would be a major design shift. Given it was already on ps4, I can't imagine hardware being the reason

Weird how he even mentions the feedback being good but then delays it for 1-2 years

I mean, if Square Enix barely developed FFXV in two-three years, I asume Level 5 can manage this is two

yup. i feel like if they were confident in 2025 they would just say it (like they did with layton), so 2026 is a possibility.
Honestly, even if they are confident in a release, who else trusts them with release dates? This was supposed to come out this year and was delayed at least into 2025, more likely 2026 or later. The Inazuma Eleven game was was supposed to launch when originally? 2018, 2019? By the time the Layton game is released Switch 3 will be available. If it's not cancelled or Level-5 bites the dust before, that is.

lmao announcing a game for the next 9 months and then delaying it for at least 2 years. Sounds like Level 5's planning is alright.

I keep hoping someone fluent in Japanese can confirm what was actually said so we can confirm if "post 2024" should have been "late 2024".

Official site is claiming 2024, though the livestream was likely more truthful

wondering how the switch version will run now that it's open world. maybe it's still the default version while PS4/5/Drake are just high res/frame rate versions of that

Update: Delayed to 2025 at the earliest and potentially much later.

Incredible company.

Genre shifting at the end of development

1. Is an all-time bad idea
2. Is going to take multiple years

So I'm guessing "post 2024" was an accurate translation.

Starting to think the posts speculating about the combat system being overhauled were right.
