Still one the best racing Nintendo games to this date.

Depends on if the game was capped or logic tied. Pilotwings is now a solid 60FPS for example
Funny thing is that the wing suit in P64 is tied to framerate, so that part of the game is basically unplayable now.
When you realize the N64’s greatest hits is halfway done lol.
That depends on what you see as greatest hits

Going by the modern perception of the N64 library? You're mostly right

But at the time? The N64 still has a lot of juice.

Bring on the Goemons, the Castlevanias, the Top Gears, the Fighter's Destinies, the Bombermans, the Mortal Kombats, the Worms, the C&C and Starcrafts...

There's a lot of good shit out there that disappeared from the public eye as time passed. Precisely, Winback was one of those and the library opened up with it. And that's not counting licensed games.

The N64 library is underrated.

I had Excitebike 64 back in the day (which also contained the original). Pretty good game.

Hybrid Heaven, mischief makers and snowboard kids too!

Cool news! I remember renting this game back in the day and playing it with my brother. This time we will be able to play it online. I am still waiting for Mario Party 3 too...

this means the original NES Excitebike has been released three seperate times across the various NSO apps, as it's unlockable in here.
the emulator used is completely seperate from the one NoJ made for Animal Crossing that would go on to be heavily used up until the Wii. developed in "a couple of weekends". and from my discussions with the programmer (Benjamin Stragnell) it sounded like he was completely unaware the Japanese emulator existed at the time.

My favorite part of N64 NSO releases is honestly probably the trailers they do for them. Like, they could just go with simple "here's some gameplay, here's when it's out", but no, instead they basically make new commercials for almost-30-year-old games and they commit to the bit.
they've been doing it as far back as the re-release of the Donkey Kong Country Trilogy on Wii U Virtual Console, which was a recreation of the original SNES commercial.

Good ol days back when nintendo had the Nintendo sports line, I wish they'd go back to it , also on the topic of exitebike id like them to re release the wii ware game i quite enjoyed that one and it seems Nintendo forgot about its existence

It would be great if we could somehow get all the licensed Star Wars games. I suppose Pod Racer wouldn't happen since it's already on the eShop, but the Factor 5 games at least...

It's disney so i doubt it, but Shadows of the Empire and Rogue Squadron would be so dope.

Still a blast!

Learning the right way to boost, brake turn, and build momentum from the ramps when jumping is crucial to doing well in Excitebike 64. But if you can get a handle of it all, there's a nice flow state to the racing in this game.

Highly recommend doing the tutorial if you are just getting into it.

Be prepared to eat a ton of dirt.

Previously, my N64 games were lined up six rows of four. Now they are lined up five rows of five. No idea what I will do at 26.

Group the racing games together, the Mario games together, the multiplayer games together and the single player games together

I've recently come to the conclusion that Custom Order is a power I am too unfit to wield and I just sort by playtime now instead.

I go by date of release because that's just how my mind categorizes all this old stuff anyway lol

True and honestly, Nintendo's racing lineup on N64 might be my favorite from a single publisher on a single console. It's only competition imo is probably Sega's Saturn racing lineup.

I love this game, but I HATE playing n64 games on NSO. I might have to buy the controller finally, but I really don't want to. It's a disgrace how awful the controller options are in the NSO app. I really don't want to give them more money just because they suck at this.

I forgot how HARD this game is. Like, just in Novice I got my ass handed to me.
Then I tried the Tutorial and I manage to end some of the trials with less than 0.50 at the timer.

Damn.

@DrJay : You should give this a try :

Retro-Bit Tribute64

I have one and use it for both the Switch and N64 emulation (PJ64 because Retroarch can't let me use this correctly with its UI from Satan).
It is wireless and have vibrations. You do have to plug a USB dongle in your Dock / PC. You can also plug it to a USB-C to USB-A adapter in portable mode if you can stand your Switch with this.

EDIT :
The controller is already NSO N64 ready out of the box, just have to set the controller to Switch mode (instructions on the back of the controller and in the box) once and never think about it ever again.
