Discussion Which ip would you like to see Nintendo funding like with bayonetta

Well, not sure if this counts, but I think Nintendo would do much more interesting stuff with Pac Man than what Namco’s doing now (and what they have been doing for the past like almost 20 years).

Also…maybe Jak/Daxter? The tone of these games doesn’t really seem to fit Nintendo imo, but if it’s a game in the style of TPL especially maybe they could pull it off. I’d definitely take an attempt by them at least over the series just staying dead.

I think what makes the bayo funding interesting is that they do not have a high-octane character action game in their portfolio.

So going by a genre/game they do not have internal, I would think of a couple of genres: horror/suspense (LM does not count) in the M rating and dungeon crawler (Diablo-like) to name a few.

-They have IPs in both genres: Eternal Darkness/Geist and Soma Bringer (Monolith IP) so they could do that. I don't think they will at the moment.

I dont know what else they could fund to increase their portfolio.

For horror, they were trying for ages to make Fatal frame cover that gap, but it never took off because the audience isn't really there for that kind of serious game. Not that the half hearted localisation attempts with limited or nonexistent releases helped, but yeah.

Totally, localization played a big role (not only with Fatal Frame). Even trying to bring the series back is difficult given that the majority of horror games that do sale have a lot of combat and are faster-paced.

Make Fatal Frame a FPS or a rail shooter lol.

that's true, but money is a resource. any publishing money should go into growing and improving epd
They have more then enough money into both doing what is described here & growing/improving EPD. Besides the money in the former would be allocated elsewhere then where they are drawing from funds to grow/improve their studios.

I can’t think of a good Bayonetta equivalent situation floating out there where some team really wants to make a game with an IP they own/are related to but just can’t make it without Nintendo stepping in. There’s just not a lot of big independent teams out there left sadly.

If they can just freely fund some games, I agree with WestEgg, Nintendo please work with Square and bring back Fortune Street. Give us an epic Mario, Nintendo, Dragon Quest, and Final Fantasy crossover for the ages.

Surprised it hasn't been brought up yet, but the Chrono series seems like a really good pick. Square-Enix has done the bare minimum with the IP despite Trigger's legendary status and nothing currently indicates an interest in funding a sequel on their part. Funding a new AAA Chrono game would instantly give Nintendo a massive cult RPG IP under their belt, and they could use their connections to get some semblance of a new 'Dream Team' together. A lot of former Trigger staff even work at Monolith Soft and could help out on the project.

Maximo from Capcom as a cartoony souls-ish with a bit of platformer. They already were involved with Ghosts n' Goblins Resurrection so they like those classic IPs and it gets them a cartoony Nintendo-y souls like. Remasters would do great too

I kinda want Nintendo to take up a farming sim/RPG hybrid series

Mostly because that subgenre is one of my new favorites after games like Sakuna and Harvestella. But also it does seem to me at least something Nintendo would fund, and the subgenre hasn't really had a big budget take yet

Mega Man Legends. Nintendo has quite a good history with Capcom and I feel it would be quite a exclusive that people would eat up especially with proper marketing

Tatsunoko Vs Capcom 2

Marvel Ultimate Alliance 4 (or rather, how about just X-men Legends 3, at this point, since the mutants are going to be getting a push in the next few phases?)

That’s a really solid pick for this topic. Loved the Maximo games on PS2.

If really Capcom have 0 interest in to spend money on a remake of Dino Crisis, It can be the perfect pick for Nintendo to have his own exclusive horror game
