After 30 years, I have made the decision to retire from SIE in March 2024. I’ve relished the opportunity to have a job I love in a very special company, working with great people and incredible partners. But I’ve found it increasingly difficult to reconcile living in Europe and working in North America. I will leave having been privileged to work on products that have touched millions of lives across the world; PlayStation will always be part of my life, and I feel more optimistic than ever about the future of SIE. I want to thank Yoshida-san for placing so much trust in me and being an incredibly sensitive and supportive leader

PlayStation CEO Jim Ryan is retiring. He leaves in March 2024. He will be replaced on an interim basis by Hiroki Totoki

That's crazy. I wonder what happened.

Maybe his goal was to get the Ps5 off and running and hand off the job to someone else for a smooth transition???

Oh the "Nobody plays old games" Jim Ryan. Same as the "Nobody talks about abortion in the company while I'm here" Jim Ryan. Nothing of value is lost.

Hopefully someone who actually cares about the brand takes over. There's been a streak of leaders who didn't, from Jack Tretton to Andrew House.

Well that came outta nowhere. I'm not fond of some of his decisions over SIE during these last few years, however the facts are the facts: He has made Playstation very successful even during covid years to the wider mainstream market and hardcore alike.

Hope we do see some interesting changes in a few years...because I doubt we will see many by the Interim CEO.

This is my takeaway. I haven’t been interested in a single PlayStation game this gen that wasn’t made by Insomniac, so I’m hoping there’s at least a sliver of a chance whoever’s next in charge cares more about diversifying their lineup of games.

…But I don’t have high hopes of that :/

Apologies for just adding to the dogpile but…I don’t mind this one bit. Maybe PlayStation will stop pushing the (harmful) “prestige gaming” narrative focus.
