Which weekday was typical before those changes?

Friday has been the standard for virtually the entire Switch generation at least. It's not a huge departure but there is presumably some internal reasoning.
Yeah in Europe at least, for as long as I've been following game releases closely since the end of the GameCube era, Nintendo has almost always done thier game releases on Fridays for retail stuff, Thursday for eshop exclusive stuff

The one exception I can recall was Pokémon X and Y, which for the first ever worldwide release on the same for Pokémon, they chose to release it on a Saturday. However most European retailers started selling it a day early anyways to keep with the standard Friday release

It is an interesting shift considering how long they've done Friday releases and the fact it's beginning from after the end of the Fiscal Year. Also interesting that they've picked Thursday to line up with their usual eshop day too

Overview trailer coming; JP site already has a thumbnail for it.

Hope this comes out right away, this is one where I’d really like to hear more about what new stuff they’ve added.

Gotta say the lighting, reflections and screen space effects are some of the best overall on Switch. The game looks fantastic. Intelligent Systems really knows what they do.

Hey hey, I called it for May! One out of two ain't too bad, and it's earlier than LM2!

Princess Peach Showtime for March, Luigi's Mansion Gamecube $30 port for April (and hopefully SSB64 for NSO), PM TTYD for May, Luigi's Mansion (physical edition) for June, Luigi's Mansion 2 for July.

Was hoping for an April release, but that's cool. Can't wait.

That means 2 first party releases in May.

could be baked tho
Doubt it. That part of Rogueport Sewers has a moving platform that's casting a shadow, so it can't all be baked. Trees should also have some movement, at least when you smack em with your hammer. I think it's just getting the most out of smaller areas with a mostly static camera. Kinda like Luigi's Mansion 3.

As long as the command timing has been calibrated for 30fps, I don't think the reduction will have too much of an impact here.

Would be better if it was 60 obviously, but I think this is one of those games where you can get away with it.

It looking absolutely stunning as trade off probably helps.

The eshop description mentions

“This version for the Nintendo Switch™ system has revamped graphics, and a suite of additional changes that make the game easier than ever to enjoy.”

“Suite of Additional changes” hopefully they add a ton of QoL.

Something I noticed from the September Direct was that the Side Order trailer was also 30fps. In the final release, it's 60fps outside of the cutscenes.

It looks like TTYD is already finished and on the eshop servers, so the next trailer will give a definitive answer.

The dreaded "easier" term. Lol I know they likely mean QoL but still..

Hopefully nothing like Super Mario RPG.... do not make combat easier please. If anything I want a hard mode.

It'll 100% be an easy mode or systems that make the combat easier. All I hope is that they don't neuter the pit of 100 trials

Yeah I think many many people can tell, myself included. I don’t really mind this being 30 but in general, 60fps is just so much better imo.
I get that and I respect it. The fact that so many people are concerned about the FPS in their games makes me realize that most people can make a clear distinction.

For some reason I cannot lmao

Excited to finally play this and see what all the rage is about. I played PM64 last year on NSO and thought it's neat.

English box art just dropped!

Ooh, nice!

Not gonna lie, a small vindictive immature part of me is not wanting to buy this due to being tired of the Arlo crowd over the years, but thankfully the rest of me is overriding it. Fantastic game and I'm super curious if the pacing issues have been lessened or not.

Do we have some idea as to why they’ve changed release dates to Thursdays?

The game looks fantastic. Intelligent Systems really knows what they do.
With the effort in graphics and lightning, really makes you think this is certainly a remake and not remaster

This looks much more graphically impressive than Origami King, which was also 30.
This is structurally veeery different from TOK, so there’s a probability it might be 60fps

Or they’re leaving 60fps for Switch 2

Shopto (here in the UK) have opened preorders at £34.85. They are known for offering pretty good prices for physical games at launch, but it being that low makes me think there isn’t going to be much added content (if any).

Hopefully I’m wrong!

lol what? He's just a YouTuber, not some kind of cruel dictator.
Bugger, it did sound like that didn't it? Sorry about that, quite hyperbolic on my end. I was referring more to the 'Paper Mario must have turn based battles and unique partner characters' vocal minority over the years, and the first YouTuber I'm aware of like that is Arlo. Like I said, just my petty side poking out. 😅

hey no problem, I kinda see your point. I have to say though, if the annoying-ness of the Paper Mario fanbase led to this remake, I'm kinda glad it happened that way.

If I could will one change into existence it'd be an option for PM64's partner system where they had no health of their own and would get stunned if attacked.

I can personally tell at a glance, but I'm also someone who can notice 60Hz light flicker (and find it a little uncomfortable, unfortunately).

Hoping preorders for this and Luigi's Mansion goes up soon at Best Buy and other places here in America. I would like to preorder them.

  • Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door is Unfolding … Soon!: On May 23, travel alongside Mario and his irrepressible companions through a paper world as you unlock the mystery of the Thousand-Year Door. The witty and whimsical RPG arrives on the Nintendo Switch system twenty years after its original debut on Nintendo GameCube. This revamped version features enhanced graphics as well as new gameplay features. Pre-orders are now available on the Nintendo eShop and on Nintendo.com.
wonder what those new features are

Hoping to god that battles are at least 60fps to maintain all of the actual frame data, but I doubt it because Color Splash and Origami King were both 30fps in battles with some dips here and there. If it doesn't, I'll lose a lot of interest as that combined with the much slower text speed (in a game already littered with padding) is enough for me to completely write off this remake.

Think we will get new bosses like SMRPG remake?
I sincerely hope so.

I love this game to death, but I'd really like some new challenges to balance out whatever they may make easier. The dream would be something like "EX Pit of Trials", with even harder boss battles.

Now, granted, if this is truly 30fps, I'm sure my superguard timings are going to be off, anyway...

Ideal scenario, TTYD adds:
-Improved fast travel
-A pipe that lets you travel to the Creepy Steeple and back
-letting you accept as many Trouble Center requests as you want
-New content (Post-game bosses? Pit of 200 Trials? Neo Glitz Pit? Luigi Quest?)

What I'm expecting: they added a Hint Toad in every area that tells you where to go. Also, there's an option that simplifies action commands

wonder what those new features are

Simplified action commands, an easy mode, and the new NPC toad will give you hints

EDIT: Beaten by the post above lol

There's no reason for him to be dressed the way he is if that's his role in the game. Also I'm pretty sure there's a badge that already simplifies action commands so it would seem very redundant to simplify it moreso.

So, we finally got a little clarification on the higher age rating in Japan.

Looks like there's something in the game that CERO considers a "societally incorrect act" you can commit, considering the Crime/Bad Action content descriptor. I hadn't played through this yet, but talking with a friend of mine, sounds like it might be due to the scenario involving Mario and the Mafia stuff. Given the lack of content descriptor for violence (which CERO is much more stricter nowadays about), I'm assuming the Toad murder is modified, even on the Japanese SKU.

Either way, it's such a dumb thing and I don't know why CERO is so strict about stuff. I get they're concerned about potential imitable acts, but between this and Odyssey, just.... dumb.

Then again, this is the same rating agency would rather rate 8+ properties much higher age ratings in game format (12+, 15+, and sometimes 17+), rather than TV and Movie rated stuff that often is intended for General Audience/All Ages, so you know...
