Discussion 1-2 Switch is 6 years old

LukasManak22

who the fuck is that
Yes, everyone is talking about how Switch or BOTW is 6 years old but no-one is talking about the masterpiece 1-2 Switch. This deserves a thread on it's own.

"1-2 Switch let's you enjoy the expresivness of the Joy-Con HD Rumble but at the same time it's a brand new kind of game, one that mixes the new kind of play that haven't been seen before. Your typical videogame has you playing while looking at some kind of screen right? But 1-2 Switch can be played without looking at any screen. So then where exactly do you look? Into eyes of your opponents.
You look directly into eyes of your opponent to play the game. It's a game that is primarily played through face-to-face interaction, so you can bring Nintendo Switch to parties and after-parties, indoors or outdoors any place people gather together or meet and you simply

1) stand the Nintendo Switch up.
2) grab the two Joy-Cons.
3) hand one to a friend.

And with these three steps, place you are in becomes the game world and everyone is ready for fun. We're creating 1-2 Switch to be a stable for parties and to become an icebreaker for all kinds of fun communication.
1-2 Switch features fun for everyone gameplay made possible by the Joy-Con and it releases March 3rd alongside Nintendo Switch." - Kouichi Kawamoto, Nintendo Switch General Director, 1-2 Switch Producer, Nintendo EPD Production Group No. 4 Manager.

It features a whooping number of 28 minigames and some of them are cult classics like counting balls, eating sandwich and milking.
It also features a outstanding soundrack:

All this and much more delivered by 1-2 Switch, selling over 3.6 million copies on Nintendo Switch.

PEAK.

For what it's worth, I did have some fun with 1-2 Switch with a group of friends around the time the Nintendo Switch launched. And I still like that marble mini game! One of the best uses of HD Rumble on the system.

I got it as a birthday present, played it once or twice, then sold it and used the money to fund a 2nd-hand copy of BOTW.

Wii Sports it ain't.

I almost bought this because I was weirdly in to that marble game and the pistol stuff.. but I knew I wouldnt play it more than once so I skipped out.
But for what it is, it sold extremely well..

Here's 15 Nintendo published games 1-2 Switch has officially outsold:

Paper Mario Origami King
Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity
Yoshis Crafted World
Metroid Dread
Arms
Mario Strikers Battle League
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
New Pokémon Snap
Mario Golf: Super Rush
Pikmin 3 Deluxe
Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker
Octopath Traveler
Pokemon Mystery Dungeon
Xenoblade Chronicles 3
Xenoblade Chronicles

Many of these are among my favorite games on the systems hah

I kind always wanted to try 1-2 Switch. It looks like a blast of an afternoon with the right group of friends. But I'm not paying full price for one afternoon of fun, and I'm sure that all I could ever get out of it since I grow tired of minigames very easily and I don't have many friend interested in videogames anyway.

I also low-key wanted it because the guys in it are really hot and I wanted to take a better look at them doing embarrassing shit, which I'm a bit embarrassed myself to admit, but hey, it's Friday.

I read this as a very sarcastic thread, but just to be clear 1-2 Switch is a miserable game. A friend had it and for most of the fun you really have to bring it yourself. And at the point, why not do anything else with your friend. The best game was thrusting the Joy-Cons back and forth at each other and shouting “Wizard!” I mean we laughed, it brought joy I guess, but…that’s dire…

Please never be fooled or let curiosity get the better of you, 1-2 Switch stinks!

For how much I talk about its sequel, it‘s telling that I never played that game.

I know people here are mostly being either sarcastic or outright negative- but... I absolutely love 1-2 Switch! No hint of sarcasm, it is one of my favourite party games. I've quite literally stopped playing Mario Party- because I play 1-2 Switch!
I know, I know, the user with the Joy-Con in their avatar simps for Joy-Con, but they're ACTUALLY great and 1-2 Switch is the definitional Joy-Con show-off game. Nothing will convince someone of the quality of the motion controls and HD rumble like 1-2 Switch.

I have so many great memories of playing 1-2 Switch, with my parents, then in my first apartment, in the park, in the courtyard of a university while I waited for my entrance exam results.

I think maybe I happened to fall into the perfect demographic for 1-2 Switch, and Switch as a whole. Because honestly I got more value out of $50 1-2 Switch than $20 dollar SnipperClips, or $60 dollar Super Mario Party. It's not a game for gamers, it's a game for everyone else, and honestly, it's easier for non-gamers to play 1-2 Switch than Wii Sports, because 1-2 Switch isn't self explanatory, but it explains itself so well.

I've quite literally had dreams about 3-4 Switch, and I REALLY hope it comes to fruition, and isn't a horse-hosted mobile game... I want 4 player 1-2 Switch, I want online play, I want more minigames, I want better visuals, I want more of the AMAZING (not sarcasm) music and style, I want asymmetrical multiplayer with one player on a Handheld Mode console, or a Pro Controller, or a Joy-Con pair, while single Joy-Con players work together against them! I want more NINTENDO!

Shout-out to the time when people thought the Switch would flop because it wasn't packaged with 1-2-Switch.

I think it would've done worse had it been.
I still think it should have been included.

Just not front and centre. More like a first boot message that says "Would you like to install 1-2 Switch (Free Download) to explore the possibilities of Joy-Con?" like how Xbox prompts you to join Xbox Game Pass with a short free trial.

I would also extend this to Lites getting Link's Awakening HD, given it was... I'm not gonna sugar coat it, a cheap, poorly optimised, fairly low-effort "remake".

Not a bubble on the front of the box, just, a little thing on the back that says "1-2 Switch; Joy-Con demonstration software available to download when you first connect a Nintendo account."

I think if it were packed it, it would be positioned as a demo/tutorial, and not a game, and for some weird reason Nintendo REALLY wanted it to be a "game".

I really like this game. I had so much fun with friends who were not gamers playing this and they got it immediately. I get some of the hate for this game maybe, but it is quite a good attempt in bringing non-gamers into videogames.

I think 1-2 Switch is pretty cool. Especially since it really showcase the true power behind the joycons.

For context, I started out on the Switch Lite. So even when I was 'Switching', I never knew what was so special about the joycons other than it can shake. I first experienced HD rumble when I was at a party and someone brought their Switch + 1-2 Switch. That 'how many balls are there' game? Damn. At that point of time, that joycon really felt that it had rolling balls in it.

Eventually, I got an OLED Switch for myself... but still never bought 1-2 Switch. The game IS COOL... but it's not really something I fancy in my collection. I'll totally recommend it as a party game for anyone using the Switch for that purpose though!

Why it's called 1-2 Switch though, I don't get the 1-2 part.

But I guess it's about these 3 steps without the first one:

1) stand the Nintendo Switch up.
2) grab the two Joy-Cons.
3) hand one to a friend.

1) grab the two Joy-Cons, 2) hand one to a friend 3) you are playing
