Hey! I'm preparing a few posts for Famiboards Dot Com and wanted to make some GIFs to go along with them, which got me thinking: what resolution should a GIF be in 2023, anyhow? I don't want to make 'em to small! But I don't wanna make 'em too big, either.

Thanks in advance for the advice, GIF fans.

Hard "Depends". What are the gifs gonna be used for? How much detail do you need them to have? If you want to show a game's graphics or an specific scene, you need to make sure it is actually visible there. If it's for fun then you have a bit more leeway. Also, the heavier you make them filesize wise, the more people in limited data plans will hate you.

This is a good distillation of my main concern: I don’t wanna chew through people’s data if it’s limited, BUT the gifs are sort of to showcase cool, highly visual moments, so I want to keep the quality somewhat up
Make em as big as possible
I had definitely considered this haha

Thank you both for your responses. It got me thinking that maybe I could do the GIFs nice and big but spoiler tag them so you can choose if it loads? If it, uh, works that way? 😂 I will experiment!
