It's here at last, the reveal of long awaited Switch 2. In this thread it just happened: Specs, new features, form factor, sneak peak at newest games. Everything is laid bare. - - - Your first Famiboards approved professional reaction and overall reception please?

Some pointers:

  • The way they handled the presentation
  • First impression of the new games
  • Shape of the device
  • Function of the new buttons
  • Oh-My-God the MAGNETS!

It will be fun to see how our reactions will be different after the fact has, in fact, happened!

Too bad about the form factor: very similar to Switch, but obviously too large for tiny raccoon hands. Otherwise it looks slick, and the light grey default joy-con colours work well with the system imo.

As I expected, there will be Mario Kart in the launch year. My bet is it will take that spot 2 months after launch to build continued momentum. The launch line-up will probably be that newly announced Ocarina of Time remake - which looks positively INSANE and I think it has ray traced reflections - and MP4. Quite the "oh you" moment when they teased the new Mario 3D platformer at a rooftop party again lol, perhaps this time around it will be an infinite runner after all :LOL:

Third parties finally showing up is awesome: MH Wilds, FFXVI, and I'm pretty sure that was GTA6, right? But I bet Rockstar will say they can't confirm it coming to the system yet, so we won't be allowed to get hyped 😥

But yeah, overall the screen real estate looks good, and the games look awesome! The January blowout can't come soon enough.
 
I can't believe the presentation was hijacked by evil ninjas. Thankfully, Furukawa did a backflip, snapped the bad guy's neck, and saved the day before revealing the launch price. Also, Year 1 Wave Race, let's go~!

"Wow... That was... Something! Mixed for now, I am glad we had the announcement trailer of the "Super Switch" (come on everyone felt it deep down already) but I feel like they are really trying too hard to push the narrative that this device has a lot of "new" compared to Switch 1. The tech seems great on paper so far but it wasn't neccesary to convince us of the gimmicks (that just weren't really there)

For one, those magnets don't add anything else beyond just stability, they make it out as a very big deal but it is just not. But hey, that's the "gimmick" I guess. I think just wanted a different sound this time to differentiate from the "Click" that the former Switch had. That's smart. I DO love the new jingle.

I am slightly worried about the size of the device though, it might be borderline uncomfortable but I would have to hold it myself to confirm. I can not carry this thing in my pocket anymore.

Slightly dissapointed in the controllers on first sight so far, I had hoped they would make the shape a little more ergonomic but they just scaled it for now and played a bit around with the button layout.

... and why gray AGAIN?! That's the most unappealing color I've ever seen for something new in this time and age, are we back in the 80's? I feel like they are really targeting an older audience this time around with the colored buttons on light gray. This trailer is meant to evoke a lot of nostalgia that's for sure.

I am left feeling a little bit let down by the device so far, the hardware trailer did not hype me on the latest newest tech that I absolutely need in my life but it did convince me of one thing:

The games will be absolutely amazing on this. Wow, Nintendo has come a long way and with this they can finally get rid of the dumb idea that Nintendo devices are underpowered.

No real games yet apparantly but there were some teasers of character sillhouettes... I don't recognise all of the figures in the shadows besides Link, Mario, Luigi, DK, Fox, Tom Nook, Isabelle and Samus. Like who is that third capped character besides luigi?

Seems like we're in for a treat on that department!"

Pretend play, we basically make a post acting like we just saw the release trailer. It is fun because you can later see how much you correctly predicted about how you would act after seeing the trailer.

We'll get an announcement trailer Mid October and it'll show some software, and any interesting USPs it has.

January will be a big presentation with basic specs, release date, feature overview and MORE games than you can shake a stick at. PlayStation bros poke fun at the lack of OLED and ports of now old games running on the system. Others point out that using DLSS is cheating, despite the PlayStation and Xbox both using upscaling in like forever.

Mid March release just before the new financial year.

Mario Kart looks cool, hope they have a new F-Zero eventually though. Would be disappointing if 99 was all we got and the series sits another couple of generations out.

A Mario + DK 3D platformer as the flagship game for the new console is amazing, there's so much potential for integrating the mario-adjacent series. Can't wait to see more of it.

Also while Mariokart looks great, they really didn't need to bring back SNES rainbow road for the third game in a row...
 
Man what an October 9th! I'm suprised we didn't see a single bit of Zelda, but that Mario game rocks! Super excited to see how those new joycons work with that new grip they showed off at 0:17 too, Looks so much more comfortable than the old grip! Third party support could have been better, but I'm glad we're getting Red Dead Redemption 2 and Baldur's Gate 3, that was a little suprising to have em both be in the reveal trailer. Also was that a tease of MarioKart and Animal Crossing at the end there?👀 Man April can't come any sooner, I need it NOW
 
I was relaxing in the old folks' home, just drank a bowl of thin soup and waiting for my sponge bath when my great grandson connected with me via NeuroLink(TM), said the Switch 2 had finally been announced. I searched to the back of my mind, and with great mental effort recalled what a Nintendo Switch actually was, and how once I looked forward to the arrival of its successor. Then I said to myself, screw that, and went back to watching old repeats of Bargain Hunt.
 
The shock was so big that my old heart couldn't take it. At least I died knowing its fucking name. Tell my family I always watch them from up here and to my son... when you celebrate your MK9 victories I'll be right right next to you.

I can not believe Nintendo paid Rockstar to cancel the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of GTAVI and keep it Switch 2 exclusive....Like, where does the industry go from here? This is the craziest thing ever.

The newest Smash game being announced by Sakurai and Suda 51 doing some high level ballroom dancing was unexpected, but welcome.

I can hardly believe it—they finally released the Switch 2... That March, we didn’t get any news, instead, we received a delay notice. Then it was an endless wait. The Switch had already become the king of sales, surpassing all other consoles combined, with all 7 billion people in the world owning their Switch. Nintendo had taken over the world.
