Bandai Namco is or was working on a Nintendo Action Game Remaster.
It is now rumoured to be cancelled or put on hold.

Masahiro Sakurai is working on a new Game since 2022.
He also joked a bit about Kid Icarus Uprising being ported to a console.

But he also stated, that it would be difficult to make a sequel or remaster

Thoughts ?

what status? there's nothing to update for a project we don't know exists. Sakurai was just musing about a potential port, rather than hinting at stuff

There’s not really much to add to be honest. I’d like to see it at some point. But then I think the same about a lot of portable games left behind on old hardware.

This was always just a theory, as far as I know there was nothing substantial pointing to this actually being the case. Hopefully that Bandai Namco remaster ends up seeing the light of day after all and we'll know for sure.

That never was a thing. It never was specified what Namco was working on and now it's canned. It was likely to be something they made in first place, such as StarFox Assault.

Kid Icarus Uprising was built specifically for the precision the stylus controls provide. Sakurai devised a difficulty system just because of that. If he wanted analog controls in the game, he easily could have added Circle Pad Pro support.

If there is to be a KI Uprising release on other platforms, it would be drastically different from the 3DS game that you wouldn't call it Uprising at all. It's better to make a full sequel/reimagining at that point.

The Circle Pad Pro requires 5% of the 3DS's CPU power and Uprising already used up all of the processing power available. All the Circle Pad Pro does in Uprising is mirror inputs, so ZL/ZR just mirrors R/L (or the other way around, I forget) for recentering the camera and etc.

As up in the air as it always was.

It's a known fact that Bandai Namco was at some point hiring people to remaster 3D backgrounds for a "3D action game project commissioned by Nintendo", but it's never been known what that project actually was. People just started speculating that it could be a Kid Icarus Uprising remaster.

And similarly, Bloomberg's reported that Bandai-Namco shelved several projects, one of them being a Nintendo-commissioned project, but (if accurate) it's still not clear if that's the same thing as the 3D action game remaster or if it was something else entirely. Every reason to think Bandai-Namco would have multiple ongoing Nintendo-commissioned projects in various stages of development that could have been shelved for any number of reasons.

So, it may or may not have even been in development, and if it was then it may or may not still be in development. Really almost not worth thinking about imo.

At this it was either just a rumor that was incorrect or, as nintendo has been doing for a while now, a fully completed project that nintendo is sitting on for over a year.

I'm leaning towards it having been incorrect speculation.

Skyward Sword was built around motion controls yet it supports a button-only scheme on Switch. Kid Icarus would be perfectly playable with gyro, and this time your hand wouldn't get cramped.

I don't think gyro would work particularly on the ground segments... since you don't aim a camera so much as spin it around and stop it by tapping.

A "new" control scheme, however ... might work
